Servers :: Need Complete SQUID Setup Guide For Fedora
Jul 14, 2011
I need the complete reference guide to set up my own SQUID transparent proxy Server with Gateway support. I am using Fedora 14. Please help me with LINKS/REFERENCE. I am a learner in Squid.
I have been trying to set up an LDAP server for a development environment as part of an internship for a week now, and I cannot get past this point. I have been following the 10.04 server guide to set up LDAP here: URL...Once I get to the following point in the guide, it just hangs:"As an example of modifying the cn=config tree, add another attribute to the index list using ldapmodify:"I've been working on this for a week and can't understand why this won't work. I am fairly certain that I've followed the guide to a 'T.'Any idea why am I receiving a permission denied error? Is this a permissions issue with one of the config files?
I have a removable USB drive formated with NTFS. I enabled all the samba boolians in the SElinux GUI but it still doesn't seem to work. If i put it on permissive it will work. What more is there that i need to do to get my directories to show up on samba with selinux enabled?
I would like to use my Ubuntu server machine as a proxy so I can browse a little more securely/privately while I am traveling. I connect to a lot of open Wi-FI networks.I have Squid setup on an old laptop running Ubuntu Server 10.10 at home, and the main machine I will be using to connect to the proxy is a computer running Windows Vista.I am able to connect and use the Ubuntu Server machine as a proxy while traveling with the squid config file modified with http access set to 'allow all'.
Obviously this isn't the ideal setting. After lots of reading and Googling I can't figure out how to allow only my Vista laptop to use the proxy.I'm a little lost with the ACL settings required.
I'm a newbie on Ubuntu, I have a problem with squid proxy. I'd like to configure a system, include:
- a server is named ProxyServer that is installed Squid proxy. - three servers, are named FTPServer01, FTPServer02, FTPServer03. each server is installed vsftpd. - Clients are installed Filezilla to up/download resource.
All servers are managed by IP address. When a client request a resource, client connect to ProxyServer, this ProxyServer will switch to one of Ftp servers. I do not know how to configure the squid's config file to setup them.
I've got a basic apache2 setup running w/ multiple virtual hosts, would like to try SSL (i.e. https).
I've got the IP networking side well and truly sorted but I need guidance on the apache/ssl config side. I have installed mod_ssl.
Does anyone have a good guide for Fedora that's recent? All I can find are ubuntu and old fedora 'core' guides, so not sure how much applies to F12. The best ones I can find so far is
Is there any guide available explaining how to setup Chat and Broadcast? It is not very important (I dont use it much), but as ubuntu is now "Social from start" and very user friendly it should be very easy. However I have not been able to set it up no matter what i have done.
we want to complete replace isa 2000 Microsoft by squid proxy server. the role of server is simple as regular proxy server. using rhel5, but when i enter into squid proxy world i found tons of parameters, and stuff to read. and optimization and performance tuning needed.
which is best suitable proxy squid, there is regular, transparent i need to define 2 rules, 1 for office hours internet let say 10 hours, 1 for 24 hours internet, where certain people comes in 10 hours and some in 24 hours group also can some one suggest is there any no GUI control from web broswer or linux machine itself we can define control access list?
I want to check my system general log file by the following command.
PHP Code:
It just show me only these two lines Normally every day at morning I check all system general log files and some times it is too much long that I press space bar to go my prompt.
I had followed this Guide to get proftpd with mysql on a Ubuntu server edition the last one available to download 10.04.1I did everything. phpmyadmin is working I can access it via the browser and create users and groups. When I am trying to enter my server using the ip or the domain name I am getting an instant error.Flash fxp's error log
Code: [R] Connecting to 192.168.25.117 -> IP=192.168.25.117 PORT=21 (attempt # 2) [R] Connected to 192.168.25.117
So I was wondering if being relatively new to Ubuntu, and having no experience at all with servers, I would be able to set up a server (one server and a couple of computers), to use in a hostel. I took a good look at the Ubuntu Documentation Section:URl..and most of the things I don't even know what they are for (MySQU, Samba, Apache2).
Basically I need to have a couple of computers with internet access, allowing me to control their use, file sharing to a main HD in the server, also I would like to use the server computer as my personal desktop (office, internet, etc.) and that's about it..The question is, if I were to follow that guide, do you think I can set it up?Also, do you know a guide in which the hardware components are mentioned? Because I googled and the amount of trash coming out, mostly outdated, is extremely annoying.
I am running fedora 10 and webmin squid proxy server, after power failure the squid fails to start. i have tried to start it from command line but failed
I have squid running on F12 fully updated. Pretty much stock config except bigger cache size.
Over time it seems to start lagging and occupying more memory. Currently using ~400Mb after a couple of months. I'm sure its causing some lag / refreshes because if I turn if off and go direct to internet the same site I had to hit refresh on, loads instantly.
Going through the logs in /var/log/squid I don't see anything suspicious with the untrained eye, whats a better way of debugging it to see where/why the delays are happening? Its a single user setup (for fun really lol) so theres a lot of misses in access.log. cache.log just has a handful of bad img headers which does not line up with lagging websites.code...
I have 4 servers running squid/3.1.1 proxy server. Since the latest version I can no longer FTP. I have posted this problem in multiple places but have received almost no response. I've found several other post to this problem throughout the Internet which have also gone unanswered. So, once again, I thought I'd give it a try. As I said "I have 4 servers running the newest version of Squid". When I try to access an ftp, any ftp, I receive an error (check attached image). This was never a problem until just recently. Squid should work perfectly find with ftp, it is not a strictly http proxy.
I turned my firewall off just to make sure, still had the same issue. If I jump directly on the server itself with no proxy settings set in the browser it will work fine. As soon as I set the browser setting to access the Squid software I get the same error. I've included my squid config (which is unchanged from the default settings), maybe somebody better versed than myself can point out an obvious flaw. Everything else seem to work just fine, it's only FTP that's a problem.
I have a reverse proxy set up with squid. I'm going to try and explain what it's doing and I apologize for it being confusing, I'll do the best I can to describe my problem. First, it's for our phone system. We run a ShoreTel Voip system. The owner has decided he wants me to setup MCM (Mobile Call Manager), which from what I can see is an under developed, and almost impossible to get help with Shoretel software. But he's convinced he needs it for his Iphone. It's supposed to, in a nutshell, turn his Iphone into his work phone with all the advantages and doodads that come with it. Apparently, "they have an app for that". On the server side, I need to setup a reverse proxy back into the network on our phone server. Simple enough, I did this with squid. I used the following lines:
always_direct allow all It most definitely is allowing traffic back to the phone server, the problem is, it hands out my internal server address to the outside client. So for instance, if I connect to the outside routable address with my phone, it will immediately change the url to http://172.17.137.7 which is the inside nat address of my phone server. Which of course doesn't work, since I couldn't browse to that address from the outside. It does however work from the inside of the network, obviously because 172.17.137.7 is accessible from the inside.
I want to configure squid server with SSL so that users send clear text username/password and also data in encrypted mode. i googled but all of the configuration is for reverse proxy not requests from users to proxy server in LAN for example.
I currently have a personal use server setup in my home and would like to be able to send emails from my domain name.
At&t blocks the standard ports used so some form of forwarding would have to be used. I've looked at other guides and followed them to the key but it appears I'm always missing something.
So my question here is could anyone write a detailed guide from start to finish on how to install a postfix server behind an at&t connection complete with MX record and firewall configuration information?
I am working in a office where only one internet connection available. I have configured 5 other client machines to use internet through squid proxy server. Now I want to restrict the total data usage/transfer (upload+download) to say 1 GB during a calender month. How can I achieve this setting.
I have configured router(192.168.1.2) to serve only one machine with IP - '192.168.1.6' and set up SQUID proxy on '192.168.1.6'. I have defined some rules(ACL) regarding connections to internet on SQUID proxy.
I changed the Gateway of rest of machine (192.168.1.60 - 192.168.1.69) from '192.168.1.2' to '192.168.1.6'.
The policies which I defined in SQUID is working properly but 'Linux Evolution mail' client is not fetching mails.
Is I have to do any other settings on 'Linux System' or 'Evolution mail client'.
I am running Fedora 8. Each time I run a YUM command, I get the message that there are unfinished transactions, and to run yum-complete-transaction. Upon running yum-complete-transaction, it fails with this error. How can I remove this uncompleted transaction so I can finish the last one?
setting up a web server and somehow searched the net for the best secured and optimized combination of packages. To focus on an example, let say you wanted to put up a website that's most likely similar to myspace / friendster / facebook or other related social network with high traffic. It would be nice to have a step-by-step guide on what are the requirements and best combination of packages to use. I'm sure this would be of best interest to everyone specially those who are just starting up. As we are going to focus on a webserver to host our own website lets assume we have the initial hardware/software resources for our server such as
A Core2 Dou 2.33Ghz CPU with 4Gb memory, 80Gb HD Ubuntu 10.10 Server 64bit. HardwareWhat would be the advisable internet connection speed that can accommodate the type of website that we're putting up. (please consider that we are going to host this at our own home)I pressume the hardware mentioned above is more than enough but just incase, Do we need more hardware resources than the one mentioned? (considering the huge amount of photos that will be uploaded)Software What would be the best choice combination of packages for the following ?Http Server (ie. nginx, apache and etc)
Email Server (ie. postfix, courier and etc) Email Client (ie. roundcube, squirell mail etc) Database Server (ie. mysql, postresql and etc)
I use web server apache use php fastcgi (Centos 5.2, apache 2.2.9 , php 5.2.5 and fcgi-2.2.4 ). I receive error : "The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. contact the server administrator, no-reply@zz.vn and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. to configure squid as a non-transparent proxy? I understand https cannot be filtered using squid as a transparent proxy. So i need to find out how to configure squid for https filtering.
I need to setup a squid 3 proxy with https bumping. Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with squid and https in general.
I already perfomed the following steps:
1.) compile from source
Code: Select all./configure --with-openssl --enable-ssl-crtd make make install
2.) configuration (http) I used this guide: [URL]
3.) configuration (https) [URL]
The server is now working for http and https, but is the server secure, too? Is the default config already secure or do I need to configure additional security features? (e.g. things like cert validation, cert pinning, [dont know what's importend], ...)
I have set up squid3 and dhcp server on my Ubuntu 10.04 box with IP address of 192.168.0.160. Single network card.Squid runs on port 3148. Everything works fine for the users provided that I set up the proxy details manually on each client pc.I want to set up the Squid to run as a transparent proxy and after reading around I have done the following. In the Squid3 conf file I have entered http_port 3148 transparent.Dropping to Root ( sudo -i )However the transparent proxy does not work and if I enter iptables -L I can see that the rule above has not been retained. The default rules in iptables only show up.
My current setup is a slack based distro with Squid 3.0 running in transparent mode with WCCP. Web filtering and AV scanning works great but we need to go a step further and introduce port filtering into the setup. I can easily accomplish this with iptable entries but only if I point to the proxy directly; the goal is to do this completely by interception. So far I've had no luck doing this with iptable entries or with squid ACL's and I am wondering if there's something that I am missing or just not doing correctly. So far during testing I've just been testing with common IM chat ports such as MSN and Yahoo. I am currently trying to setup a test lab with squid and 2 NICs with one NIC connected directly to the internet but this is not a route I would like to go.
Been trying to setup SSH on the Linux box for a long time and still no success.
AIM: To be able to SSH from the internet.
I CAN ssh locally. I CAN ssh on the LAN to the Linux box. I have even changed distro from Ubuntu to Fedora.
Everytime I try to SSH from the internet I get connection timed out.... I have setup port forwarding correctly on my Netgear router, when a SSH request hits the router I can see it in the logs. I have port forward setup for FTP service to my windows 2003 box which all works fine, so port forward works and I know what im doing regards that.
"iptables -L" shows no policies in place, the GUI firewall is DISABLED.
Even tried service iptables stop
I have made no changes to sshd_config, its set to standard port 22. At this moment in time I dont care about firewalls/security just need to get this working as a inbound request comming in from the internet.
