This problem presented itself upon upgrading to ubuntu 9.10. Any time something affects the sound system the buzz goes away. If a song plays, no buzz. If I simply adjust or mute the volume, no buzz. But after 10 seconds of no sound related activity, the buzz returns. This is a very loud and aggravating buzz, most likely made worse by the fact that I run my sound through an amplifier.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed 10.04 after about a year away from Ubuntu due to some windows specific software I needed to run while at school. Now that I'm back I'm having some trouble with poor sound quality with my Logitech 5.1 surround system.
I installed pulseaudio manager and was able to select the 5.1 system and I get sound out of each speaker, however even at relitavely low volume there is a ringing or buzzing sound on top of the music or video I play. It's almost like feedback, but I don't have any input devices.
I'm open for suggestions or ways to investegate this further. It isn't terrible, but it makes the audio sound really poor. Almost like I have a very poor quality file, which is not the case. I haven't had anything like this happen to the speakers in Windows 7 so I know it's probably not their fault.
I'm running the "Realtek ALC888" codec.

Both the speakers and the headphones keep playing the sound with headphone plugged in.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently switched to Ubuntu 9.10 from Fedora 12 because it was giving me problems, but now I've run into some problems with Ubuntu. I really only use my computer for internet and music, and I'm not really able to listen to my music.My computer is an HP Pavillion dv7-3060US laptop, AMD 64bit processor, 4gb ram, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 graphics chip and an ATI chipset (not sure which).
I have an altec lansing speaker configuration, with a built in subwoofer on the bottom. My problem comes that the sound is coming out of the subwoofer, not the actual speakers themself. When I try plugging in an external set of speakers, nothing happens, the sound still plays. Switching the device from "Interal audio analog stereo" to the other choices in my list does nothing (system>preferences>sound is the list im talking about)I'm able to hear music through my subwoofer when using totem music player, but neither rhythmbox nor amarok play any music. amarok doesn't play at all, and rhythm box shows the music is loaded but no sound comes out and it looks like its playing it at 2x speed.
I've attempted to follow the comprehensive audio problems guide here but I get to step 3 and the website isnt the same, so I can't continue.These are the outputs from the first few steps:

The sound doesn't play through the main speakers, but instead plays through the subwoofer on the bottom of the laptop. The headphone/mic jacks don't work either. I've listed the relevant lspci -v code in my other thread, but I'm not sure what other information is needed (like I'm trying to find the exact sound card I have so I can google around for a solution but since everything in laptops is so specialized I don't really know what to look for).
I do apologize if this question has somehow been answered elsewhere but I've waited 2+ weeks for a response and have gotten nothing. Also, I tried following this sticky thread but the link it refers to in step (3) under general help does not work, so I cannot proceed with any of the directions.
I am anxious to resolve this problem as I just discovered compiz-fusion and it just makes it even more fun to be loaded into my Ubuntu install, and I'm anxious to make the full-time transition to Ubuntu but I won't be able to do that if I can't play music.
I used WUBI to install ubuntu 11.04 on my computer. I have an hp computer with AMD + ATI graphics. Once I am logged in to my account I get a high pitching buzzing noise. Can you help me get rid of it because it is extremely annoying.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my sound on my Laptop. The problem is that before a sound plays, a small "click" or "bang" is emitted. When a sound has ended and some time has passed, a lesser "click"/"bang" is played.
I think this is because the sound device is turned off if not used in like 5 seconds, and then turned on when it is used again. Turning on/off emits these small sounds. Anyone else having these problems? Is there a way I can debug this?
I'm having an issue with my computer and the headphones. When I plug in the headphones into the headphone jack, the sound plays through the headphones but it also plays through the speakers as well at the same time. I've attempted to play around with the sound settings to see if I can get this issue resolved but I have not been able too. Computer specifications are in my signature.
View 3 Replies View RelatedPlaying a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

I don't know what I did but I lost all audio. I'm running F15 with gnome 3. By opening system settings and then sound I don't find anything muted. Under hardware I have 3 devices, the first is RS880 Audio Device (Radeon HD 4200) this one has no sound at all when I click test speakers. Then I have quickcam comm STX and then I have Internal Audio which works by clicking on test speakers.. I have no clue of where to start to fix this but reinstall everything again.

I know it's not a hardware problem because the Apple sound plays when I turn on the computer. Everything is unmuted in ALSA Mixer. None of the hardware options in Sound Preferences produce sound. Plugging in headphones or speakers does not solve the problem. When they do work, sound also plays out of the speakers. The only solutions I was able to find were for earlier versions, which don't work for 11.04.

The default player is rythymbox and I also have VLC media player installed. Neither will produce any sound. When I press the "test speakers" button on the sound preferences hardware tab, there is no sound.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have pclinuxos 2007 (updated to kde4). I put on webinars, and like to record them using recordmydesktop. All is working fine by putting a splitter in my speaker out, and feeding it back into my line in. This only works when I have analog loopback not muted.My problem is that pclinuxos is now putting out there 2010 version, and there is no way I can see to un-mute the analog loopback. It does not show up as any options onkmix.... I am going to attach a couple pictures one with my old kmix, and one with the new 2010 version.My question is, how can I get back that analog loopback, or is there another way to get the sound to record from both my speaker and my mic?

My friend recently installed fedora 12 in his system. Intel core2 duo, 2 GB ram. It didnt play mp3 files, but the sound during login, logout etc were ok. I searched some sites and told him to do

I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
