Fedora Networking :: Copying Authorization Keys?

Dec 12, 2010

Using SSH all the time on my home network. I use ssh-keygen and ssh-copy-id to generate and then copy the key file. On one of my computers I've changed the default ssh port and see no way to copy the key without reverting the configuration to port 22 temporarily. This is not a big deal and would probably take less time than it has taken me to type this message.

Networking :: Copying /var/named Files From Fedora 7 To Fedora 11 Does Not Configure Bind?

Aug 12, 2009

host A: Fedora 7 has bind 9.4.2
host B: Fedora 11 has bind 9.6.1

I want to migrate my bind configuration from A to B I've read the release notes and man pages and I can't see why copying

/etc/named*
and
/var/named/*

I checked /etc/sysconfig/named too... Seems to have no effect on my brand new install on Fedora 11. Host B stays basically un-configured.

Fedora :: Gnome Package Kit Authorization?

I'm having issues with the gnome-packagekit not working as a user. It runs fine as root but I don't want to have to login each time to run it.

The gnome-packagekit used to ask for root password but has stopped doing so. Anyone remember or have a fix for this?

The cancel button does not work either, I need to close with the X for the window...

Fedora :: Add / Remove Software Authorization Failed?

Whenever I try and add software through packagekit I get an error telling me that Authorization failed. I would assume that I need to enter my password before the install begins but the utility never asks for it. I am able to start package kit with sudo and it then adds the software but that keeps most of the packages from running as they were added as root.

Fedora :: Cannot Install Flash (Authorization Failed)

Jun 11, 2011

The short story: I am trying to install Flash, and get this error:

I tried from the terminal, starting with su and authenticating myself, then running the .rpm file, and I get this:

Code:
[jason@Jaslinfed temporary_downloads]$ su
Password:
[root@Jaslinfed temporary_downloads]# ./adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm
bash: ./adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm: Permission denied
[root@Jaslinfed temporary_downloads]#

The long story: I used to use Ubuntu religiously, but with the more recent updates it's become somewhat buggy, and too Microsoft-like for me, so I decided to try a different distro. I heard Fedora was supposed to be really good, so I went ahead and snagged it. I'm relatively familiar with Linux in general, but know nothing about Fedora specifically. So far I've just had a couple of minor issues (my panel crashes and then disappears, for example) but this one is kinda big. If I can't arbitrarily install software on a whim, I might as well be using Windows.

For the record, yum seems to be working just fine; I've already installed several other applications, but for some reason I cannot install Flash. I've tried from both Opera and Firefox, and again, I even tried straight from the command line as root, but still no luck.

In case it helps: Linux Jaslinfed 2.6.38.7-30.fc15.i686 #1 SMP Fri May 27 06:02:17 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

General :: F3 - F5 Keys Incorrectly Behaving As Audio Keys / Remap Them To Original Meaning?

Apr 17, 2010

I don't know if this is a configuration issue or a hardware issue, but I have a Kinesis Advantage USB keyboard and for some reason the F3-F5 keys aren't responding as they used to. They don't respond to anything and, when I tried using F5 on Emacs, it said <XF86AudioNext> is undefined, so I guess it's a weird mapping problem.

Any idea how I could remap them to the original meaning?

Networking :: Copying Files Over A Network

Jan 8, 2010

While copying a large amount of data between two linux computers I noticed strange behaviour. The network card activity (computer copying the files) would be dormant for 30 second to a minute and then flash rapidly for just 5 second or so. This repeated for the duration of the copying progress (approx 2 hours at a supposedly constant 5-7MB/s).

The share that I was copying to was via SSH using "connect to server" from the GNOME menu. I was expecting the see the network card activity light constantly flash. I wondered if someone could explain this strange behaviour that I have witnessed.

Fedora :: Input/output Error When Copying Files To Fedora Live CD?

Dec 21, 2010

I booted my Fedora 13 live CD on my Dell server, and configured networking and SSHd. On my desktop I logged into the live cd and started copying over a big file (1.5 GB) (i.e. copying from the desktop computer to the server). After copying about half the fil, the download fails with an error message about the filesystem being read-only.I've seen this exact same behavior on both i386 and x86_64 of the same live CD, but don't know why it's happening. I've also had the same issue when copying small files. In /var/log/messages these messages are repeated many times:

Ubuntu Networking :: Backup Software Not Copying Files?

Apr 17, 2010

Having trouble running backup software to network storage. (Ubuntu 10.04 Beta)

I mounted my network drive (a Netgear Stora) with curlftps (tried several other ways, but this is the only way that works). It shows up like a regular HDD which I can copy files to in the file manager, but when I try running backup software only the folders are copied.

I've tried several backup programs, some based on Rsync, as well as Rsync itself, but they all had problems. Dj Dup kind of worked and was able to copy files (archives), but kept dropping the ethernet connection instead.

CentOS 5 :: GDM Could Not Write Authorization File

Dec 22, 2009

On Monday i had Centos 5.3 with / and /home in ext3, with no problems (at least i don't remember any problem). But as I decided to use XFS (I have a SSD , and i use a 3D Modeling software called Maya , that it's quite sure it could take advantage of use XFS), i decided to create in my new Solid State Disk , that i recently bought , a swap , a / partition formated in XFS , and a /home partition in XFS too. Then I used a Live cd to copy the contents from the old HDD to the new SSD , using find and Rsync --> (cd /mnt/oldroot/ ; find . -xdev -print0 | rsync -avHx --exclude-from /mnt/rsync-filter . /mnt/newroot/)

Once done , i edited fstab,Menu.lst , install grub in the MBR and i had to use mkinitrd to load the XFS.ko so be able to boot with the new system. All worked fine , although i only could log with the root , my normal user could not log , and a error appeared : GDM could not write your authorization file. This could mean that you are out of disk space or that your home directory could not be opened for writing. In any case it is not possible to login. Contact system administrator. But i remember that prior to Copy all to the new SSD , and use XFS , all was fine, and i was able to log with my user.

So thinking that perhaps the copy did by Rsync was not ok , or something i decided to reinstall Centos, now in a partition in my SSD and try another time , but without using a /home partition neither a normal user ,only using root. The SSD had a Swap , a 32 GB XFS partition and the / of the new Install in ext3 (20 GB ).Once installed Centos 5.3 , I updated only Glibc , yum and Python packages (like said in Centos 5.4 Release notes recommends , but not doing the final yum update)Then i updated only the kernel , to have a XFS supported Kernel , and then i rebooted (I would update all once migrated to xfs)

Fedora :: Copying Files Between Sata (fedora 13) And Ide (windows)?

I currently have three hard drives: (2) 150GB IDE drives (windows) and (1) 500GB SATA drive (fedora13). I'm trying to move files on the IDE drives to the SATA drive so that I only need the SATA drive. The SATA drive is running Fedora 13 and the other two were old NTFS drives that I just use for space now. So most of the files copied fine, however, for a handful of them I receive the following error:Error splicing file: Value too large for defined data type This happens when I try to copy files not only from drive to drive, but even from folder to folder on the same drive. I've read about a 2GB file size limit, but none of the files are that size. I have no idea why this is happening.

Networking :: SSH Chaining (tunnelling) With Public Keys

Sep 30, 2010

I've been searching for a while in forums about the issue I'm facing but couldn't find anything clear, or at least my net search skills are pretty lame. I'm facing a problem with prompted user password in a SSH chain connection when using authorized_keys.

I have: (1) Client - (2) Server - (3) Testing machine (testing machine is connect to Server via usb network)I've created keys for Client and Server, and updated authorized_keys in host machines with the key values: Testing machine has Server public key, and Server has Client public key.Until now everything is fine, if I try to connect via ssh the user password prompt is not shown since public key is found in authorized_keys.

For example: from Client: Code: ssh server Works fine, no password prompt.from Server: Code: ssh testing_machine Works fine, no password prompt. But if try to do that from Client only: from Client: Code: client:$ ssh server Works fine, no password prompt.from Client: Code: server:$ ssh testing_machine Asks for password.Bellow the verbose output from previous ssh command:

Code: ssh -v root(at)192.168.100.2

Networking :: SSH Crashes On Login While Any RSA/DSA Keys Exist

Apr 9, 2010

My company uses (as do many others) a common set of keys between the development machines. This has always seemed to work until recently... now the presence of any keys (server-side) causes the SSH server to crash, and the client immediately gets kicked. The interesting part is that the ONLY clients who crash the server are the ones with the common keys. If you are an unknown host, then you are prompted with a login, and you can get in. From the client you see this:

Code:
[root@localhost ~]# ssh localhost
Last login: Fri Apr 9 14:36:44 2010 from jjinno.foobar.local
Connection to localhost closed.
And from the server (the same box in this case) you see this:
Code:
Apr 9 14:37:59 cld10-2 kernel: sshd[19967]: segfault at 00000000000000f0 rip 00002b0bafc8d65b rsp 00007ffffd836c90 error 4
