I have a touchscreen panel pc that boots a version of Debian. I have very little experience with Linux in general. I need to quickly get up to speed with this operating system and Debian in general. The panel pc uses an ARM 9 processor, which I need to program to control a lighting system. I have a good back ground in C programming and embedded control. send me a link to an ISO file of Debian that I can burn and load on my main work pc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not if I should download the i386 or the x86 iso. I'm not very familiar with hardware. The processor in the computer I want to install fedora on has an AMD64 athlon processor. My confusion comes from the fact that when I bought this computer it has what I assume is a 32-bit vista installation, and the recovery disc doesn't have the option to choose 64-bit or 32-bit installs like the one for my 64-bit vista machine does. The link for the computer I'm going to try fedora out on is here: [URL]. (I know it's not that great, but it's good for tinkering around with.)

If I could figure out how to download the kernel source for ubuntu 9.04 then I can build the devices into the kernel and get them working.
Where can I find the source for Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic.
Also, there are names for the Ubuntu. How to figure out the name of my OS?
Note, I tried to install Ubuntu 10 but the screen was blank after I booted off the installation CD.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to up2date an RHEL4 ES (i386/i686, 32-bit) system. It always fails with:
Quote:
The thing is, when I look in the package lists, that precise version of nagios (nagios-0-2.12-9.el4.i386.hdr) is out-of-date. The version actually in the repositories (I checked several mirrors) is nagios-0-2.12-10.el4.i386.hdr.
I tried clearing the up2date/yum caches - they just rebuilt and came back to the same error.
What can I check to see what may be outdated, or otherwise reconcile this mismatch in some dependency as compared to the actual package version available?
This is preventing me from up2date'ing any package at all on the server, even those with no relation whatsoever to nagios.
Anyone know what version of spam assassin is newer 3.3.1-3 or 3.3.1-52 I would assume 52 is newer but I don't know if once it reaches 99 it going to 2 Example 3.3.1-99 ---- 3.3.1-2 -----3.3.1-21 and so on. I could be completely off but can anyone just clarify if 3.3.1-3 is newer or older than 3.3.1.52
(On a side note does anyone know the difference between spamassassin-3.3.1-3.el5.rfx.i386.rpm and spamassassin-3.3.1-3.el5.rf.i386.rpm?? What does the X mean?) I looked at the release date of .52 and it seems to be in march 2010 whereas .1-3 seems to be in november. oes that seem correct? Does anyone have a direct download to spamassassin-3.3.1-3el5.rf.i386.rpm???
installed the fedora 12, but dont know how to use the source dvd to install the source package.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a computer with internet access with amd64 architecture running Debian stable (Lenny). I have another computer with NO internet access with i386 architecture running Debian stable (Lenny).I want to download some packages for the i386 computer using the amd64 computer. So far, the only way I can see to do this is to use dpkg-architecture to temporarily change to i386 on the internet computer, run aptitude with the download-only option to retrieve the packages I need with all suitable dependencies, then switch the internet computer back over to amd64.
I can't imagine I'm the only person who ever needed to do this, and yet I've had no luck finding any advice. The method I described seems rather awkward - is there a more elegant solution?
I apologize to the membership, I realize now the absurdity of this subject. Having now studied the online repository search functions closer, I see it appears packages are automatically retrieved with all necessary dependencies. As such, it is not necessary to use apt and its various functions to do the job.
I have done a new install of Fedora 14 but the RTL8191 wirless card is not being recognised. Realtek have provided the driver source but the make operation is failing because (I think) Fedora 14 isn't provided with the kernel source to enable it to complete successfully.
Basically (in easy to understand steps): how do I download correctly the Kernel source to enable the driver make operation to proceed?
I'm trying to upgrade from 8.04 to 9.10 via 8.10 etc. When I run update manager, I get this:
W:Failed to fetch [URL] Unable to find expected entry universal/binary-i386/Packages in Meta-index file (malformed Release file?), E:Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
and then it closes. I've unselected all the third party packages and tried various servers, but no difference. I can wget the file, but when I look at it I see entries for "universe/binary-i386/Release", but nothing for "universal" .
Seven times I was downloading the fedora11 disc1 i386 iso and the sha256 checksum was bad. When I try ftp.belnet.be mirror I can get the correct checksum. I understand the copy process between mirrors probably was errors. Becarefull friends. This bad iso aborts the installation process.

I am trying a test net installation in VirtualBox, so far so good.
However, I would rather have a more complete installation on hand and I'm looking at the full install cd's --there are 6 of them.

Are all 6 required for a minimal install, or could I get by with one (or two, etc)? For example, with debian installation cds you can use just the first one -- the rest are just a complete set of packages for everything +kitchen sink.
I have VISTA home installed in my HP DV5 laptop and I have installed MS Virtual PC. When I try to install Fedora 11 i386 get stop at "SMP alternatives: switching to UP code" and won't proceed. But I installed Fedora 11 i386 in my desktop using same steps it work fine.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm currently using FC 9 - 2.6.27 x86_64. (In my Hp - nx6320 laptop with- Intel centrino Duo processor). I have downloaded linux-2.6.30.2. How do I install this with i386/i686 configuration set. All that I want is a 32 bit - linux-2.6.30, because NCTUns 5.0 works only with the 32-bit kernel. I have tried following:
Code:
make ARCH=i386 menuconfig
After this, I see the architecture set to "X86_32 = Y" in the .config file. But later, after I run
Code:
make bzImage
The configuration restarts asking to select Y/N for various packages and modules. I have no much idea on what to select and what not to, in order to retain X86_32 set. I end up with the new .config file with contents as below after the make bzImage command.
Code:
#X86_32 is not set
X86_64 = y
Again it is going to be built as a X86_64 bit kernel.
How to install the kernel as 32-bit along with the existing FC-9 64 bit kernel.
I presently have Fedora 12 running on a Dell Optiplex with a Pentium 4 CPU. I want to buy a new computer, probably from Dell, I don't completely understand the options I have available for which Fedora 13 will run.I more or less understand what 64 bit means since I also have an HP with an AMD 64 bit processor. But are there other options which will allow me to exceed the i386 memory limit? How about dual processors?
I used to understand CPU architecture pretty well, but i've lost track of more recent developments. Can anyone recommend a primer of CPU types, including assoicated memory limits? Similarly, I would like to be sure that Fedora 13 will run on whatever machine I decide to get. So a list of available processors, which are equivalent to which, and which Fedora 13 has been tested on,
Is there a live booter iso of Fedora 14 for i386 architecture?
