I use skype, and several times when i have it open, more often when i am using it, the hole system stuck with no response. The mouse stop moving, the keyboard does not work, even control + alt + backspace does not work! The only available choice is to reboot the computer.

When I'm using Nautilus, I've found (for years) that I've had to hit Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V or Del multiple times until the commands would register. I noticed this occurs when the mouse is moving. I've looked under System > Preferences but can't find anything. Is there a key in gconf or something that I can disable?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI run my desktop the old fashioned way, lots of icons on it, I think its what you would call under KDE: Folder view. (right click desktop, settings, appearance, type: Folder view)
1- first thing I noticed was that you now have the + and - signs when you hover or select icons, I understand what they mean to do but to be honest I can do that perfectly well using ctrl + mouse click, so is there a way to not show the + and - sign.
2- with 11.2 and KDE 4.3.5 if I held my mouse over a folder on my desktop I would see its content in a panel. If I for exampled placed an image on the desktop the icon would be a small version of the image. In KDE 4.5 I no longer have these effect. In Desktop settings - Plasma Workspace under Display the Previews is checked and under More Preview Options I selected the whole lot. But nope it not longer will do a preview, am I missing something here ?
3- sometimes, but hard to reproduce, when closing for example Dolphin, it wont close right away, mouse will stop moving for about 1-1.5sec and then Dolphin will close. Not sure where to look for that. I won't mind entering a bug report at KDE but rather not do it if I simply missing something in the configurations.
I use the debootstrap to make a base Debian System of the ARM architecture for BananaPro [URL]... , and install the LXDE desktop. But the keyboard and mouse didn't response after the LXDE boot.
If I use the Debian system without the LXDE desktop, and it is normal. Meanwhile, I only installed the framebuffer driver, and can't find the right GPU driver to install.
Is caused by the lack of the GPU driver ? and what should i do ?

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Mouse still working well during random period of time (it may be less then one minute and more then few hour's from boot up) then instantly stop moving (cursor are freeze) but it still active. Obviously it is not associated with any program, coz it happens even on log-on screen.
One thing make this case unusual - im using Logitech Wireless Desktop MK710 keyboard + mice set. It mean there is only one receiver for both devices. You guessed it, keyboard continues to operate normally after mouse fail! Absolutely normally! Even more, if i connect new wired usb mouse at this time, it will be work well, but not for log... after random period of time it goes freeze too =/ KEYBOARD STILL WORKING
My linux system has 6 individual monitors connected using two nVidia graphics cards. I would like to use the 5th and 6th monitor for display only. Is there any way to disable the mouse on the 5th and 6th monitors so the mouse cannot move to those monitor? The system is a Dell Precision 490 workstation with nVidia Quadro NVS440 Quad Head and Quadro NVS290 Dual Head graphics cards. It is running Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS V4.3.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm installing slack 13.0 in a Dell 2350 for a friend. once installed, it works ok for a while then within some somewhat random period of time, just plain locks up. the keyboard stops working, the mouse cursor still moves, but there is no response from mouse clicks. i was ssh'ed into the machine one of these times to see if i could read the logs during a lockup. the machine stopped responding to the ssh session as well (actually i had an instance of mc running at the time, and the machine still responded to it. when i exited mc, i was stuck in console never-never land). the logs show absolutely nothing. /etc/messages keeps showing MARK long after the lockup. all other logs are not updated since boot. this machine has an i810 chipset, is there a driver issue here?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 10.10 installed at work on my Dell Optiplex 755, which runs perfect. So I decided to install Ubuntu on my home desktop, which so far has been a mistake. Booting up takes almost 5 minutes, after I login it takes about 2 minutes to get to my desktop, typing in any application (even a shell) is horribly lagged, almost to the point where the PC is unusable. I also get extreme lag when executing programs, or just simply clicking a submit button. It will take 2-10 seconds to actually click or execute. The weird part is visual effects extra works perfect and smooth.

I am COMPLETELY new to Linux.I started a computer class recently and I started teaching myself PERL.My teacher had mentioned to me that it's far better for some reasons (he did not elaborate) to write code in a Unix system. So I got Ubuntu 10.10.I installed it along side my windows 7.After I setup my windows (had to reformat the disk) I decided to boot up into Ubuntu to set that up. I installed the necessary drivers that it required, and the updates. I was asked to restart the system so I did so.
It did not even shut down or restart my system.I waited patiently 15 minutes...30 minutes 1 hour... until I finally decided to hit the reset button on my PC. Then when I'd boot back in to Ubuntu afterwards, it would stay at the log in screen and my mouse wouldn't budge and nor is my keyboard recognized by Ubuntu.Im really frustrated and I've been searching for answers for the whooole day and I just can't seem to find something well explained. Im completely new to Ubuntu so I don't know where to enter any code in a cmd line or such.
1)Reformatted my harddrive to install windows 7 on it
2)Set up windows 7 and then booted into Ubuntu.
3) Set up Ubuntu and installed necessary drivers and updates
4) Reset the computer and waited for an hour for the reset to happen but nothing happened.
5) Manually reset my pc and booted into ubuntu
6) Stuck at log in screen with mouse and keyboard not functioning (unable to use ubuntu).
I was having a problem with the mouse and keyboard randomly failing to work after upgrading to version 10.04. I tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions. The problem went away after I edited the file /etc/default/grub and changed the following line:

If you are unable to open a terminal window, try doing the following
Ctrl+Alt+F1
Log into you account.

After saving your changes and exiting nano you can reboot by using the halt command.(FYI Ctrl+Alt+F7 gets you back into X server -- but you need to reboot for the change to take effect) Update: problem recurred. I had to do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to log into a console. I executed 'ps aux | more' to find the PID for X.Using the PID I restart X with 'sudo kill -S SIGTERM <PID>'.Once it started up again it was fine.
I just install CentOS 5.6 on my computer. My mouse and keyboard stops working in 2 cases: 1. copy files from usb (FAT and NTFS); 2. update my system (specifically, when downloading update packages). But the system's still working. It seems weird but I can do nothing but reboot every time.

Everything else seems OK but how would I know without the keyboard or mouse. The keyboard turns off right before the first Ubuntu screen. The Numlock will go off and then nothing. Tried to run dpkg - fix broken packages after booting to repair. All I get is fail to fetch http: (whatever )Could not resolve us.archive.ubuntu.com. Update: Alt-F3 ... then Booting to terminal mode does not disable the keyboard.
Keyboard and sometimes mouse stops functioning whilst using oowriter - it only happens with writer. I lose control for up to 30 secs and then it comes back - but it keeps happening. This is on a 10.10 machine with standard install. I have changed keyboard from wireless to wired and back to wireless with new batteries. I have uninstalled Office, rebooted and re-installed but it is still happening on native odt docs. Is this a common recent issue?

They keyboard and mouse stop responding (my keyboard status lights no longer respond, but my optical mouse light is still on). I can ssh to the machine, and it seems to work as normal. I kill processes that are open on my desktop through ssh, (i.e., Firefox), and I notice when I switch back, I still have the same frozen image on my screen. I'm running Fedora 12 on a Shuttle SN78SH7. Updates are all current from the Fedora repositories. I'm using the Nouveau driver for the Shuttle's on-board Nvidia graphics adapter. At random intervals (1 to 5 times per day), my USB keyboard and the buttons on my USB mouse stop working and the desktop freezes (i.e. GKrellm graphical data stops updating, partially painted windows don't complete). However, I can still move the mouse pointer around the desktop. This only seems to happen when I am actually using the computer from the console. It has never happened while the system was turned on, but not being used.
When the mouse and keyboard stop working, I can log in from another computer via ssh. Once the computer gets in this state, the only way to fix things is either to reboot remotely using ssh or to cycle power. I've run low level hardware diagnostics - everything checks out OK. This computer only has USB and firewire inputs. No PS2 jacks.
I randomly started up my laptop one day and the mouse and keyboard stopped responding once GDM's login screen came up. Everything works fine from the console, but even if I run startx from the login shell the mouse and keyboard do not work, even though everything else in GNOME runs perfectly.
I am using an HP dv6426us laptop running Ubuntu 9.04 (i686 architecture with the 2.6.28-15-generic kernel). I recently upgrade my server pc from 11.2 to 11.3 via the net. Everything seems to go through ok. I restarted the PC and now i can not move the mouse or type anything at the login screen.
I can ping the pc fine and i can ssh into it, which tells me the pc is not froozen, just X is?
Today my keyboard and or mouse repeatedly stop responding some minutes after boot. Currently the mouse stops responding after a few seconds of movement immediately after boot. Yesterday I used the machine most of the day, yet this issue didn't arise. Today I used it for a few hours before the issue developed. I did a full system update from the fresh install yesterday night. It's therefore possible that this issue has arisen as a result of the update, and that today the onset was delayed for some reason.
Earlier today I had the same problem with the keyboard. I replaced the batteries thinking that this was the cause. Now it looks like both keyboard and mouse are affected by the same problem. When the mouse stops functioning and the keyboard remains active, I unplug the mouse and replug it in, but it still does not respond, and only the unplug, and not the replug, are detected and logged in dmesg. I noticed ever since I installed Fedora yesterday that plugging in new usb devices after boot did not result in them being recognised, and that if I unplugged a mouse or keyboard and plugged them in again they would not work (requiring a hard reset). Currently the machine isn't usable as I cannot use the mouse for more than a few seconds. I haven't tried a PS2 connection, and currently I have keyboard access.

I haven't tried PS2. My keyboard and mouse appear to be working again (25 mins and still responsive).I unplugged all USB devices except for the keyboard, mouse, and wifi dongle. This appears to have solved the problem. Other devices that were plugged in were a USB to SATA external HDD caddy (powered off), and a serial USB connection to a Sheeva Plug computer (mini server). how I can use all my USB ports in future without this issue arising?
Hey folks. I'm not sure how to describe this properly but periodically Kubuntu 11.04 will stop responding to my mouse and keyboard EXCEPT that Plasma, or what I assume is Plasma, still responds to mouse events. I can launch and exit the desktop cube and desktop grid but can't access my panels or any application controls. The only fix I've found is to do a hard power cycle.
Does this behavior ring any bells for anyone? This is the last hurdle I've got between me and using Kubuntu 11.04 full time on my Samsung RV515.
I have openSUSE 11.3 on my Lenovo Thinkpad X61. It has been running fine for many months, but yesterdaychanged. For example, between the two previous words I had actually typed "something" ("yesterday something changed") but it was lost. I type at normal speed but the machine cannot keep up. Hopelessly annoying. This happens in every application I have checked. The only unusual thing I did yesterday was to load a bunch of photos off a relative's digital camera. I'm concerned I may have picked up spyware.

For example, the mouse and the keyboard will stop responding and the screen sometimes get divided into 4 smaller quadrants of the current screen.The only thing I can do after it freezes is reboot the machine.Would anyone know what is causing this?Also, I keep having to move my optical mouse from the usb slot into a ps/2 slot.And the same thing with my keyboard. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using ubuntu 9.10, but I also noticed this with 9.04 on a different laptop. Sometimes when I am using skype, for no reason and after no particular event the audio for everything in the system except for the skype video will just quit, and sometimes the sound doesn't even work for the video either. Buttons don't make their sounds any more and I can't play music or hear audio on flash videos. By can't play music, its weird because the music player (amarok) will just scroll through my entire playlist really fast like it can't play any of the songs.
To solve the problem, I have to shut down skype and firefox, but I'm not sure whether I can just shut one of them down without having to shut down the other. My audio settings in skype are all set to pulse and it is adjusting the mixer levels automatically. This problem has persisted across two laptops and two versions of ubuntu (9.04 32 bit and 9.10 64 bit), so I think it's about time I finally asked how to fix it.
I downloaded ubuntu 11.04 and did the usual shizz and it was all going well. I went to get a drink and by the time i got back my computer had completely crashed. I cant move the mouse or anything and it is stuck on 'Installing System'.
Ive restarted my computer (unplug), i had to format the harddrive i was installing it on (luckily it was empty already).
It bounces on and off. No pattern, but mostly off. I have ran it off a live cd and off the hard drive, multiple live cd's and versions of ubuntu. Even a usb mouse does the same thing
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just installed CentOS-5.4 on an AMD64 box, dual boot with Windows 7 64, if that matters. At first I could not get the GUI to display at all, but fixed that using system-config-display. During installation, the keyboard (HP bluetooth set with mouse) worked fine in the GUI, but mouse did not. Now when it loads the GUI interface after booting, neither the keyboard or the mouse will work at all, therefore I can't navigate anywhere. I have done the yum update already as well, from init 3, but they still are not working. what I should do next, where to check?

When I begin to use Mozilla Firefox (version automatically installed with OpenSUSE 11.3) the cursor freezes or locks up (when I move the mouse/cursor-pointer), and the only way I can do anything is turn off the computer and start over (to no avail, because it does the same thing within a a minute or so after entering Mozilla Firefox. I did not have this problem with OpenSUSE 11.2.

Works fine but after switching between each machine once, the keyboard/mouse does not work. Tried unplugging the device(s) and the KVM itself from each machine but no luck.Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to use the KVM (right now I have to use VNC to get a similar effect).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ubuntu loaded in KDE and this is in dual boot with Windows vista. I was "upgrading" my Linux (through update manager) when my computer just shut down. And when i restarted the computer to login to the Linux all I got was blank screen. I logged into recovery mode and selected the option to fix the packages. I rebooted my system and then again logged into the Linux. This time I could get the login screen but my mouse as well as Keyboard was not recognized. Essentially i cannot type or scroll and cannot login into Linux.

This problem starts from when Ubuntu loads, keyboard and mouse is fine until that point. There's also a complaint message once it's loaded up: The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet".
On a Dell Inspiron and a Acer Aspire X3200, Ubuntu 9.10 works just fine.
