General :: Got Error Message When Tried To Create LV For /boot?
Jul 28, 2011
While installing linux, i got error message when i tried to create LV for /boot... i checked with my friends n they told me that /boot should be a standard partition... why is that, i asked them but they had no good explanation for it... could someone please explain me why do we create standard partition for /boot, why can't i use LV??? also i heard that its good practice to create separate partitions (LV or standard) for /, /home, swap & other major directories instead of 1 partition for all these.
I am quite new to Linux, so bear with me if I ask silly questions. For homework (and fun) purposes I needed to create a bootable USB of Fedora12. Which I did, successfully I might add However, when I rebooted the computer, I got this puzzling error message code...
I have downloaded Ubuntu from a CD and burned it using Infrarecorder. When I tried to boot my netbook(Samsung N 140 with Win XP OS preloaded), it gives error message .i have tried the process several times and spent lot of time but to no avail.
When I use evolution to encrypt an email I get the following error
Code: could not create message Because "gpg: writing to `-' gpg: DSA key AC806A0E requires a 256 bit or larger hash gpg: signing failed: General error ", you may need to select different mail options.

I download a few times and burned a few CD's but after I select install on hard disc or use the livecd the computer will hung up and then I have a message saying boot error, I download the iso image from 2 different sources but still not working. I'm installing on a Dell 500 with 256Mgs of memory (I have Ubuntu installed but its too slow).
when attempting to boot ubuntu, an error message flashed, and my computer restarted. This happens every time I choose "Ubuntu" on the loader. The error flashes to quick to read, but I think the first line is something like
Code: Try: error
how I can slow down the error message, or, even better, fix it?
I keep getting this error message pop-up on rare occasions when I boot into Ubuntu 10.10. I don't know what it means or what it's for. I tend to hit "Don't delete" and then restart the computer. It only really crops up once every 30 or so boots of Ubuntu, or if I've done a lot of updates through the update manager. Oh yes, whenever this message appears, the Rubbish Bin vanishes from the bottom right. Everything tends to be fine after the restart.
A couple of months ago I bought a new Dell laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed. Rather than strip the hard drive and go with Ubuntu exclusively, I left W7 on and set up Ubuntu 10.04 as a dual boot installation. All was well for a month or more and now suddenly W7 won't boot. The Windows error message I get is The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible I've purged and reinstalled Grub2 several times with no luck. Also tried Windows fixmbr which allowed W7 to boot but made Ubuntu inaccessible. Below is the output of the boot_info_script.
I have just installed Lucid Lynx as after a live run of it I thought it was about time to upgrade. Everything ran smoothly in the live version so I backed up my files and installed it. When I went to boot I get this - Grub loading, please wait ... Error 2
The strange thing is it seems to be specific to the computer. I have an older, lower spaced desktop, computer that I tried the hard drive in and it worked fine. Problem is its too low spaced for what I want so it seems the install went ok but its something with the computer? How I would be able to boot into the install?

I tried out two things, both of which didn't work and the message still appears every time I try to use wine
1st: yum install mono-core.i686 It is the Mono CIL runtime, suitable for running .NET code. 2nd: downloading mono windows version from the original website but still couldn't install it because it is an .exe file

I am migrating an application from HP-UX to Redhat Linux and I have some files of scripts. In one of the script files I have the line /pylive/smartPAY/spserver/scripts/sp.con which is the correct path and file name for an existing file. However I get the message "No such File or Directory/pylive/smartPAY/spserver/scripts/sp.con" The script worked fine in HP-UX, why not in Redhat Linux?
Our websever, Linux Debian with mysql, apache2, php 5 went down this saturday. Now this monday morning i must find out why this happened. I am looking for the the correct log files. We know that the server was available by using ping so it is (was) an application failure. We know that the our apache support team had changed the php to improve performance to apc.shm_size=192M (a couple a weeks ago) because couple a weeks ago we got a "Unable to allocate memory for pool" error message. Our server is running on a Vmware Server version 3 as virtual machine with sufficient CPU and RAM resources. Where and which log files must be checked to avoid future download times (it is our Company web page!!!!)
I am using lucid. it works fine for some day & suddenly freezes .then on rebooting it shows "read error" . if tried to boot from live cd it just stuck on blinking cursor. but if i removed "battery cell" from motherboard & then rebooted after some time sometime I can boot again. Is this due to wrong bios configuration or it is related to dependency or broken packages or something else. due to same error I have 3 reinstallation in this week . I am using lucid for last 10 months without any problem but last months grub rescue error changed things dramatically. on boot it shows " S.M.R.T. Ultra D.M.A. mode capable but disabled "
These days, I tried to compile my own kernel. Now, it seems work. However, when the kernel is booting, I always get the error message like below: acpiphp_ibm: ibm_acpiphp_init: acpi_walk_namespace failed It looks that something is wrong with my acpi subsystem's configuration. But no matter How I reconfig it, this message still occurs. My distribution is UBUNTU 10.04 LTS original kernel with the distribution is 2.6.32 My own kernel is 2.6.35
