I'm on Fedora 13 GNOME. I haven't installed proprietary Nvidia drivers for my GTS 250 graphic card. The problem is now whenever I play any video file in any video player the PC freezes locking up virtual terminals. However the sound of the video continues to play on until the video ends. I have to then cold reset from the switch on chassis. What can be the probable reason behind this?
I just got a Canon Vixia HF 200 Camcorder. It stores data on an SD card. I was able without difficulty to copy the files to my Fedora 13 (64 bit) system. There are a bunch of .mts files in a Stream Folder, which I assume contain the videos I made. Some searching with google suggested mplayer might be able to play these videos. When I try that, I get an Mplayer 'boombox' icon playing the audio, but no video.
How to Get info about state of things at present with high definition video.and Linux? If necessary I can use the Windows software that came with the camera, but I would like to do as much as I can with Fedora. To start, I would like to play the videos and also to write them to a DVD which I can play on my DVD player, BlurRay if possible.
I have a Asus UX30 with an Intel GMA 4500MHD laptop with ubuntu, working with no problems except that when I'm watching some video it often freezes. The screen turns black and the only way to get it some where is to shutdown in the power button. Is there any special reason for computer suddenly freezes
When I play some video file, like some series (.avi), my system often freezes, the image become static and the sound starts looping. Ctr+Alt+Del does nothing and the only way to shut the computer down and restart the system is by holding the power button down for a long time. I've already searched the web for this problem but I find nothing. I have a Asus UX-30 with an Intel GMA X4500MHD.
I have installed debian squeeze, and upgraded to latest kernel (by compiling the source). This is to get support of my new Intel DH67CL motherboard.have fantastic display 1920x1080, and debian detected all of the hardware. It plays sound, ..... videos etc. But whenever I try to open an avi file though movie player or vlc the desktop freezes. I could move the mouse pointer, but no reaction to clicks. I can change to terminal by Alt+Ctrl+F1, and then has to reboot. How to troubleshoot this
plain and simple how do I watch my old .amv videos. Whenever I try I get this error.
Quote:
Could not display "/home/derek/Videos/shrek 3 (Ipod).amv". There is no application installed for RIFF audio files
I have no clue whats so ever how to get around the error. I installed the medibuntu though terminal sense that was restricted codec I thought but nothing.
When ever i play a video (VLC, ....., Hulu, ect...)my computer freezes (well the mouse buttons really), and I cant do anything but move the cursor and press Alt-Ctrl-Delete?
When I try to play any music or movie file over my network....VLC or any other player gives me errors. I don't have any problems when I copy movie files directly to my hard drive from my network. This is on Debian 8 if that information is of any relevance here...
Here is the error I am faced with...
Code: Select allYour input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'smb://gfstorage01/wolf/Torent%20Downloads/Olympus%20Has%20Fallen%20(2013)%20%5B1080p%5D/Olympus.Has.Fallen.2013.1080p.BluRay.x264.YIFY.mp4'. Check the log for details.
I am using open suse 11.4, and have been trying to play video files from a web site, but when I click on the play link all that happens is that it goes to the page where the video should be but it doesn't load or play, not sure if it is a flash or java problem. the file plays without problem in Ubuntu 10.10 and also Win 7. it is a video file from [URL].
My problem is that my computer plays MTS videos very bad (the videos get freeze, etc) in Ubuntu 11.04. I tested many players, but I didn't get good performance during the playback in any of them.
However, in the same computer, I use K-Lite Codec Pack in Windows XP and MTS videos are fine!
Is there any way to play MTS videos in Ubuntu very well?
Performance is excellent in both operating systems (XP and Ubuntu 11.04).
I am using debian 6.0.0 The video files are played by default in totem.I like gmplayer. Also I want to make script for intelligently guessing as follows Get all the names of file in <folder-containing-video>. See which of them (among *.srt.*.sub.*.ssa) has maximum number of characters matching with video name. That file will be parameter for sub option . I saw a desktop entry for gvim which is like gvim -f %F -f means foreground I can try gmplayer -vo xv -sub what-should-I-write-here %F
So, I upgraded to 11.04. Everything seems to running okay, but when I go to play a video file, the colors are all screwed up. It looks like they're almost negative in the way that they are displayed.
How con i install win32 codecs (free)in 0pen suse 11.... I have got gstreamer codec pack but on compiling it says missing packages like c, gcc, glib...etc...how can i get them from where do i get them....
Today encoders are getting smarter. They can compress Blu ray similar quality in 700MB. It seems header of video file contain info about frame rate, audio/video encoder etc. which can't be guessed. In MPEG audio , every part of file is independently playable. If a movie is binary split into 6 parts & I don't have the first part then it is unplayable.

Basically I've just set up a very basic network connecting my vista laptop to fedora 10 laptop via ethernet. I download from the fedora box to an external hd which I can access from both computers. So, my question is, is it possible to have the same video play on both machines, in sync?

I had FC 6 and FC8 installed on a laptop, and all my video players (xime, vlc, mplayer) worked perfect. However I installed FC11 and the video freezes for few seconds while the sound is working o.k. then the video starts moving faster to synchronize the sound. This just happens the first 10-15 seconds and using any video player...

This was my favorite media player because it played all the files I could throw at it. However, in Fedora 12 it fails to run my .avi or .mkv files. I may have forgotten something, like some driver or codec, but movie player plays them well. I have VLC in Mac and it plays the files without question. Am I doing something wrong?
I've been using Xine for a while now, and all of the sudden when I try to play an audio file I get this message saying ( The stream " There is no Mrl" uses an unsupported codec:
codec: MPEG 1/2 (0x0) Star Playback Anyway?)
Anyway it will not play any video or audio files. Has anyone seen this type of message before?
When I am playig videos with mplayer (I am using smplayer frontend), sometimes video freezes and i had to push space button twice before it starts to play again. I am using Fedora 11 x86_64. How it can be fixed?
I recently installed fedora on my laptop and after update and everything else, I played an avi file by totem media player but it asked for Divx MPEG-4 Version 5 decoder and when I searched, it asked for GStreamer FFmpeg-based plug-ins to install. When I tried to install these plugins it pops out a menu that says All packages are already installed. This happens for mp4 and flv formats too.
I have worked the whole day to get an multimedia player that plays all format's. After trying vlc, realplayerGold, Xine, Kaffeine, Rhythmbox and Totem, I ended up at kaffeine.
I virtually installed al gstreamer-plugins,, like: Code: Dependencies Resolved Package Arch Version Repository Size Installing: gstreamer-plugins-bad i586 0.10.13-7.fc11 rpmfusion-free-updates 1.1 M gstreamer-plugins-bad-devel i586 0.10.13-7.fc11 rpmfusion-free-update 15 k gstreamer-plugins-bad-devel-docs i586 0.10.13-7.fc11 rpmfusion free-updates 163 k gstreamer-plugins-bad-extras i586 0.10.13-7.fc11 rpmfusion-free-updates 69 k .....

It seems I can play at least an mpeg movie, and mp3. But I find the quality of sound of the mp3 in kaffeine very poor. Yes, it plays, but some mp3's are struggling the first 10 seconds or so,, eg, Shivers - Armin van Buuren. When I play the same mp3 in xmms, it plays like a charm. That's not what I want, I want an all-round multimedia player. Xine does the job very well,, like xmms,, and plays also the mpeg, but unfortunately, xine shows an error message about a segmentation fault, upon exiting xine. Any hint to play mp3 files in kaffeine like xmms does?
Problem is very similar to: Problems playing mkv HD films in opensuse but not windows but with enough differences that I start a new thread:
* playback in VLC does not work -- there is only sound
* playback in SMplayer works, however -- when I scroll forward, the video freezes and sound continues, to unfreeze video I have scroll a tiny bit backward
I tried changing the video ouput driver (in SMplayer) from xv to xv/noveu-nvidia, it didn't help. Please note, that I use the same settings (initially) as before in OS11.1.
I'm having an issue when ever I play any type of media with any media player everything starts acting buggy. Buggy such as I can't click anything nor will hot keys work properly. Seems as if everything is somewhat frozen but the courser can still move. This only happens when I play a media file. Using Maverick Meerkat!
