View 5 RepliesI booted my Fedora 13 live CD on my Dell server, and configured networking and SSHd. On my desktop I logged into the live cd and started copying over a big file (1.5 GB) (i.e. copying from the desktop computer to the server). After copying about half the fil, the download fails with an error message about the filesystem being read-only.I've seen this exact same behavior on both i386 and x86_64 of the same live CD, but don't know why it's happening. I've also had the same issue when copying small files. In /var/log/messages these messages are repeated many times:
Code:
Dec 20 12:32:23 localhost kernel: Buffer I/O error on device dm-0, logical block 684075
Dec 20 12:32:23 localhost kernel: lost page write due to I/O error on dm-0

host A: Fedora 7 has bind 9.4.2
host B: Fedora 11 has bind 9.6.1
I want to migrate my bind configuration from A to B I've read the release notes and man pages and I can't see why copying
/etc/named*
and
/var/named/*
I checked /etc/sysconfig/named too... Seems to have no effect on my brand new install on Fedora 11. Host B stays basically un-configured.
I currently have three hard drives: (2) 150GB IDE drives (windows) and (1) 500GB SATA drive (fedora13). I'm trying to move files on the IDE drives to the SATA drive so that I only need the SATA drive. The SATA drive is running Fedora 13 and the other two were old NTFS drives that I just use for space now. So most of the files copied fine, however, for a handful of them I receive the following error:Error splicing file: Value too large for defined data type This happens when I try to copy files not only from drive to drive, but even from folder to folder on the same drive. I've read about a 2GB file size limit, but none of the files are that size. I have no idea why this is happening.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to use find and scp to copy files. Is there a way to copy files that have spaces in their names? I know you can add " tags for a single file but can find do that? This is the command that i use:
scp $(find -iname "*.avi") destination
I was told fedora is great operating system but all i run is into trouble, hours spend on searching for solutions and never get an easy answer as it is on Leopard or even windows 7.What's my problem. I installed a new dvd copy of fedora13, and now connected 2 USB hard drives that seem to connect fine, can access everything but if i try to copy files to one of the drives it says i don't have permissions, and the fields to change permissions access are blank.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Source folder contains 424.8 GB in 502,474 files. My Destination folder was created fresh, and after the copy contains 394.0 GB in 486.514 files. I am running it as grsync with root authority. The only options are to preserve time, permissions, owner and group., and to produce a verose output and transfer progress. There are no exceptions specified to skip any files.
The rsync command is this:
rsync -r -t -p -o -g -v --progress -c -l -H -D -s /mnt/Backups/monthly.3/ /mnt/EX-Fantom/monthly.3/
I have run it again to give it a chance to get it right. Same result. The source is in an rsnapshot folder, but this is the first backup, the original, containing only whole files, not links.
Why system lags so much while working with a lot of files or with big files (copying them, erasing)? How it can be solved? I am running Fedora 12 x86_64 with ext4 filesystem

View 14 Replies View RelatedI just bought a HP 3085dx laptop with an intel 5100 agn wireless card.
The problem: copying a big file over the wireless to a gigabit hardwired to the router computer only gives an average 3.5MB/Second transfer rate. If I do the same copy from my wireless-n macbook pro to the same computer. I get a transfer rate of about 11MB/sec. Why the big difference? I noticed the HP always connects to the 2.4 GHZ band instead of the 5GHZ bands...

I am not getting any errors. I don't know why the bit rate is not known. My airport extreme base station typically reports that the 'rate' for the hp is typically 250~300MBi and about the same for the MacBook Pro. The hp is about 6 inchs away from the base station. Is there anyway to get the rascal to go mo'faster? Is there anyway to get the rascal to use the 5GHZ band.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup my webserver and I am trying to make a website to run under suexec but somehow I cannot start my apache it directly fails and SELinux is giving me errors and don't really know what to do with it, it is giving me some command to type but not sure if this will make my server less secure. The SELinux error is as follow:
Code:
Summary:
SELinux prevented httpd reading and writing access to http files.
Detailed Description:
SELinux prevented httpd reading and writing access to http files. Ordinarily httpd is allowed full access to all files labeled with http file context. This machine has a tightened security policy with the httpd_unified turned off, this requires explicit labeling of all files. If a file is a cgi script it needs to be labeled with httpd_TYPE_script_exec_t in order to be executed. If it is read-only content, it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_content_t, it is writable content. it needs to be labeled httpd_TYPE_script_rw_t or httpd_TYPE_script_ra_t. You can use the chcon command to change these contexts. Please refer to the man page "man httpd_selinux" or FAQ [URL] "TYPE" refers to one of "sys", "user" or "staff" or potentially other script types.
Allowing Access:
Changing the "httpd_unified" boolean to true will allow this access: "setsebool
-P httpd_unified=1"
Fix Command:
setsebool -P httpd_unified=1
I will write down how I did setup my server so maybe you can see a mistake I did. First I changed my Apache httpd.conf I added the following to it:
Code:
NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80
<VirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80>
ServerName localhost
DocumentRoot /var/www/html
DirectoryIndex index.html index.html index.shtml index.php
</VirtualHost>
<VirtualHost 192.168.1.2:80>
SuexecUserGroup ulyaoth ulyaoth
ServerAdmin webmaster@ulyaoth.org
ServerName test.ulyaoth.org
DocumentRoot /var/www/ulyaoth/www/html
ErrorLog /var/www/ulyaoth/logs/error_log
CustomLog /var/www/ulyaoth/logs/access_log common
DirectoryIndex index.html index.htm index.shtml index.php
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /var/www/ulyaoth/www/cgi-bin/
<Directory /var/www/ulyaoth/www/cgi-bin/>
AllowOverride none
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
Options +execCGI
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
Then I created the username "ulyaoth" with the group "ulyaoth" as I specified with my suexec, then I created all the directories as specified in my httpd.conf and "chown ulyaoth:ulyaoth (dirname)" them to the right group and username.
I've discovered that Dolphin seems to lose random files when copying many large folders.
I first noticed this a few months ago when I tried to copy my music library from one folder to another on the same HDD. It consisted of around 600 folders and 6500 files. During the copy there were no errors but after the copy I found that some of the newly copied folders were missing files. I put it down to human error or a glitch.
Yesterday I tried to copy 13 folders containing rips of some of my DVDs. Each folder basically had one film of either 700MB or 1.4GB. Again no errors showed up during the copy but I found 3 of the newly copied folders were empty.
It's not so critical with music or films but I can't afford to lose work data like this.
Has anyone experienced or seen a similar problem with Dolphin? I'm going to have to do some more extensive testing but this is not good.
The first time I noticed the problem I was running KDE4.3.4 (I think) and now the latest was with KDE4.4.0.
I want to copy a file system with dd. Most of the forums and how-to's warn that the file system must be unmounted. Otherwise, data could be changing and inconsistent or, at best, there may be open inodes, and the copied file system would need to be recovered the first time it is mounted. However, is it sufficient if the file system is mounted read-only? Or does a file opened with read-only still result in an open inode?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot-up desktop system with Window XP and Fedora. Linux was installed after Windows came installed with the system. The system has only one hard drive and both the OS are on the same drive but on different paritions. Is it possible to copy the whole Fedora Linux parition to a new hard drive and then install the new hard drive on an entirely desktop to make it work like the old system? Will all the setting in Fedora remain the same? All the file and enviornment variables or the changes made will be retained on a new system? What to do? Which software to use?

I already have installed wine on the laptop and it is the same version of Fedora (14) as is on my desktop.
Is it possible to mass copy the entire desktop /home/username/.wine, and copy it onto the laptop?
Do I do the copy as user or as root? I need to get everything, the system files registery and ProgramFiles etc. and then copy it on to the lap top with exactly the same permissions.
So I would, for example, type tar -zvcp allWine.tgz /home/username/.wine/*.*
This usb crashes every time copying about 1,200 files of size 800k - 1.2m. Some right away and others randomly. Using the file manager and dragging the image folders from the USB to the local drive. Using SSH all the time on my home network. I use ssh-keygen and ssh-copy-id to generate and then copy the key file. On one of my computers I've changed the default ssh port and see no way to copy the key without reverting the configuration to port 22 temporarily. This is not a big deal and would probably take less time than it has taken me to type this message.

I mean something like blksize or like that?

I'm trying to find out which application will copy DVD discs (video and data) in raw mode. Something that works for DVDs like cdrdao works for CDs. I tried using cdrdao but it errors out because the DVD disc is too big for it. I tried looking at Brasero but I can't tell if it offers a raw option. I see that Brasero lets you copy a DVD to a RAW image, then burn the RAW image back to a DVD-R. If Brasero uses RAW mode to do a direct copy, this would essentially do the same thing, but I can't tell if that is what it does. But, I think this will work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of trying to move my files from a windows 2003 install over to fedora 12 using the Fedora 12 x86_64 Live image.
After some initial problems with burning the ISO image (had to enable disk-at-once to get rid of I/O buffer errors). And a GPF in the xor_sse2 module while building my software raid 5 arrays (forced to reboot, unable to stop or restart the array) I finally managed to create a single LVM volume group ontop of it all.
Initially I ran some tests on the raid volume and wrote a large 100GB file filled with zeroes all over it to be sure that it was functioning normally. After that I proceeded to copy files over from the NTFS volume to the LVM volume. which resulted in lots of errors on my terminal and complete loss of the entire filesystem. Even a simple ls -l / resulted in "Bus Error" although the system still kept running for a few seconds, until it finally froze and spontaneously rebooted. Since then I ran memtest to be sure my memory is fine, and tried alternative ways of mounting the volumes, and copy methods. Each attempt resulted in either a complete freeze or instant reboot. After 6 reboots, I managed to copy 20GB out of 490GB. Obviously this will take forever this way.
/var/log/messages is unhelpful. There are a bunch of cryptic messages regarding ATA bus errors (mostly CRC errors it seems) and soft resets when the LVM volume get mounted, but everything functions fine until I touch the NTFS volume.
Here are some of them:

I am doing a clean install of Fedora 13 XFCE4 spin from the live CD. Live CD boots and functions normally. Installation from Live CD works as advertised up to point where the installer starts to copy the disk image to the HD. Progress bar initially moved fairly rapidly then stopped and installations stalls.
I've tried the installation three times with the same result. I've seen other posts referring to problems with SELinux, but this should not be a factor here as the install is clean.
My USB ntfs external hard drive mounts fine when I plug it in and I can often copy files with no problems.However, I have some large folders on my machine (~10 GB with ~ 200,000 files) which begin to copy to the external drive but then stop with the error "Unsupportes operation while copying <filename>." The file currently being copied when this happens appears to be random. Does anyone know what the issue is and/or how to fix it?
