I have installed Fedora 14 and have problems with the sound i have an Realtek ALC662 6-Channel HD Audio chip and ALSA should be loading by Fedora but no sound not over the speakers and also the headphone doesn't produce sound, while playing video or dvd no sound.

when trying to play songs purchased off of iTunes I don't want to be limited to having to watch them through Virtualbox.how to get vlc or mplayer to play .mp4 videos in Ubuntu 9.10? I've got vlc 1.0 and trying to convert them using ffmpeg didn't work, I keep getting the following error.

This is true for .flv, .avi, .mov, and .mp4, at least. This is true in both vlc and movie player. Thumbnails generated from frames in the videos appear correctly in nautilus. Videos play fine in firefox, on ....., but I downloaded one as an .flv and then it had the same problem. I have restricted extras freshly installed. My "Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala" system is fully updated. I've found several other forum posts about the same kind of problem, but I couldn't find anything helpful in them (like that the contrast setting might be WAY out of whack, which it wasn't, or that nvidia drivers needed to be updated or reinstalled, which I don't have anyway, etc).

I'm on Fedora 13 GNOME. I haven't installed proprietary Nvidia drivers for my GTS 250 graphic card. The problem is now whenever I play any video file in any video player the PC freezes locking up virtual terminals. However the sound of the video continues to play on until the video ends. I have to then cold reset from the switch on chassis. What can be the probable reason behind this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a Canon Vixia HF 200 Camcorder. It stores data on an SD card. I was able without difficulty to copy the files to my Fedora 13 (64 bit) system. There are a bunch of .mts files in a Stream Folder, which I assume contain the videos I made. Some searching with google suggested mplayer might be able to play these videos. When I try that, I get an Mplayer 'boombox' icon playing the audio, but no video.
How to Get info about state of things at present with high definition video.and Linux? If necessary I can use the Windows software that came with the camera, but I would like to do as much as I can with Fedora. To start, I would like to play the videos and also to write them to a DVD which I can play on my DVD player, BlurRay if possible.

I was listening to some Chopin today and I thought how cool it would be if there would be a way to put the sound output of Amarok (or anything else, maybe line-in or microphone) through some effects that would make it sound like being read from a vintage vinyl disk. Or when listening atmospheric folk songs about forests, it would be really cool to add some echo or reverberation, so it would sound like a large forest, ooor... But you get the idea. Is there any nice way of putting Amarok's sound through JACK, and from then on through a sound effector?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a couple of odd issues in my 64bit install of Fedora 12. Firstly, I get some sound corruption when playing mp3s, video, in fact any audio. The first time a video or mp3 runs it seems fine, but for a certain time after-woods all i hear is weird static popping noises (hard to describe) with none of the original audio present. The problem seems intermittent, and can also happen when say i fast forward music of videos. I had this same issue under Ubuntu, and happens in both Gnome and KDE.I just experimented with fast forwarding an MP3. If I click some place along the progress bar it works fine. If i drag the bar it then corrupts the sound.
I also have an issue with multiple applications accessing the audio device at the same time. This is an issue I did not have under Ubuntu. The first app will work fine and play the video or music. However any other apps i start up will not do anything. As an example, if I have ..... loaded in FIrefox and have played a video, and then I load a video in the movie player on my desktop, it will not play the video until i quit firefox. I have tried all sorts of options with pulseaudio, including switching the virtual device on for multiple playback, but to no avail.I have not tried the 32bit version to see if this is an issue with 64bit and my PC.
I'm using Fedora 14 and wanna place xbmc on another terminal using " xinit xbmc -- :2". The xbmc lunched fine in another terminal. But when playing sound, I can only hear it in terminal 1. That is, I open a gnome-terminal in terminal 1, run "xinit xbmc -- :2" inside -> xbmc lunched in terminal 2 -> play a video with xbmc -> graph is ok, but sound come out from terminal 1 rather than terminal 2. This shouldn't be a problem with xbmc, for when I use mplayer instead, sound come out from wrong terminal too.

now my problem is when i run any video file in any media player, my system just freezes...and only way to get rid that is system reset !!! and it get freezed randomly, sometimes system works fine without halting!! i update my kmod-nvidia and kernel but the problem has not been solved!!

It seems I can play at least an mpeg movie, and mp3. But I find the quality of sound of the mp3 in kaffeine very poor. Yes, it plays, but some mp3's are struggling the first 10 seconds or so,, eg, Shivers - Armin van Buuren. When I play the same mp3 in xmms, it plays like a charm. That's not what I want, I want an all-round multimedia player. Xine does the job very well,, like xmms,, and plays also the mpeg, but unfortunately, xine shows an error message about a segmentation fault, upon exiting xine. Any hint to play mp3 files in kaffeine like xmms does?
the movie i downloaded plays for only 19 sec and stops saying you will be redirected to microsoft download page. the file is 700 Mb. i installed w32 codecs after searching through many threads but still my vlc doesnt play the file.

If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

The sound stopped working on my Macbook Pro 1,1. It was working fine before, and I can't think of any changes I made that would make it stop working. I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. I'm using 10.10.One curiosity: Whenever I do something that would normally cause sound to play, the optical audio red light in the headphone jack turns on, but no sound plays.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis problem presented itself upon upgrading to ubuntu 9.10. Any time something affects the sound system the buzz goes away. If a song plays, no buzz. If I simply adjust or mute the volume, no buzz. But after 10 seconds of no sound related activity, the buzz returns. This is a very loud and aggravating buzz, most likely made worse by the fact that I run my sound through an amplifier.

I am running Natty with the 2.6.39 kernel.
I've been running F12 x86_64 for almost a week now without significant issues, until now.
