The mouse after few seconds of inactivity switches off and I have to click to bring it working again. The keyboard is set to CZ, but always after start automatically switched on ENG, I have to go to Yast and open keyboard setup and close even if the CZ is selected to force the CZ layout.

Jan 11, 2011I've got a problem with input devices not being available under X.
I've installed F13 with 'minimal' type, i.e. no desktop environment.
After a lot of struggle, I managed to install quite a few packages (after configuring network!) and the Nvidia (proprietary) driver, disabling the nouveau driver.
I got to mention that nvidia installer offered me to create a xorg.conf on its own with its drivers configured for X. But the thing is if I type X or Xorg the screen turns black meaning that X is running but I don't see anything. Looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I see this message:
AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd' or 'mouse' will be disabled.
Then, later on, i installed gnome thinking it'll take care of these input devices but the same happens in the gnome login screen too. Both Keyboard and mouse are not working.
I've tried adding the Option "AllowEmptyInput" "off" or Option "AllowEmptyInput" "false" in my xorg.conf under both the input devices section and also the server layout section, but all in vain.
I'm sure I'm missing some setting or something. I've also looked at a few bugs logged in the RedHat bug DB but their resolution of setting the AllowEmptyInput to false doesn't work in my case.

Jun 11, 2009I'm having an issue installing Fedora 11. The install goes fine, but after restarting (when I get to the initial configuration screen) my keyboard and mouse don't work. I can boot into the Live CD without issue. My boot.log file is below:

Dec 22, 2009Picked up a Linkskey KVM (LKU-UA02) from my brother for free, thought I'd put it to use. Works fine but after switching between each machine once, the keyboard/mouse does not work. Tried unplugging the device(s) and the KVM itself from each machine but no luck.Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to use the KVM (right now I have to use VNC to get a similar effect).

Nov 10, 2009It's two days now I'm in deep troubles after my last "yum update". The system boots as usual, the graphical login pops up the normal way but no input is handled by either the internal keyboard (the system is a laptop), the mouse pad, the external USB mouse and keyboard.
The hardware itself seems to be working as I can pop up the BIOS menus and even edit the GRUB booting line. But, after GRUB there's no possible input. I've tried to boot the system with the Fedora 11 DVD, rescue menu and then chroot. This in order to run a "yum update" in the hope that the problem was in some broken update. No chance: there's no update.
My questions are:
1. Is there a way to boot Fedora withou any graphical interface from GRUB (or anything else to skip the KDE)?
2. Is there a way to have the (cabled) network activated at boot *before* the graphical login?
3. What the he** is happening to my otherwise pefectly working laptop?

Aug 22, 2009I installed Fedora 11 on an external usb HDD (StoreJet trascend) connected to my Acer AspireOne (110 L), and it has been working marvelous for over a month. Today, something really strange happened: After I choose the booting media (StoreJet trascend) Fedora 11 freezes on the loggin screen: Both, keyboard and mouse, stop working. I have no idea what services are shoot down or not recognized since the start screen starts with the blue and fedora logo one.

Fedora X86/64bit :: STARTX - Keyboard And Mouse Won't Respond F11 New Install
Jun 15, 2009I'm having trouble installing F11 x86_64, and I'm sure it is something to do with the video card.X will not even start if I have both nvidia quadro FX1700's installed. If I take one out, I can install F11, but it always 'hangs' when it starts X (which is to say, both the keyboard and mouse are locked - until I press the power button, but then it shuts down anyway).I've fiddled inittab so it starts in runlevel 3 so I can at least get in and tinker. There is no xorg.conf in /etc/X11, so I assume the system is building it's own and not quite getting it right (guess work based on other threads with similar symptoms).
I can connect to the system from another Linux machine via ssh, and I can ftp to it. I tried copying the xorg.conf from the other machine, but while it changed the screen resolution (ergo, it had some effect), it still went nuts. Starting X remotely via ssh allowed me to trap the messages, which indicate the lack of HAL has something to do with the problem.service --status-all reports hald stopped; I'm assuming this should not be the case. I've used yum to reinstall hal, but that made no difference. Nor did an update - it was already at the most recent level.F11 was installed from a DVD downloaded vai a bittorrent; the disk checked out ok.
My knowledge is limited, and I don't know what should be in xorg.conf for my machine, although I could type it in from scratch or ftp it across from here. It was 'okay' under F10, happily tolerating both video cards. But it seems to be sulking under F11. In case it matters, I'm doing everything as root; since firstboot starts X, I can't use that to create another userid.
- nomodeset, xdriver=vesa, selinux=0, remove rhgb as boot parameters - all to no avail (although these changes seem to be ignored for the most part anyway);
- start the HAL daemon manually (mine failed to start, as others have reported). It didn't like that! (the output is available, but is enormous)
- startx -configure - simply failed;
- dirconf didn't work;
- I've tried swearing at it during start-up, which turned out to be no more or less successful than anything else, but it was fun.
Intel Q6600 64 bit. Twin nvidia Quadro FX1700 cards (one removed for the time being) driving two 1920x1200 monitors each. Please let me know if there is any other relevant information I can supply.

Sep 21, 2009recently i tried to install for the first time and everything booted up fine but when i got to the post install configuration my mouse and keyboard don't work! after that one time whenever i try to load linux it just sits at the boot screen where the colored bar goes left to right and has fedora text in the bottom right corner. i don't know if this matters or not but i'm dual booting with windows XP also i tried using a live cd of fedora 11 it always boots up to the login however just like above i can't use my mouse or keyboard for that one either.

Dec 21, 2009so, last night i checked my e-mail, jumped on facebook for a minute and went to bed. i got up this morning and my computer seemed frozen; no mouse/keyboard, no network visibility.....nothing. the screen was just frozen. tried too ssh into it to reboot, but the network wasn't up on it. i had to hard reboot. NOW, it just reboots forever....and ever....and ever. i have a WinXP partition on there along with my F12 and that wont boot either. selecting a previous kernel does nothing either. it wont even boot off the F12 install DVD. just keeps rebooting. I've never had this happen to me. so, it seems like a hardware thing to me, but i dont know if its my mobo or the drive. i suspect a mobo issue as the drive still spins up and gets me to the grub menu.

Apr 8, 2010Got myself in a bit of a squeeze here. I was messing around with the Xorg install on my Fedora 12 system. I ended up reinstalling it. Now my mouse and keyboard work fine in single user mode / terminal. But if I try and boot to X they dont work at the login screen. HAL and udev are booting. Ive done a udevadm monitor test in single user mode and its seeing the devices connect and disconnect. Ive also tried both USB and PS2 devices. Same issue. Ive tried playing with xorg.conf and generating it with Xorg -configure :1 I dont know to use to fix it. After banging my head against the wall for 20+ hours I decided it was time to ask for help. m just Lynxing around the web at the moment =X

Jun 17, 2010I'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.
Fedora Installation :: 11 Live CD Won't Detect Keyboard Or Mouse And Speakers During Boot
Sep 12, 2009I am running Vista on my C: drive and I just got Fedora 11. I planned to dual boot Vista and fedora 11. I Downloaded the Live CD from the site (680 +- MB) and burned the files IN the .iso file to an empty DVD and CD. Shrank my D: drive and now have about 27 GiB wort of unpartitioned space. I booted from the Live CD. everything went OK until i chose Boot from the Boot Menu that came up. First it took me to a screen with the following message:
ACPI: expecting a [reference] package element found type 5. and then in went on to boot normally. Then when it reached the user login screen, I found that my mouse and keyboard were'nt responding and that there was no lights on any of the keys. I checked the USB cables and did a hard shutdown and booted from the Live CD again, but the problem persists.

Jan 23, 2011Today my keyboard and or mouse repeatedly stop responding some minutes after boot. Currently the mouse stops responding after a few seconds of movement immediately after boot. Yesterday I used the machine most of the day, yet this issue didn't arise. Today I used it for a few hours before the issue developed. I did a full system update from the fresh install yesterday night. It's therefore possible that this issue has arisen as a result of the update, and that today the onset was delayed for some reason.
Earlier today I had the same problem with the keyboard. I replaced the batteries thinking that this was the cause. Now it looks like both keyboard and mouse are affected by the same problem. When the mouse stops functioning and the keyboard remains active, I unplug the mouse and replug it in, but it still does not respond, and only the unplug, and not the replug, are detected and logged in dmesg. I noticed ever since I installed Fedora yesterday that plugging in new usb devices after boot did not result in them being recognised, and that if I unplugged a mouse or keyboard and plugged them in again they would not work (requiring a hard reset). Currently the machine isn't usable as I cannot use the mouse for more than a few seconds. I haven't tried a PS2 connection, and currently I have keyboard access.

I haven't tried PS2. My keyboard and mouse appear to be working again (25 mins and still responsive).I unplugged all USB devices except for the keyboard, mouse, and wifi dongle. This appears to have solved the problem. Other devices that were plugged in were a USB to SATA external HDD caddy (powered off), and a serial USB connection to a Sheeva Plug computer (mini server). how I can use all my USB ports in future without this issue arising?

May 29, 2011Have just upgraded (14-->15) using the dvd option; installed the nvidia driver (I think) and am able to startx and get to the Gnome 3 desktop (Wallpaper and top "task" bar look correct)..But, the mouse and keyboard have absolutely no affect. No matter what I click on, or what keyboard combination I use, nothing happens..(Have spent the last 3 hours researching it; and just seem to be getting nowhere.. Dec 2, 2009If I remain 'connected' (with the KVM) to the linux machine the gnome screen saver cuts in and the system remains 'as is' until 'woken up' with the mouse or keyboard. However, if I switch to another machine using the KVM, within a short time (maybe even minute or two) the linux machine goes dead. Now it has not crashed, as I can log in from a remote machine and do anything I need from a terminal, but the machine seems not to respond. I can't even use ctrl-alt-fn to switch to a console screen.
I initially tried entering telinit 3 from a remote machine but it made no apparent difference. However, if after telinit 3 I then killed the Xorg process and later issued a telinit 5 the X server restarted, but with a curious black 'notch' at the top of the screen. I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS graphics card. I am now adding the backtrace from Xorg.0.log. It seems that when the KVM switches to another machine for more than a very short time the X server crashes.

Jul 5, 2011Initially it was working fine after fedora 15 install.However recently it simply stops responding after a period of time.After reboot, sometimes it does repair itself but again stops working after some time.I'm not aware of any package updateperformed or configuration change that would have impacted it.And it does work intermittently as mentioned above
