OK So pidgin seems wonko at the moment so I tried to switch to Empathy.
When I try to login with both of my MSN accounts I get "no error specified" underneath a disconnected plug.
what this means or how to get MSN accounts working with Empathy?!
I recently wanted to build Empathy 2.31 from a source tarball (after having installed all the dependencies listed on the Empathy website).I got the following error while launching ./autogen.sh:

It was saying install libglib2.0-dev an then install (or remove) gnome-shell.I tried every solution I've found but nothing works, still got the error.Does anyone here succeded in compiling Empathy from source please?
I get error when I try to login my yahoo account. It seems okay with Gtalk, I havent checked the others because I use yahoo for most of time. It blows out network error no matter how i try: killall tempathy-butterfly (it's probably not running on my system, I've tried with killall telepathy-haze,salut which are running and having relative with telepathy ), edit host file, change the server name by adding cn before it. But it's still no go up to now.
My alternatives are meebo or wine and trillian, worked, but is there any chance for Empathy or Pidgin (it gives me error: connection refused)? It's just happened for 3-4 days recently, i dont know whether my network has configured right or not. Hope someone give me a hand which should embarrass me to continue living in linux bug world.
I am using a wired connection ( ethernet cable ) and everything works just fine except Empathy.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get video calls to work using Empathy 2.30.0. I'm running the 10.04 beta right now, but I've had this problem ever since I installed Empathy. The problem is essentially that I don't even see the option to do a video call with my contact. I can do an audio call, but the option to do a video call is greyed out.
My webcam is built-in (the computer is a Dell Inspiron 1545n). I know that it _can_ work under Linux, as I regularly use Skype. Also, just after I upgraded to 10.04, I briefly had the "video call" option, but when the program crashed I tried to call, and then the option was gone again. What was strange is that for a little bit, before it crashed, my webcam was working, and I could see the image it was receiving. So it can't even be that Empathy just can't use my webcam.
Does anyone know anything about this problem? Everywhere I've looked says that Empathy should be able to make calls using GTalk.
I'm am successfully adding my gmail account to both empathy and pidgin (it shows up in green that i'm 'available' on my computer). However, I am unable to send or receive any messages. On empathy it just says there was a network error - unknown, and pidgin say there is an xmpp message error code 404.
I've been trying for months to get IM working with my gmail account.
i'm trying to use video call in skype or empathy, either is fine. Neither works. In Skype I can receive video but it doesn't broadcast mine at all. In empathy it shows my video right up to the second the call connects, then the 'video call' crashes.
edit: cam is definitely working (works fine in cheese and other cam apps) just not broadcasting

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 in a HP Pavillion dv7t Laptop. The webcam in the laptop is working fine, but when I try to place a video call to gtalk from Empathy it gets disconnected immediately. The regular chat and the audio calls work fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.04 (i686) on Acer Aspire 5551G. This laptop has Realtek ALC272 sound chip. Both sound and microphone work fine. But, when I start video/audio call in Empathy the microphone dies until I reboot the laptop (sound continues to work). The same happens with Pidgin and Ekiga. So, I can't make video/audio calls. I believe this is pulse/alsa bug.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi have a gnome debian squeeze fresh install. this new release is perfect except for one problem i am having. the sound will not work in empathy when i receive a message from somebody. i have it set to do this in the settings and i am sure that my sound works because i was watching videos before. when i run alsamixer, all of my channels are not on mute. is there a package that is missing from my system that i might need? i tried researching this but i could not find any help.

I've scanned a document with OmniPage on a Windows PC; I've saved the images as black and white png and I can open them on Windows, but on Ubuntu Eye of GNOME gives me (for one image only) the critical error �PNG: Decompression Error� and doesn't open it, while Mirage, GIMP, GQview and F-Spot show an empty image. Sometimes Empathy is not sending my messages to my contacts on MSN. There are no warning messages of this, so it's really annoying. I have to disconnect and reconnect to MSN to resolve the issue. After the bug occurs no message is sent to that contact, but I can communicate with others.
In my case I see no correlation between the length of the message and the bug occurring, it seems to appear randomly.
I am using Empathy 2.30.0.1 on Ubunutu 10.04 RC
i've never been able to use empathy.for some reason, i just can't add accounts.i've messed with it a lot in karmic, but gave up. running lucid now and added a profile for my wife. interestingly, she has no problems using empathy so i think there must be something going on with my settings.i've searched and searched and removed everything i could find that was empathy-related, but no luck.
