How can i do this? I have both clamav and Bitdefender scanner for unices and I need to scan a shared folder, but it seems none of the AV programs understand samba dirs (ie. smb://compname/sharedfolder/)
View 4 RepliesI installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?

I have used ubuntu in the past but had a lot of hardware issues with it and unfortunately moved back to windows (( BUT i have tried Ubuntu again and all seems to work great except wifi My wifi connection is sort of working because when i run SUDO IWLIST SCAN it does pull up all available networks. But in the network manager icon on the panel i left click but i see no networks and can't connect to anything. I WOULD LOVE TO keep Ubuntu and use it permanently but I must get wifi working or else this won't be possible.

This location need full VPN access back to the main office's network.Anyhow we have spent about 3 solid days attempting to make this work without any great success. View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried to decipher the info on the opensuse site about networked scanners but it's not clear to me and I don't see anything in the forum here that addresses the question, so here goes. My PC is an opensuse 11.3 box. My Epson CX9400 is attached to a Windows 7 PC at the other end of the house.
The PC's can talk and can access shared files nicely. It will print perfectly from the Windows box or the Linux box. It will scan perfectly from the Windows box. BUT I cannot scan documents from the Linux box. Have installed XSane and Image! Scan for Linux and neither one seem to find the scanner. I tried adding it manually in YaST and it doesn't seem to find it either.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have installed a new network multifunctional device Samsung CLX-3185FN using the drivers provided by the manufacturer (Samsung Unified Driver). The printing over the network works fine, I can administer the device using browser. The only problem I have is using scanner over the network. It works fine if I disable firewall, but is blocked with firewall enabled. I can not figure out which ports or port-range I must enable for this scanner. Do you have any information on this one or how can I found out the necessary ports to open?

If I can't get this sorted, I really can't use Ubuntu so pleeease help. I'm a complete newbie, as in, about 2 hours using ubuntu so far. Generally things are going well. I am trying to create a link to my windows xp workgroup where all my data is stored (I was surprised that linux could even see it!) I mounted a volume on the desktop apparently... that worked fine until I rebooted and it had disappeared. it was fairly annoying that I had to go back into the network and re-mount the volume. How can I get it to stay put, even after rebooting? I have limited to zero knowledge of linux/ubuntu so you may need to break it down for me.I tried using 'Storage Device Manager' as someone suggested but emmm I didn't understand a word of it. Likewise at work, I am usually on a wired connection but sometimes need a wireless connection. Can/does Network Manager let me configure a location with preferred adapter, etc and automatically switch or do I need to install something like Wicd? Now, I didn't configure the server myself, so I don't know what to do so that the mail server, the sites and the nameserver to work in the new location with a new IP.

I have an install of OpenSUSE (11.4) and I'm running vsftp. We have several companies already running scripts on their end to pull all the files out of a mounted Windows share, then delete the contents of that folder. What I'm needing to do is after the files are dropped on a mounted Windows share, I need to somehow connect to an FTP server at another location, send all the files from that Windows share, and delete all the contents from that share. And on top of that, I would like to have this happen everytime a file is placed in the folder or at regular 2 hour intervals or something like that. Can someone point me in the right direction to learn how to do this. I'm fairly familiar with OpenSUSE but this is beyond my knowledge, for now.

if you try to browse the web from the machine, or log in through a nomachine (nxclient/nxserver) session, it claims there is no internet conenction. You have to run System|Administration|Network and select the stored "Location" for our wired connection. There does not seem to be an option to make this (one and only) "Location" the default. If the machine is up and incoming connections are possible (samba & apache), surely outgoing connections should be working without extra fiddling?
The issue with nxserver (nomachine) becoming unavailable on a re-booted unattended machine (unless someone logs in AT THE MACHINE and runs System|Administration|Network) is causing problems for remote access.
In gnome-network-properties I've set up two proxy locations: default and remote.
It's a bit of a fag having to change between them via the gui depending on where I am. Can the proxy be changed by command line because then I can set up a script to use the right proxy automatically? - e.g. use remote proxy if my mobile is connected via usb.
Had a google but don't think gnome-network-properties has command line options so I might be approaching this from the wrong tack.
I suspect that I have viruses in my ubuntu environment.What to do now?

Anyway I am missing the possibility of writing manually the folder you want to go on nautilus using the Location bar. It was used to have some kind of icon which you can click and it switched between graphich breadcrumbs or the location of the folder and you could changed it manually, you know what I mean?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever I'm dealing with large numbers of computers that need to have identical windows installations put on them, I love using Symantec/Norton Ghost to image the NTFS partition (just making the .gho file the size of the disk I've used, instead of the 160/320GB full volume size), and then uploading it automatically to a windows share.I'd love to be able replicate this exact process with Ubuntu. I have one computer that's ready to go, and a few dozen more that I'd like to quickly get that same image on.
I've heard that there's a command called dd that can make disk images, but I'd really like some sort of boot disk that can allow me to make an image, save it, then run the boot disk on another computer to allow me to reconnect to the server and dump that image on that computer. Ghost 4 Linux doesn't have a network/server component, I think.even if such solutions cost money, I'd love to know if they exist or not.
