View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been searching around and found lots of details of how to fix a dual boot situation gone wrong but I have not run across a guide or steps on how to install Windows & FC12 the correct way.I have to reinstall my computer any way for other reasons so I am going to reinstall with either XP or Win7 (leaning towards 7) and Fedora 12. I can dedicate a drive to each OS no problem and I can imagine how I would install each on it's own drive, but not quite sure what to use as a boot manager?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI had the bug for a Boxee system. After looking at a bunch of different small HTPC options, I settled on the Zotac ZBOXHD-ND22-U system. Highlights of the box: Dual-core 1.2 Ghz CULV CPU ION chipset, handles up to 8GB of DDR3 (PC3-8500) 2.5" SATA bay
6xUSB2 ports, front SD slot HDMI port, supporting up to 7.1 audio
After a good bit of research, I opted to install Maverick instead of Lucid, since Maverick includes the required ALSA 1.0.23 release. This isn't an utterly complete cookbook. I'm doing this from memory... Here's what I did, roughly in order:
1. Install Maverick via a USB stick (built with Unetbootin). I selected Maverick x86, so I wouldn't have to muck around with the whole 32-bit flash on amd64 business, particularly in an embedded environment.
2. Removed gdm - we'll be booting directly into Boxee here. aptitude remove gdm, also let it remove the dependencies. Later, I went back and removed extraneous packages, like all of the gnome desktop stuff. Seemed fairly pointless to keep it around.

I followed the FedoraFAQ guide to install the flash player on x86_64 but when I configure it with:mozilla-plugin-config -i -g -vI get these errors:
[root@compaq Download]# mozilla-plugin-config -i -g -v
INFO: /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/npviewer isn't accessible.
INFO: /usr/lib64/nspluginwrapper/npviewer looks ok.

Following ishaqbaig thread about Gnome to KDE in Fedora.I'm thinking of dipping my toe in KDE waters (currently a die hard gnome user since FC5).I was wondering is there a "translation" guide for gnome users coming to KDE in terms of showing comparable apps, configuration guides/tips etc

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a basic apache2 setup running w/ multiple virtual hosts, would like to try SSL (i.e. https).
I've got the IP networking side well and truly sorted but I need guidance on the apache/ssl config side. I have installed mod_ssl.
Does anyone have a good guide for Fedora that's recent? All I can find are ubuntu and old fedora 'core' guides, so not sure how much applies to F12. The best ones I can find so far is
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/fo...er/apache2/SSL
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/ssl/ssl_howto.html
Since I upgraded to 10.04 and ran Computer Janitor, the Xiphos Bible Guide no longer works. The splash screen comes up for a second and then disappears. I've tried removing and re-installing the program to no avail.

when I tried to download a installation DVD of F10 for my new thinkPad T500 laptop. The architecture of the processor should be i686 and I downloaded the DVD image Fedora-10-i386-DVD.iso. I understand i686 has backward compatability with i386. But i have following questoins:
(1) why we don't have an installation for i686?
(2) If I install the i386 package, do I get performance downgrades?
(3) Also, why the live DVD has this file called F10-i686-Live.iso?
(4) Finally, I always get message like "Warning: Cannot convert string "nil2" to type FontStruct
/usr/bin/xterm: cannot load font -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1" when I use X application. What's the problem here? BTW, I used Fedora core 8 before I didnt have this problem.
Do you have any link to a 'Installation guide for Dummies' -in Spanish-??
I want to make some tests, checks, and play for a while whith a DL380 G2 and Linux .
Here at home I have several Ubuntu installations, mine, the kids computers and a couple of laptops. What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.
I'm not if I should download the i386 or the x86 iso. I'm not very familiar with hardware. The processor in the computer I want to install fedora on has an AMD64 athlon processor. My confusion comes from the fact that when I bought this computer it has what I assume is a 32-bit vista installation, and the recovery disc doesn't have the option to choose 64-bit or 32-bit installs like the one for my 64-bit vista machine does. The link for the computer I'm going to try fedora out on is here: [URL]. (I know it's not that great, but it's good for tinkering around with.)

View 14 Replies View RelatedRecent refugee from Ubuntu here. Fedora fan for one month.I have two computers that access the Internet through a router. They are assigned IPs dynamically by the router's DHCP. I need each computer to be able to "see" some shared folder on the other one, with RW permissions to that folder and its content.I want to use Nautilus to access those folders from each computer.
Tried NFS, Samba, gnome-user-share to no avail.
Willing to kill Fedora's firewall forever in order to ease folder sharing. Can some kind and knowledgeable person try a step by step setup guide for this? As an 8-year Linux user I am not afraid of command line interfaces.
After burning the DVD of F11 for AMD64, I boot from it. After some choices, instead of going to read from the DVD it connects to the internet and tries to download packages. After some time it fails to read and goes into a loop for trying to read. If I interrupt this and skip the network section, it reports it can't connect to the internet. Why does it want to connect to the internet anyway when I've booted from DVD ? It didn't do that on x86.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have made a set of ISO CDs for Fedora 11. I put in the first one (disc1 not the Live CS) and boot the system. This is fine. I choose "Install or upgrade an existing system". It is a fresh system not an upgrade. The installation proceeds - but it starts to download everything from the network, not from the CDs. How do I prevent this and force it to load from the CDs?
