Debian Multimedia :: Iceweasel No Sound Playing YouTube Video
May 11, 2015
I have to use Chromium to play videos on youtube and other sites. Using iceweasel i have video but no sound. If I hit F5 (refreshing site) then I have sound, but nov video.
I made a alsa-base.conf following the instructions in this topic [URL] .... without success
I installed Debian 8.1 with iceweasel 38.2.1esr-1~deb8u1
Whenever I want to open a youtube fragment I do hear the sound but the screen just remains green. I already googled the issue but found no solution that works.
The following url streams nicely in Chromium but Iceweasel complains that FlashPlayer needs to be installed!
[URL] ...
############------- EDIT -------############ This URL is a live stream of a news channel... NOT a fixed length/size video. ############------- EDIT -------############
I can't remember facing this problem with any other YouTube videos, just this one!
Searching around a bit I found an article from 2010 : [URL] ....
First interesting bit: If you're running Chrome or Safari as your main browser, Google's now offering up YouTube videos without Flash.
That's right—fewer system hangs, browser crashes, and other issues, and just straight-up video through HTML5 standards.
What I mean by black screen is that whenever I view a video or if there is video content anywhere on the page, my whole monitor goes black for around 3 seconds then plays the video content.
I am running debian linux wheezy, and recently, all of a sudden, all videos in my iceweasel browser have been refusing to play videos of any kind at full volume. I am, however, able to download the video and play it at full volume on vlc player or sytem video player. Why iceweasel is acting this way?
I wrote y bash script that opens YouTube playlist using youtube-dl and VLC applications: the output of youtube-dl is the input of VLC. The only problem is VLC needs to be closed after each playlist item unless I get the error message of the operating system:
"ERROR: unable to write data: [Errno 32] Broken pipe".
I understand the reason but I don't know how to resolve it: it is possible to close previous STDIN of VLC without killing the entire VLC process so that a new youtube-dl instance can connect to the same VLC instance? In short this is my question. The problem is detailed here: Downloading and playing videos and subtitles.
when trying to play songs purchased off of iTunes I don't want to be limited to having to watch them through Virtualbox.how to get vlc or mplayer to play .mp4 videos in Ubuntu 9.10? I've got vlc 1.0 and trying to convert them using ffmpeg didn't work, I keep getting the following error.
swScaler: Unknown format is not supported as input pixel format Cannot get resampling context
I can play sound files with aplay, esdplay, and vlc, but I don't get any sound from iceweasel and chromium.
I installed a squeeze base system (without gnome and without the standard system utilities), then added (using --no-install-recommends) xserver-xorg-core, xdm, fluxbox, alsa-base, alsa-utils, alsa-oss, iceweasel, chromium-browser. Here I checked for sound and there was none from the browsers. I have since installed vlc, esound-clients, alsaplayer-esd, gstreamer0.10-alsa, and other software that didn't look sound-related and didn't change the symptoms.
Setting ICEWEASEL_DSP to "aoss" or "esddsp" doesn't help. Neither does "chmod -R 777 /dev/{audio,dsp,midi,mixer,snd}". snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss are loaded. Both my account and root are in group "audio". Running the browsers as root doesn't help.
This is the output of chromium:
In case it makes any difference, all of this happens in a qemu-kvm virtual machine with an emulated es1370 soundcard. Same with sb16 soundcard.
I would prefer not to install everything vaguely related to sound in the repositories in the hope of things fixing themselves. That's just ugly, plus I have only 200MB free space left.
This is true for .flv, .avi, .mov, and .mp4, at least. This is true in both vlc and movie player. Thumbnails generated from frames in the videos appear correctly in nautilus. Videos play fine in firefox, on ....., but I downloaded one as an .flv and then it had the same problem. I have restricted extras freshly installed. My "Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala" system is fully updated. I've found several other forum posts about the same kind of problem, but I couldn't find anything helpful in them (like that the contrast setting might be WAY out of whack, which it wasn't, or that nvidia drivers needed to be updated or reinstalled, which I don't have anyway, etc).
If I watch a video on YouTube, the browser crashes when I try to change to another webpage. Typically, the video will play through but a few have crashed midway. It always crashes on changing the webpage after a video starts (whether it finishes first or not). There is no error message. I have searched the forum for 'iceweasel crash' and didn't see anything quite matching my own problem. I did look at related posts and none of them solved my problem. I'm not sure if the videos are HTML5 or flash. Perhaps a mix of both.
There's no problem with browsing regular pages, even if they have video advertisements in a sidebar. This seems to only be happening on YouTube. I have turned off all browser extensions and plugins with no improvement.
I've searched the internet and seen where there was a security problem with Flashplayer a month ago and the symptoms (if hacked into) sound similar to what's happening to me but I am using the latest version of Iceweasel and this bug is supposed to be fixed.
My Debian install is only about a week old and was a clean install to a formatted partition. I've added a few minor apps since install but nothing that would effect this. I also installed nVidia's proprietary graphics drivers. I can watch dvd movies, MP4's, .flv files, etc with no problems.
I've installed ScriptSafe on my Chrome Browser, when it's enabled Youtube videos loads slow despite there are ads displayed on the video. Is this a bug?
when I use mpd with pulseaudio, I get no sound but clients appear to be playing (ncmpcpp and gmpc). Other players such as vlc or mplayer work just fine.If I go under the mixer, I get "no application is currently playing or recording audio" under the "Applications" tab when playing through mpd. In contrast, when I'm using mplayer or vlc, both show up in that tab. It behaves as though pulse is simply not configured to work with mpd.
When I try to play any music or movie file over my network....VLC or any other player gives me errors. I don't have any problems when I copy movie files directly to my hard drive from my network. This is on Debian 8 if that information is of any relevance here...
Here is the error I am faced with...
Code: Select allYour input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'smb://gfstorage01/wolf/Torent%20Downloads/Olympus%20Has%20Fallen%20(2013)%20%5B1080p%5D/Olympus.Has.Fallen.2013.1080p.BluRay.x264.YIFY.mp4'. Check the log for details.
From time to time system freezes with no particular motive but most often when watching you tube video in full screen mode. How to diagnose freeze, hang, blocking problems in debian jessie system amd 64 gnome 3?
i'm using debian wheezy and whenever i'm playing a webm video, typically on videos, totem and mplayer can't play video. the video just freezes. (i assume because they both use gstreamer.) when i try to use vlc when those 2 aren't working, the video does play but there is no sound.
Is it normal that you can't watch YouTube videos after a fresh install? It comes with something called GNU Gnash but it doesn't work at all in Iceweasel.
I have installed Fedora 14 and have problems with the sound i have an Realtek ALC662 6-Channel HD Audio chip and ALSA should be loading by Fedora but no sound not over the speakers and also the headphone doesn't produce sound, while playing video or dvd no sound.
the movie i downloaded plays for only 19 sec and stops saying you will be redirected to microsoft download page. the file is 700 Mb. i installed w32 codecs after searching through many threads but still my vlc doesnt play the file.
Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.
just installed debian 5.0.4 on an imac g3 500mhz allinone and when i went to videos to test the video quality the video seems to open over and over, audio starts and then restarts and copies of the video pop up continuously. the only way to kill the video is to shut down the computer. this happens in epiphany and also in iceweasel, is this a flash issue? any one seen anything like this before? it acts like there is a loop in the software that causes it to keep opening the same thing over and over.
I use Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 64-bit stable OS with Gnome 3.14.1 and Iceweasel 31.8.0
Some times, when watching full screen videos on: „you tube”, the only way to exit from full screen is to navigate with Alt+Tab to another open window, which cancel full screen mode, or Alt+F4.
Esc and „Exit from full screen mode” down right button, do not cancel full screen. Also on vimeo full screen videos freezes on half way.
I read that these may be because of VGA so i changed the VGA adapter, problem persists!
I have a: debian squeeze(with last updates),sound system(Bose companion 5 USB) and Alsa Version 1.0.21. Sound system is work(good work) in:Ubuntu 9.10,Suse 11 and Windows But in Debian i have a starange problem:periodic sound is disappear(simply so or when i'm switch differents video files). It's not a problem with video players. /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart(stop|start) not help. Remain only restart all system, but it's not always help.Sometime it's help only 3 or 5 restart time. Mother board audio card is disabled(in BIOS). Detailed about strangeness:
1 Variant: sound is disappear when i'm swich differents video files(simply video or online video).
2 Varian:When Debian is starting:sound eat in logins form(sound a drop),but at once sound is disappear.
i set up an ltsp server on debian squeeze. after a standard installation, sound doesn't work on clients.
[code]...
when i start iceweasel normally (executed on server side), i get sound on the client. when i start ltsp-localapps iceweasel, i get no sound on flash sites and videos videos.what's wrong ? with local apps, is it possible that the flashplugin-nonfree doesn't talk to alsa ?
When i try to play HD (even with 720p) video the CPU load is almost 100%. I'm using vlc player and the movie is barely watchable. If i switch to Movie Player, the CPU load is slightly decreased, but after 2-3 minutes the audio goes out of sync, so no solution there. I have an nvidia 8600gt graphics card and the proper driver installed, every compiz effect works flawlessly without the slightest increase in CPU load and a dual core 2,1 GHz AMD processor. It shouldn't be a hardware issue.
I am trying to burn a video DVD created from "Devede" with K3B. The video DVD successfully burns, and plays in my computer, but does not play in any of the DVD players in the house. I used to user "ConvertXToDVD" when I was on Windows, but am trying to find a free/open source alternative on ubuntu. I am using all default options. I have looked in the settings for both programs, and I fail to see the problem here. Even the ISO created from devede seems to match up to the Video DVD (that works in the players) I had burned with ConvertXToDVD.
In Devede I have it so that the menu is disabled and it automatically plays the first title. Apparently this is not good enough.. I thought this program was supposed to be easy to use? What am I doing wrong here? I am using the same DVD-R I have used before on my Windows machine to great success. I am getting frustrated as I have went through 2 DVDs,

I bought an LG external cd/dvd unit (model: GP08 ). The problem is that I have no sound when playing DVDs. Everything else works fine. I installed libdvdcss (followed this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...ts/PlayingDVDs) but still no sound on DVDs (the DVD works fine on a windows machine). I have an Acer Aspire One with Karmic Koala.
