Debian Hardware :: Simple Scan Scanner Settings

Sep 8, 2015

I was wondering if there is anyway to adjust scanner settings less not plugging in a scanner with using Simple Scan?I recently found out (sadly) that I could change the DPI settings for document and picture scans when my USB wasn't getting the scanner.Gave a prompt notification bar above and asked me to select scanner (which I replugged it in) and was able to do the settings.Is there a shortcut or command I can use to trigger this any time I need to?

Debian Multimedia :: How To Change Simple Scan Preferences In Gnome Jessie

Aug 12, 2015

I had a hard time finding out how to change -- get to-- the simple scan preferences. There is no batten on the screen to open preferences window. I found two way to change the preferences on simple scan.

1. Easy way:
I found that when you run a program in gnome an icon of that application appears on top bar. If you click on that icon a window will appear and one of the items on that window is preferences, by clicking on that you could open preferences window, and change your preferences.

2. Hard way:
Go to applications and open dconf Editor
then go to org section click on it
then go to gnome section click on it
then go to Simple-Scan click on it
now you can change things

Fedora :: Scanner Light Goes Off After Each Scan

Apr 15, 2011

I'm using a scanner with Fedora. However, linux does something that is undesirable; It turns off the scanner light, everytime it does a scan, which the HP software, which comes for windows, doesn't do. The result? The light never warms up enough and all the images come with a blue tone on them. Only after using the scanner a few times, the light warms up enough and the images start getting their true colour.The question is, can I somehow force the light to stay on, even during scans, like it happens when I am using Windows? Or not? Anyone has ideas?

Ubuntu :: Failed To Scan / Unable To Connect To Scanner

May 14, 2011

Ok, so a few weeks back my 6 year old daughter wanted to scan a picture she had made for a school project, I hadn't used my AGFA snapscan e20 for years, Infact it had been in a box for more than 5 years.

anyhoo I thought I'd give it a go and with some doubt plugged it in. Much to my joy and my daughters joy it just worked, there was life in the old dog still So two or three weeks on after I've installed a kernel update as well as others on my daughters Dell Optiplex GX620 Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (2.6.32-30-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP), my multi operating system literate 6 year old has drawn another master piece and popped it in the scanner only to recive the following error from simple-scan

What I'd like to know is,
1, How do I remove the entry for the scanner in simple-scan (ahh the old reinstall never fails)
2, why am I getting nothing back from my tail
3,Why did it break in the first place?
4, how to fix it (if not with a reinstall)

Please help as I don't want to break the "My Dad can fix anything" illusion my daughter has just yet.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Scanner Hp Scanjet 3570c - Only Scan In Color

Feb 10, 2009

Whenever I try to scan documents (OpenSuse 11.1) with any of the available tools (such as scanlite, kooka, or xsane), I can only scan in color. Moreover, the result is basically unusable. I shows a turquoise background of differing intensity at various places. Why isn't there a possibility to scan black and white, grayscale, etc.? Seems like scanning still is a problem in Linux. I really don't want to have to "fall back" to M$-Windows for scanning, but that seems to be the only solution at the moment

Ubuntu Networking :: Simple Scan Cannot Find Lexpark All In One

Sep 30, 2010

I have a Lexmark interpret S405 all in one. I got it to work as a wireless printer with the downloads provided by Lexmark. I installed simple-scan (sane) to enable scanning. Simple scan works, since it sees another all in one printer in our house and is able to scan. In addition, simple-scan does work on the Lexmark when I hook it up with a USB cable. HOWEVER, for some reason simple-scan does not see my Lexmark, despite the fact that it is seen as a wireless printer. So, the following discrepancy is present

a) My Lexmark is recognized by my computer as a wireless printer

b) Simple-scan does work, since it recognizes and scans another all in one and it does work with my Lexmark when connected with a USB cable

c) Nevertheless Simple-scan does not recognize my Lexmark all in one wirelessly.
My question to this distinguished form is: How can I make simple-scan recognize my Lexmark wireleslsy?

My Epson V200 scanner allows normal resolution selection with Xsane or with Epson's iscan application.

Ubuntu :: Simple Scan Multiple Page Exposure

Jul 27, 2011

I have an interesting issue with simple scan. When I scan a single page document, the exposure is not very good because there are dark and light areas scattered over the entire document. Of course, one cannot adjust these settings in simple scan as one can with xsane. However, I noticed if I scanned a multiple page document, all pages after the first seemed to be more consistent and the exposure was fairly good (exposure here referring to all the aspects accessable in xsane such as brightness, contrast, gamma, etc.)

So I tried a little experiment. I scanned a single page document as if it were a multiple page document by scanning the document multiple times in the same session.The same thing occurs as if one were scanning a multiple document: the first page is mottled, but all pages after are much better scans. What is happening here?

Unfortunately I am not having the same luck with the scanner.

Security :: UFW Settings For Simple File Server

Dec 20, 2010

I would like to set the firewall in Ubuntu Server 10.10 up to be very secure but perform these tasks:

1. File server to windows 7 and windows xp machines both over ethernet and wireless via a router.
2. Print server for these 2 machines.
3. Auto backup these 2 machines.

So far I have set the server up with a static ip, do the 2 windows machines need static ip's as well? I don't need remote access to the server, only over the lan. I thought this may be all I needed to do:

Code:
$ sudo ufw default deny incoming
$ sudo ufw default allow outgoing
$ sudo ufw allow ssh
$ sudo ufw allow Samba
$ sudo ufw allow rsync
$ sudo ufw enable

But would this block auto updates to the server and auto backup of my files?

Debian :: Disabling The Nautilus File Scan?

May 18, 2010

Whenever I open a folder with the default browser (Nautilus), it does a quick scan of the contents. This is not a problem for normal folders, but it becomes one when a music folder contains several thousand files (I haven't yet tried with folders containing large amounts of non-music files). In such instances Nautilus sits there scanning and I can hear the hard drive seeking for a good while before it presents me with the contents of said folder. My music folder, for instance, contains some five thousand ogg files, and I have to wait *counts* a full minute before it displays its contents. I tried telling it to never count the number of files in the options, but it didn't help. So far, the only solution I've found is to use pcmanfm instead, which apparently does no scan and displays my music folder practically as soon as I click on it. Still, I like Nautilus more for everything else, so I'd much rather use that instead.
