I am trying to setup empathy to use yahoo im. I have searched and searched and apparently I cannot find a resolution. Does this work for anyone? Is there another IM option that will? I can connect to msn without error, but for yahoo account, i just get a network error.
I get error when I try to login my yahoo account. It seems okay with Gtalk, I havent checked the others because I use yahoo for most of time. It blows out network error no matter how i try: killall tempathy-butterfly (it's probably not running on my system, I've tried with killall telepathy-haze,salut which are running and having relative with telepathy ), edit host file, change the server name by adding cn before it. But it's still no go up to now.
My alternatives are meebo or wine and trillian, worked, but is there any chance for Empathy or Pidgin (it gives me error: connection refused)? It's just happened for 3-4 days recently, i dont know whether my network has configured right or not. Hope someone give me a hand which should embarrass me to continue living in linux bug world.
I'm getting 'Network Error' in Empathy on my MSN accounts. This is an old issue but the answer I always knew (just killall telepathy-butterfly and restart Empathy) isn't working.There is no process telepathy-butterfly.
I am trying to connect to empathy, but whenever I log in, under my name is says "network error". My internet connection is working fine, and I have full bars.
I'm trying to connect to freenode using my Empathy but it always gives me network error (on chat.freenode.net and irc.freenode.net). The steps I took were the simplest ones: Edit > Accounts Add...Protocol: IRC Network: FreeNode Nickname: pedrosanta Real Name: Pedro Santa Start session This is very, very strange. Anyone got this too? Can you shed me some light on what's happening or how can figure that out? FYI, I'm using the Portuguese version.

Anyone recompiled Empathy on Fedora? I have problem of configure and make as following:
checking for LIBEMPATHY... configure: error: Package requirements ( glib-2.0 >= 2.16.0 gobject-2.0 gio-2.0 >= 2.16.0 gio-unix-2.0 >= 2.16.0 libxml-2.0 telepathy-glib >= 0.7.31 libmissioncontrol >= 4.61 telepathy-farsight farsight2-0.10 gstreamer-0.10 ) were not met: No package 'telepathy-glib' found No package 'libmissioncontrol' found No package 'telepathy-farsight' found No package 'farsight2-0.10' found No package 'gstreamer-0.10' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBEMPATHY_CFLAGS and LIBEMPATHY_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details.
I recently wanted to build Empathy 2.31 from a source tarball (after having installed all the dependencies listed on the Empathy website).I got the following error while launching ./autogen.sh:
Code:configure: error: glib-compile-schemas not found.After some googling to try to fix this problem, I've found a thread on these forums. It was saying install libglib2.0-dev an then install (or remove) gnome-shell.I tried every solution I've found but nothing works, still got the error.Does anyone here succeded in compiling Empathy from source please?

Recently jumped from Ubuntu to Fedora 12 over the weekend, has been quite the bumpy ride. Though fun of course. But I'm having trouble coming to a solution for this problem, that started today. When signing into both Empathy or Pidgin (only with msn account) they both just hang on the white screen inactive... I say "inactive" the program hasn't frozen I just cannot be signed in. Also, in Pidgin at the bottom, next to where it shows your status, it has;
This is been going on all day. No MSN in Pidgin, and MSN on and off in Empathy. As always, I suspect Microsoft has something to do with this and wish I didn't need to use MSN. On the other hand, a laptop sitting next to me with Ubuntu connects with no problem.
On the 19/20th October (2010) MS appear to have changed something in their MSN servers and Empathy on F13 (v2.30.3) no longer connects. Instead you get a Red bar saying there is an error, bu no other real info apart from '500' network errors (not even in the logs).Discussion on the Ubuntu lists has confirmed + identified the culprit and a workaround has been posted. Cludos to 'Kakaroto' and 'Dennis Tring' on that list!
I'm running Fedora 11 on an x86-64 machine. I just updated everything with the little update button, and upon starting up again, got this error:
Code:
If I press Alt+F4, I get sent to a login screen. I did "sudo shutdown -r now", and got the same message.
Some googling shows that other people solved this problem by getting new network cable. However, my eth0 adapter isn't connected to anything! I use my wireless adapter, ra0, for networking. It uses special drivers from Ralink, so the update might have screwed that up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have Empathy running on Fedora 11 ( Dell Precision M6300 laptop). I downloaded some themes from [URL] after following some of the on-line instructions I still don't see the themes from within Empathy. I suspect I have the files in the wrong directory. What is the right directory to put the /*.AdiumMessageStyle folders?
In Fedora 13, Empathy 2.30.1-2 doesn't connect to Facebook Chat, giving just "Network error". Of course, I know that user must set his username in Facebook.
I have problem with Empathy Internet Messaging and my MSN. When I try to connect to MSN with my account I get message No reason specified and I can't connect. I need to say that I'm still total linux noob.
After doing updates a few days ago yumex stopped working. I started getting an error message when I try to run it, "no connected to a network". This is of course not true.
I've looked at yumex.conf and don't see anything wrong, and I downgraded the GTK2 packages from a post indicating a segfault issue with one of those packages.
yum works fine from the command line, so my system is fully updated.
I removed yumex and then reinstalled it with no joy.
After installing all possible backend needed to create accounts, I was able to create my yahoo account, but when I try video calling my friend how uses m$n on xp, I get the message "connecting....." but on my friend's pc It doesn't show that I'm calling him. Can I have video calls with contacts using another IM software using my yahoo account?
I can't send or receive any files with the Empathy Messenger in F12, using the MSN Protocol.The Menu Entry "Send File" in Active Chat remains grey.When my Friends send me files they ask me to accept the Download but I see nothing.
I have tried to migrate my empathy settings and chat history to another machine.I copied .config/apps/empathy .local/share/empathy .mission-control .gconfig/app/empathy...But the new empathy do not recognize these settings. What am I missing?
