I am running RedHat 9.0 on a VMware on Window XP, I have bridged the network card eth0 such that I can ping the host machine 192.168.45.67 and the Windows XP machines on my LAN.
I managed to set up the samba server on this Redhat 9.0, And I can see the netbios name on my WindowXP: Rhl machines. Now I want to reach the Windows machines vi sambaclient but I get an Ip address that is not on my network -192.168.24.1.I did not set this IP address.
This is the message I get when I run smbclient so that I can reach windows machine when I am on Redhat:
# smbclient //machine name/name of user on windows machine added interface ip=192.168.45.90 bcast=192.168.45.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Got a positive name query response from 192.168.45.21 (192.168.24.1 192.168.249.1 192.168.45.21 error connecting to 192.168.24.1:139 (Network unreachable) Error connecting to 192.168.24.1 (Network is unreachable) Connection to machine name failed #
My question is Where does 192.168.24.1 IP address come from. Where must I look in order to remove it ( in Linux or Windowx Xp.
I followed a tutorial to install XP across my entire HDD. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 "Alongside another OS". Ubuntu loads fine, but when trying to load XP, the boot screen shows up, but then the computer restarts and returns to the GRUB menu.
I saw some threads on this site and tried to type: sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
In the terminal. It returned a blank text document so I'm not sure if that information was outdated. I then typed: sudo fdisk -l
And got this:
Not sure what any of this means, but I sure hope someone else does. I would say forget XP, but it's hard to let go of some of the games and software I use. I appreciate any responses, thank you.
I tried to format the table as it appeared, but the forum corrected the extra spaces.
when i try to play a video, from internet it is showing the message 'Either javascript turned off or download and install latest adobe flash player'. But eventhough I downloaded and installed adobe flash player I am unable to play any video and still it is giving the above message. what is the reason?
I was playing with my netbook and trying to hackintosh it only to realise mic, webcam and network don't work. So I restored the entire disk ubuntu 9.10 from a Ghost image I had made prior. But it doesn't boot, it only shows the word GRUB on top left corner.
At the GNU GRUB boot menu, I am seeing Window's 7 listed, but am unable to boot it. I've viewed its boot setting which appears correct (/dev/sda1/ hd 0,1). I tried using the Ubuntu 10.4 LTR install disk to correct grub, but got stuck at the point where it asks for doing the manual partition.
Bad[DOG]/H.T. Ken Here are some supporting details: Running GNU GRUB ver 1.98-1ubuntu10

I have a red hat linux 8.0 server and I want to upgrade mysql 3.23.58 to 4.0, but my rpm command shows this error "segmentation fault" at the end of the rpm -Uvh mysql-server-version command, is there another way to upgrade it?
I have just installed Lucid Lynx as after a live run of it I thought it was about time to upgrade. Everything ran smoothly in the live version so I backed up my files and installed it. When I went to boot I get this - Grub loading, please wait ... Error 2
The strange thing is it seems to be specific to the computer. I have an older, lower spaced desktop, computer that I tried the hard drive in and it worked fine. Problem is its too low spaced for what I want so it seems the install went ok but its something with the computer? How I would be able to boot into the install?
I want to create redhat cluster on(vmware) OS Redhat Enterprise Server 5.5 Install Luci on node1 Install ricci on node2 Install ricci on node3
All the computer name records in all system host file. When I try to create new cluster( luci_install init) then showing error... Status messages: * Host stationx.example.com is already authenticated * Host stationy.example.com is already authenticated [dismiss]
The following errors occurred: * Unable to create the cluster Luci database objects ***No any cluster.conf file created on any node I have reinstall the node, but getting same error.
A failed upgrade, from disk images, of Fedora 10 to 11 resulted in no GRUB bootloader main menu appearing on bootup (no WIN, no LINUX choices from which to boot). I am booted directly into the GRUB command shell...so, no WIN, no LINUX, nothing. And my understanding of GRUB shell commands is very low.I have 2 hard disks, WIN on the first, LINUX on the second. I believe GRUB Bootloader is on the first disk.Sadly, I have no external install media. An old grub.conf hardcopy indicates that root =/dev/sdb2, root (hd1,0), kernel /vmlinuz....olderversion...(relative to /boot),initrd /initrd...olderversion... (relative to boot). and WINDOWS on (hd0,1), with chainloader +1
I need to somehow get past this grub shell, and re-install/re-instate the grub bootloader, so it can boot normally. What grub command(s) must I use? I've played around with the commands, but with no success.I worry that if I can't resolve this, the whole machine may be useless.
I'm currently trying to get to the root of an problem on startup; unfortunatly when booting after the first couple of messages when booting without quiet and with nosplash in the grub menu I still end up with the nice blue background and the slowly filling bubble... I'd like to go back to the old, boring, messy, but much loved and now much missed (least by me) text boot screen where I can see wtf my system is doing and where its hanging during the boot process.
(I know the cause of the hang now but still want to go back to the old fashioned noisy boot environment - not a fan of the windows style silent boot... I like to know what's going on and that my PC hasn't decided to join the French and go on strike, though wouldn't blame my poor netbook if it has, hammering the bleeper doing random number analysis - not something an atom 270 is designed for)
I had Windows XP working. I then put in a new hard disk and installed Redhat 5 on it. rom then i could only boot into Redhat. Further, everyting is very slow. Anothe rproblem is that Redhat does not see my netwrok so I cannot get onto the Internet. I need to have the choice of booting into XP or Redhat.
Just delete a linux partition and now when i boot a message appears and says error: unknown filesystem grub rescue >
I have search on the net for this problem and i have understand it a little. But my situation is a bit different and because i don't want to format my hard disc i wanna try to fix it. So before a couple months i download ubuntu 9.10 and i installed it a month later. But my computer used to crash all the time and i couldnt use it. So i download the latest ubuntu 10.4 and install it while having windows xp and the old ubuntu 9.10(so i had windows xp, ubuntu 9.10 and ubuntu 10.4 partitions). Now i tried to delete the partition of ubuntu 9.10 from disc utility. so i have the message i wrote above when i boot. I dont wanna delete my windows xp and ubuntu 10.4. what should i do to stop this message from appearing.

What I need is a boot cd or perferably Grub installed on a 256MB Thumb drive with the options to load the installed system from sda5.

I am configure one sftp server(openssh) in my linux server. Its working fine. but when i try to connect its shows all folders like root, boot. but i need particular folder only. how to do this. I am using centos5.2
I'm currently setting up a dell server with hardware raid 1 on sas 6r. i got 4 sas installed on the server and configured to raid 1 as stated below, array 1: slot 0 & 1
array 2: slot 2 & 3
during the installation, the installer detect the array 2 as sda and array 1 as sdb.. so i proceed with installation on array 2. after completed the installation, the first reboot lead me to a 'grub-rescue" prompt. by following the guide at url Mode, i've noticed that the boot folder has changed to (hd1,1), which i believe it has changed to sdb1. default root device shows that prefix=(hd0,1)/grub.
Any time I watch a screencast dealing with notifications, there are always multiple of them on the screen. But when I have a program that uses them it always just allows one at a time.
