Ubuntu Networking :: D-link Dwa 130 Can't Connect To Network / Sort It?
Aug 28, 2010
I just bought this usb wireless adapter. (I also have a mac using wireless here and it works fine.) I installed ndiswrapper and ndisgtk and then used it to open the .inf file on the driver cd that came in the box. It must have worked reasonably well because if I click on network manager, I can see a number of networks, including my own. However, when I enter the security key for my network the icon spins for a while and then it asks for the key again. I've tried repeatedly and it never connects. I am definitely entering the key properly because I re-entered it on my mac and it worked.
I have attached a document with most of the information requested in the sticky.

I have Windows XP with a gigaset adapter which connects to wirelessly to a Belkin router. I'm with Virgin Media.
I installed Wubi Ubuntu to try it out, and it all worked perfectly accept no wireless networks, not even nextdoors were listed.
It's enabled but it says it's disconnected. I have no idea what to do.
Is it recognizing my adapter?

I've got an oldish laptop which I've installed 9.10 on. I plugged in a D-Link DWA-140 USB wifi dongle to see if it can connect to my wifi router. It quite happily flashed it's light, and when I click on the wifi icon on the top panel it lists a bunch of wifi networks including my own. However, when I select my network and enter the passphrase it doesn't connect, and just keeps asking for the passphrase/key again

I'm at wits end...10.04 won't connect to a wireless network on my laptop, and that sort of makes it useless. What is the easiest way to revert back to 9.10? I have a dual-boot system with XP and I'd rather not have to start from scratch.

I can not get NetworkManager to handle my Huawei E220 usb modem. I have searched forums and tried a lot of things. I have just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to openSUSE 11.3 using zypper. It seems to work fine except that umtsmon stopped to work, so for now my laptop has no connetion to internet at all. Here are some information about my settings:
I have used usb_modeswitch to make the device a modem. Am I right if I say that usb_modeswitch is a one time command, or does it swap the setting each time it is called? Anyhow lsusb states that the device is a modem. (All the time.) code...

I'm trying to connect from my desktop to my router (Networl WGR614v6). It seems to recognise the card, but I can't get a connection. I want to run this machine as a server, which is why I'm using commandline, but I haven't had any luck through the gui either. I've disabled NetworkManager and verified that it's not running. Here's what happens:
Code:

I need to connect to my router using only CLI, specifying an username and password, preferably with a single command line, so it won't be interactive, 'cause I need to include the command in a script.

I tried to connect two ubuntu computers via crossover network. But sometimes they can connect and see each other and even ping each other and sometimes not!
Each time, each of my PC's can ping it's own IP address but may not ping the other PC. I tried to disconnect cable, reconnect, disable network, enable it again, change IP address, disconnect via Network Manager Applet, reconnect and... . But when one of them don't want to connect I can't do this anyway!
Anyone knows what must be the problem? Sometimes it took about many seconds to get them connected, and sometimes they can't connect for many hours.
I must add that I have an ADSL modem on one of two Ubuntu PCs that connect via another cable.

I have just bought a HTC Desire Z mobile phone, running Android 2.2.
It has a feature to allow, via the USB cable, use of the Internet connection on a PC so that the phone can connect via that, rather than use the 3G or wi fi when those are not available or not wanting to use them. I want to download lots of applications without draining my 3G data allowance.
I have searched via Google, and some people have said that it just worked for them. They plugged in the phone to their Ubuntu PC and they could use the Internet on the phone.
But I cannot get it to work. I am new to Android, and still figuring out the phone. In the Settings/Wireless & Networks, there is an option for Internet Pass-through, which is trying to connect but never does. Then it comes up with a message saying:
"Unable to connect to PC" and asks me to install HTC Sync software (which is Windows only).
Is there something I need to install in Ubuntu to get it to work?

I had Xubuntu 9.10 installed on my computer and everything worked fine, i could download and surf the net pretty fast, but all of a sudden i couldn't do this anymore. The adapter was still connected to the network but when i opened firefox it worked for 5 seconds and then it would not load any pages, and even synaptic couldn't download any packages, even though it was still connected to the network. So i tried to reinstall network manager but it didn't work, then something happened and i couldn't access my Xubuntu anymore so I decided to delete the partition and install Xubuntu 10.04. I still have the same problem. What should i do? I am sure it is not a problem with the adapter because it works on the Windows partition.

like to create symbolic links on our server which will work from any work station.I guess the problem is that they use absolute paths.Since the absolute path is different from each workstation, they don't work except for the computer on which they were created. Is there a way to make them use relative paths instead?

i just installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit on my desktop. i have a TP Link TL-WN321G (Ver 4.0) wireless usb adapter to connect to my wireless network (i used to use it with Windows XP).As expected (i'd read up a bit before installing Ubuntu), the adapter was autodetected - i could see my wireless network listed in the networks list dropdown, and lsusb showed it too.lsusb identifies "Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2070 Wireless Adapter"But i cannot connect to the network. When i select my network, it keeps trying to connect, but never succeeds in connecting.
i tried going through the forums for possible solutions, but most of them deal with how to get it working when the adapter is not detected, or when networks are not shown. Or they are for older Ubuntu versions.i use the same wireless network on my laptop (Ubuntu 9.04), and it has a WPA & WPA2 Personal security, with a password, which i've configured in the desktop as well.

All connections on my computer start loading and then hang: it happens when running apt-get update (a few repositories load successfully and then it hangs at a random one) and when loading web pages with the browser (it says "Connecting...", then "Waiting for....", sometimes some part of the page loads, and then it hangs).
This happens both with my wired and my wireless connection. It does not happen on Windows on the same computer.
Any idea on what it might be?

When I run the command make tried to run manually and change -L/usr/lib to -L/usr/lib64 most of the "skipping incompatible" library messages disappear except for "/usr/lib/libexpat.so: could not read symbols: File in wrong format." I followed this tutorial => https://help.ubuntu.com/community/OpenVPN
I'm working on ubuntu 10.10 OS
So everything is ok when i start the tutorial with my interface on code...
The only way I can make it work again is by setting the interfaces back to
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
>> then reboot
and after that put back the br0 settings in the interfaces en restart the network.

I believe I'm running Kubuntu 10.04, but don't quote me on that. Here's the version string from dmesg. When it resets it re-negotiates the link speed and I often end up with a 10Mb/s link and on some occasions a 100Mb/s. The configured speed for the link is 1000Mb/s full duplex using a preup ethtool command. I do not use NetworkManager but have the interface configured in /etc/network/interfaces.

I have installed Fedora 8 on an old PC to use as a home network and I am having trouble getting a Windows PC running XP to get through to the internet, but I am able to access the internet from the Linux box with no issues. I can ping the gateway on eth0 from the Linux box, but I can't ping it from the windows PC. I am able to ping the IP address for eth0 from the Windows PC. My internet gateway is a modem/router from Hughes net. I also have a Netgear router between the Linux box and the Windows PC, but there doesn't appear to be any issues because I can ping both NICs from the Windows PC. I have pasted my Linux NIC config below. code...

I've just got a TP-Link wn-851n PCI WLAN card, and the problem is that ubuntu can search for the network, but I can't join into the network after typing the password. I'm sure that it is correct as m Windows notebook is also using that network.
Taking a look in dmesg, and it start to loop this message after I joined the network.

I have only had a few weeks worth of experience with linux, so I'm probably considered a newbie at this but I felt like giving it a shot. I just configured my new Toshiba Satellite A505-S6969 to jaunty. Most of the transition is going well but I'm stuck with a few issues, one of which is getting my wifi to work. I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf
[Code]....
The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.
log from apache: [Mon Apr 26 20:39:42 2010] [error] [client 99.99.99.99] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/user1/pub_html/Music, referer: https://xx.xx.xx/~user1/music.html
The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

I recently fixed an annoying problem and I thought it would be nice to share my solution here. The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. It would not connect to the school network unless I explicitly told it to.irst, I'll describe the fix. If you're having this problem, you can this. Copy the following:
Code:
#!/bin/sh
case "$1" in
[code]....

I recently put Linux on a Thinkpad T40 I got. The wireless card works out of the box--I can see nearby networks. However, I can't connect to mine. network-manager would try (spin spin spin), fail, ask for the password, and then go back to the beginning and repeat indefinitely. This happened to me on a different computer, and on that one all I had to do was use wicd instead of network-manager. So I installed wicd, but it's not working either--it hangs at "Obtaining IP address".
I've found many, many threads with people who had the same problem, but none of their fixed worked for me.
I also tried to get wifi going manually, using this guide, but that didn't work.
