My PC is P4 machine and it isn't a Ethernet interface. My router's driver CD includes usb drivers to windows 98, xp OS only. I want step by step guide to setup the internet connection in ubuntu. I'm from sri lanka and i using SLT ADSL connection.

I want to run this machine as a server, which is why I'm using commandline, but I haven't had any luck through the gui either. I've disabled NetworkManager and verified that it's not running. Aug 28, 2010I just bought this usb wireless adapter. (I also have a mac using wireless here and it works fine.) I installed ndiswrapper and ndisgtk and then used it to open the .inf file on the driver cd that came in the box. It must have worked reasonably well because if I click on network manager, I can see a number of networks, including my own. However, when I enter the security key for my network the icon spins for a while and then it asks for the key again. I've tried repeatedly and it never connects. I am definitely entering the key properly because I re-entered it on my mac and it worked.
I have attached a document with most of the information requested in the sticky.

Mar 28, 2010I have tried Mandriva and openSUSE. Both use module skge. I tried the drivers from D-Link but I cannot install them, I always get a error. If the drivers are loaded how come the card cannot connect to the internet? Has anyone ran across this and know what to do?
I was hoping this card was a card that would work out of the box. Does anyone know a good card that will work with linux out of the box? Does anyone know of a good wireless usb adapters that work good with linux?

Feb 1, 2010On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So
Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.

Apr 6, 2011I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. Nov 5, 2010I moved to Berlin recently and I got wireless internet through an access point. I'm supposed to use the laptop's built-in wireless netcard to access the internet. This usually works in windows (connection falls out from time to time), but I have yet to make it work in linux. I'm using OpenSuse 11.3 64-bit and the Knetwork manager. Most of the settings in the network manager are correct, but it keeps wanting to use system certificates for the server. By that I mean it keeps checking 'Use CA System certificates'.
So I can't choose the CA-certificate supplied by my internet provider. I keep removing the check-mark and pointing it to the 'hotzoneCA.der' certificate. I also got a 'personal' certificate, in lack of a better word. Its called 'jacob_collstrup.p12'. The Knetwork manager seems to accept the 'jacob_collstrup.p12' certificate, but not the other one.
I just put the certificates in a folder like this /jacob/home/hotzone/zertifikate/ I can see the network fine using the Knetwork manager, and the signal strength seems ok. Not too good, but it shouldn't be a problem. I might have messed up the system, since I first tried this guide, prior to experimenting with Knetwork Manager:

General :: Slackware Internet Connection W/ Intel 6050 Link Wifi/wimax Card
Feb 20, 2011I'm a Linux newbie. Used to use Ubuntu, but I switched to Slackware because I want to learn how Linux works better.
On my Samsung qx410 laptop, I can't connect to the internet. I went to the System Settings -> Network Settings and all the tabs there, but it wouldn't detect any connection, wireless nor wired.
I noticed that the kernel of Slackware 13.1 is out of date, so I tried compiling a newer one, but I couldn't get that to work.
I tried downloading this file: iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1.tgz but even after reading the readme, I had no clue how to go about installing it or even whether it was the right thing to install in the first place.
How can I get my internet working?

Networking :: Kubuntu - Can't Connect To The Internet But Can Connect To The LAN
Nov 12, 2009I've recently set up a local development webserver using Karmic Koala. I downloaded and installed the server version of Kubuntu and have the web server working.
The problem is that for some reason, I'm no longer able to connect to the internet. I can connect to my router, and other machines in my network can VNC into the server.
I'm using an wired connection to the router and have the server set up on an internal IP of 192.168.0.100. I used to be able to connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a load of packages etc before it stopped working.
The last thing I remember doing before it stopped working was that I installed Samba so I could share files with the other machines on the network (two Macs running Leopard and a WinXP laptop).
I got the share working - I copied a load of files to the server via the share, rebooted, and for some reason now I can't connect to the net (and other machines can't see the Samba share either.) However I can still VNC into the server.

Jul 31, 2011Just re-installed Bodhi. Ran update, dist-update, set up connection and connection still slow or timing out and reporting errors in 'iwconfig'. This is 3rd re-install of this version. Have also tried 3.0 kernel and pae versions of Bodhi. Cannot get this connection up to speed and without errors. Atheros chipset ar9271.
Sorry for weird subject line and opening paragraph. Trying to make it easy to find and browse in case this gets solved and can help someone else. Not being a Linux guru, I can only hope to help others through my mistakes and ignorance.
I followed instructions to update driver listed at Linux Wireless.
In addition to following the directions at Linux Wireless, I also downloaded the GUI Program to install ath9k_htc.
No luck. My connection reports 1M/s and is reporting "invalid misc:" errors in iwconfig.
I'm running Midori browser but apt-get and wget are also downloading slowly.
I'm connecting to a Zyxel 660 series router using WPA/WPA2.

Mar 26, 2011I've reinstalled Slackware 4 times today because of things I've messed up along my way, after upgrading the linux kernel I've had issues with getting back to desktop, so I'm on a clean slate right now with the exception of installing wicd. I need help since wireless is not working.. My wireless worked fine out of the box with Ubuntu,I don't understand why it is not working now... Using Slackware 13.1, Kernel 2.6.33.4

Ubuntu Networking :: Mount To Vista Needed For Apache - Symbolic Link Not Allowed Or Link Target Not Accessible
Apr 26, 2010I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

Now, for one reason i don't know, the internet did not connect to the internet. The progam display a message to uncheck the checkmark in the File Menu. After doing this, i refresh the system but it still not connect.
