OpenSUSE Network :: Setting Up A Venison Pantech UML290 Usb 4g Modem

I have just gotten a Verizon Pantech UML290 usb 4g modem. According to the following post at the verizon forum this is workable in Linux. 4G LTE Data-stick Mac/Linux/Windows-other authentication information. - Verizon Wireless Community I am using SuSE 11.3 x64. Some of the settings they call for I can't find where the configurations should go, APN, CID, Model? Further into this above post, there are examples of success in Ubuntu and Fedora.

Debian :: Getting Wireless To Work On Lenny?

Oct 3, 2010

I just installed debian lenny. I'm looking forward to getting some work done with it, and I'm learning loads. When I was installing it, the GUI screen showed me three network interfaces, so I chose wlan0, the wireless card, so it did pick it up?

I tried to configure it with the necessary information (I wrote it down on a pad) but it still wouldn't configure, so I said, continue with the install and do it later. When I got to the desktop I added a new network to in network manager and set the ESSID and password, but still nothing. Even a list of other networks don't show up.

So what do I have to do to get this working? Here are the stats:

Atheros Communications Inc. LAN Express AE IEEE 802.11g PCI-E adaptor.

General :: Debian Lenny Wireless Not Detected

Mar 16, 2010

I have been Linux user(Ubuntu)for about 3 years since my switching from Windows. Although I did not have any complain against it, I wanted to try Debian Lenny. I have already partitioned my disk and installed Debian. Everything worked fine according to my expectations except for one thing: wireless.I tried different things to get it works without result. The light indicator of my computer seems to be working but the Network Manager does not detect any signal. In Ubuntu the wireless is detected automatically even using the Live CD.

General :: Debian Lenny : How To Install Xfce 4.6 Instead Of Lenny's 4.4

Dec 14, 2009

i was trying to use gnome and kde but i don't like them. I tried xfce and it seem to fit my needs but.My computer is used to be powered on for a weeks. While time passes, a process xfdesktop begin to use more and more memory and to free RAM i need to log out and log in again.

I tried squeeze yesterday on my virtual machine and it has 4.6 and seem not to have that bug, RAM usage is static(yes it still works when i write this and have memory usage 34492k, which is not changing for an hours of usage already), also 4.6 is MUCH better than 4.4.

i already tried adding squeeze to "sources.list" but i can see too many dependencies which should be upgraded if i install 4.6, i'm beginning to afraid it can crash entire GUI(or entire system, i can see there is libc6 required to be updated).

Hardware :: USB Modem P300U Not Recognized As Modem Under Debian?

Jun 17, 2011

I have this USB modem P300U(SIM600 chip based) which works fine under wind@ws because it has it's own driver, but the clever seller told me that it worked under Linux as well. It was with Redhat 8 but I couldn't get redhat 8 to download. And until now absolutely false.

I have Debian with Kernel 2.6.32-5-686 I just want to send sms through this modem. It's not recognized as modem I'm frustrated because it's not useful for me if it doesn't work on Linux I looked for info but I can't make it work. What I get in my debian is:

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Hs2300 HSDPA - Wireless Modem ?

Except this little bit that has me bogged down. I am trying to get my HS2300 HSDPA wireless modem to work, but I am a little stuck here.

I found a post that I should get the HP-WMI module to load. That was a post on an older kernel and this guy mentioned that is should be included in newer versions of the kernel.

Modprobe did not deliver any results, however an "lsmod |grep wmi" delivered the following:

Obviously I need to look for hp_wmi, but so far I cannot get anything to work.

Debian Configuration :: Adding Compex ReadyLink NIC To Debian Lenny?

Nov 4, 2010

I have added a 10 Mbps network card to my SGI O2 MIPS workstation running Debian Lenny running the 26-2 kernel. The workstation already has an onboard NIC which is working fine.(eth0).

lspci -v shows ths card as:-00:03.0 Ethernet controller: Compex ReadyLink 2000 (rev 0a) Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 18 I/O ports at 1800 [disabled] [size=32] Upon googling I found out that this card is an NE2000 clone. I downloaded the latest 2.6.36 kernel sources and did the following:-

1. Make Menuconfig
2. Loaded an alternate kernel config file (my working kernel config file)
3. In DeviceDrivers->Network device support->Ethernet (10 or 100 Mbit)

I selected ASIX AX88796 as the help associated with this showed it as an NE 2000 clone. configured it to be a module and did make, make_modules and make_install. Edited /etc/Modules to load ax88796 and added an alias eth1 ax88796 to this file. copied the new kernel to the /boot and did a reboot, the machine booted up fine and udev -r showed the 2.6.36 kernel and lsmod showed ax88796 loaded. But, Iam not able to bring up eth1 using:-

ifup eth1
The error messages given are:-
SIOCSIFADDR: No such device
eth1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device

Networking :: 3g Wireless Modem Not Recognised

Actually, this device came with a software(for linux too) which makes calls and sms possible simultaneously while surfing. But while installation(from root terminal) i see a repeated trials of connecting to modem but it does not find the device(something wrong in installation), and the interface of the software also shows "No(U) Sim". Anyhow it doesn't bother me much if i m not able to avail the additional services( call and sms), but what i need is to make the modem recognisable so that i could configure the connection.

General :: USB Modem - Trying To Get The Wireless To Work

May 18, 2011

I am new to Linux and using Linux Mint 11 RC after trying Ubuntu, and Fedora. I am not new to computing having owned and written software for Amiga, and owned and built different Windows machines.

I have a E627 Emachine Laptop with an AMD TF-20 processor that runs a Athros Communications AR8132 Fast Ethernet Card rev c0 and the network controller is a Broadcom BGM 4312 802.11 b/g LPPHU rev 01. I have 2 megs of memory and this is the machine that I put the Linux Mint os on.

For days I have been trying to get the wireless to work. I have read everything I could find on the net and know that this machine has a problem with this. I also know that the drivers in Mint don't work even though they are supposed to. I was using Mint 10 which is the stable version and it had the same problem as did Ubuntu which I know is almost the same as Mint and Fedora.

I have decided after many hours that the way to go might be to install one of those thumb drives with a wireless modem built in, but can't find an appropriate Linux one that will work with my setup. Does anyone know if there is such a thing?

Slackware :: Connect USB Wireless Modem 13.1

Jul 2, 2010

I'm using a Verizon/Nortel USB760 wireless modem (worker just fine in 13.0, got problems in 13.1). Using KPPP, I connect to the service, waltz around reading mail, news and LQ then disconnect and close KPPP. I let it sit for any length of time then open KPPP, connect and it can see the modem, attempts to initialize it and it just sits there - I have to unplug the modem and reconnect it to get it going again. /var/log/messages doesn't give any hints (everything looks normal I think) and nothing else does either -- the indicate light on the modem stays green and all that. I've tried ejecting it (nope) and whatever else I can thing of (which ain't much) including reviewing Changes and Hints, READMEs and all.

Is there some setting I may have missed or a USB rule or do I need to poke the thing somehow to get it going? USB-Modeswitch automagically figures out what the device is and does its settings (so there's no "conf" file any more - unless I really missed something there).

Debian Installation :: Debian/Lenny On A Clamshell IBook?

May 3, 2010

I'm trying to install Debian/Lenny on a iBook clamshell. I couldn't seem to burn an install CD that the iBook would recognize, so I eventually copied the contents of the CD onto a self-powered USB drive and I can now get the iBook to boot off of that thru open firmware. However, when I get to the Debian installer main menu, it still won't read the CD, and apparently it does not have network drivers to install over Ethernet. Is there any way I can supply a driver for the ethernet interface (lspci reports that its a sun GEM ethernet interface) or somehow convince the installer to install from the content of the USB drive (which is a duplicate of what's on the installer CD)? Heck, if it'd be easier to get the Airport interface running to reach the Internet I'd be up for that too.
