Jun 14, 2010i just installed debian on one of my cvomputers that is more than 20 away from the wirless router router in the house and i can't get it to connect to thew internet via wifi i did this i went into system>administration>network and i sawmy wirless card and enabled it (a progress prompt came up for about 5 minutes) then i clicked properties and entered all of the information about my wirless router (i thought it would've scanned the area for any wirless ap) then i clicked okay and no dice, i went into the web browser and i get an error. what did i do wrong? how do i make it connect to the internet via wirless i have 2 wireless cards connected to this computer (sometimes linux doesn't kije the internal one so i connect the usb wirless card that i got)

Feb 13, 2011The upgrade actually went pretty well, except for what looks like a new "feature" to mysql-server-5.1. But I post here, because the issue seemed to be in "/etc/hosts" file. If it should really be somewhere else, feel free to move it. The problem is that I don't understand what this means. What potential problems do I have without a "127.0.1.1"? Or could this have been effected by some change to the "users" table in mysql? This mythtv server "musem" is my main machine, and is being remotely accessed by the Linux box next to my TV.

Mar 28, 2011I am writing a simple script which will transmit files over a serial connection. I have simplified the setup to test the solution, so the final configuration will be a bit more complicated.
Current setup:
1. 2 RS232 com ports connected with a null modem in between.
2. Open minicom on both
3. Put in 19200,8,N,1 as parameters
4. Open text travels both ways
5. Files sent over Zmodem transfer well.
Both serial adapters are USB, but I tried it also with real com ports, and same story. For simplicity, I will call one adapter "receiving" and the other "sending" to signify from which side I want to send the files through zmodem.
Then I close minicom on the "sending" site without reseting the port (I have also tried setting everything up with stty)

I tried googling but no solution helps. Please do not try to suggest to use minicom on both sides, because this is going to be an unattended process in the end.

Dec 14, 2009i was trying to use gnome and kde but i don't like them. I tried xfce and it seem to fit my needs but.My computer is used to be powered on for a weeks. While time passes, a process xfdesktop begin to use more and more memory and to free RAM i need to log out and log in again.
I tried squeeze yesterday on my virtual machine and it has 4.6 and seem not to have that bug, RAM usage is static(yes it still works when i write this and have memory usage 34492k, which is not changing for an hours of usage already), also 4.6 is MUCH better than 4.4.
i already tried adding squeeze to "sources.list" but i can see too many dependencies which should be upgraded if i install 4.6, i'm beginning to afraid it can crash entire GUI(or entire system, i can see there is libc6 required to be updated).

While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Jun 17, 2011I have this USB modem P300U(SIM600 chip based) which works fine under wind@ws because it has it's own driver, but the clever seller told me that it worked under Linux as well. It was with Redhat 8 but I couldn't get redhat 8 to download. And until now absolutely false.

Aug 28, 2010I just bought this usb wireless adapter. (I also have a mac using wireless here and it works fine.) I installed ndiswrapper and ndisgtk and then used it to open the .inf file on the driver cd that came in the box. It must have worked reasonably well because if I click on network manager, I can see a number of networks, including my own. However, when I enter the security key for my network the icon spins for a while and then it asks for the key again. I've tried repeatedly and it never connects. I am definitely entering the key properly because I re-entered it on my mac and it worked.

KNetworkManager is recognizing it (so I suppose it's not on Storage Mode), I can create the 3G connection and connect, but I can't navigate on any sites (ping gives "unknown host" for any IP). Also, the KNetworkManager applet doesn't show anything on fields "Name servers" and "Domains" (they are blank). Tried some instructions from the internet here and there, but didn't have any luck.

Jul 29, 2011I've just spent 2 days of extensive lurking how to solve this problem. Namely, i have ZTE usb modem, model MF626 T. The sofware provided with it works only under windows. What i tried first was to download hso.ko module (copied to the /lib/modules/`uname r`/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/). Then i downloaded hsolinkcontrol and HSOconnect. Unfortunately, i didn't get those /dev/ttyHS* ports that should appear. Only /dev/ttyUSB*. I blacklisted option module. Then changed occurences of ttyHS* to ttyUSB* in .py sources for HSOconnect. what i get is the popup interface GUI that has "connect" button disabled. Then i tried to set up connection via gnome-ppp. The usb modem was automatically detected as /dev/ttyUSB1. But when i supply telephone number that i got with the stick, i get message after "Sending: ATM1L3DT*99*" ->"no carrier found". Then i tried to copy the other two modules i found on the net-airprime.ko and usbserial.ko. I've renamed the option.ko and old usbserial.ko in order to use them later if needed. And also i've put in /etc/udev/rules.d/
some scripts i've found on net, used to mount and unmount ZTE modem. None of all that worked, and somehow i have the feeling i've messed up everything. What i just posted above is the sum of everything i googled out. I would be very glad if someone would help me out with this. I usually like to spend some time lurking and googling, but this is simply taking too much time...

Jul 2, 2010I'm using a Verizon/Nortel USB760 wireless modem (worker just fine in 13.0, got problems in 13.1). Using KPPP, I connect to the service, waltz around reading mail, news and LQ then disconnect and close KPPP. I let it sit for any length of time then open KPPP, connect and it can see the modem, attempts to initialize it and it just sits there - I have to unplug the modem and reconnect it to get it going again. /var/log/messages doesn't give any hints (everything looks normal I think) and nothing else does either -- the indicate light on the modem stays green and all that. I've tried ejecting it (nope) and whatever else I can thing of (which ain't much) including reviewing Changes and Hints, READMEs and all.
Is there some setting I may have missed or a USB rule or do I need to poke the thing somehow to get it going? USB-Modeswitch automagically figures out what the device is and does its settings (so there's no "conf" file any more - unless I really missed something there).
