I just noticed that I'm downloading about 60KB/s but no connection is established according to "netstat -tup". I use fluxbox, no automatic updates and the transfer exist even after relogging of my user.
View 1 RepliesI am learning Linux and especially the scripting and server administration aspect. I recently installed TFTPD on a Debian Lenny box and was satisfied with the results. The only drawback that I could find was that a file had to exist before TFTPD would allow a transfer. I understand that this is standard practice however I was wondering if there was a way around this. I am using this TFTP server to backup configurations and IOS images on our Cisco devices in a private network. If there isn't anyway to do this is there a different TFTP server that I could install that would support this functionality. I have read the man pages without much luck and doing Google searches hasn't yielded many results. I really appreciate your help and if there is anything you need from me please let me know./etc/inetd.conf fileQuote:

I have had to revert my VM to a previous image (did something to screw it up) anyway I have to reinstall icedove into my VM and I noticed after doing: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install icedove that icedove can't seem to be found in the libraries anymore and simply wont install.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have two machines running SQUEEZE, both installed and configured within the same week (not simultaneously). Both get the users info from a NIS server. In one of the machines (named "corona"), users cannot login, neither locally nor by ssh, in the other one ("xxlager") there is no problem. Both mount the users home directories by NFS. I have not found much useful info in the web. /etc/passwd, /etc/group/, /etc/shadow, are equally configured. The only difference I have found is when I use getent. Using "getent passwd isaenz" on xxlager yields:
isaenz:x:1001:1001:User Name,,,:/home/isaenz:/bin/tcsh
but on corona the result is
isaenz:x:1001:1001:User Name,,,:/home/isaenz:
so the shell info is empty.
Checking /var/log/auth.log I see a message saying:
"User isaenz not allowed because shell does not exist"
But "ypmatch isaenz passwd" returns complete information for isaenz, both on xxlager and corona.
I am running a fairly new Debain Jessie stable installation with Xfce desktop. I need to use Xfce4 becuas the standard Gnome 3 does ot work when logging in with xrdp which I use becuase the actual box is headless.
I have an issue when starting synaptic. When I start it from the menu entry it just does not start. When I start from the terminal with

I get an error box "Unable to copy the user's Xauthorization file" At the same time I can see in the terminal window a message
"Error copying '/home/userxxx/.Xauthority' to /'tmp/libgksu-SwcIe0': File or Directory not found".
I assume it is related to that I use a rdp session to connect, but I am otherwise clueless.

I'm getting openbox up and running on squeeze. I performed a netinstall and did a simple apt-get openboxI need to modify a file called ~/.xinitrc, but it does not exist. I read that I can copy one over from /var/x11r6/lib/xinitrc, but the /x11r6/ directory doesn't exist either. I've installed xorg, but the directory still eludes me. A package search yields nothing useful. I am using the SLiM display/login manager, which I believe calls startx, which should theoretically generate the ~/.xinitrc file.

Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.
I have a 500gB USB drive connected to my laptop for backups and filestorage. But I can't get it to play nice with Midnight Commander. My transfer speeds max ut at 2MB/s wich is painfully slow when moving large files such as movies. Worker FM transfers the same files to the same drive much MUCH faster (not sure by how much, though). This leads me to the conclusion that the problem lies with MC.

I have transferred those with less than 2GB (that is the size of my usb-flashdrives) to my netbook (with opensuse-11.3 OS) with the help of usb-flashdrives. I can trasnfer files of any size, with scp, from the desktop to the laptop; on the other hand, I can transfer small files (a 4,0K file, for example), but not files with some tens of megabytes, from the laptop to the desktop.
When I try to transfer a big file, the transmission starts at normal speed (around 2 mb/s), and then it slows down, and the message "stalled" appears where the remaining time was.
I am trying to transfer a files from my linux to my windows 7 virtualbox but how to do it. I installed samba as a server and bridged the virtual machine to my physical LAN but i just don't know how the real transfer is achieved...

View 4 Replies View Relatedusing Slackware 13.0, and whenever i trasfer my files to USB, like copy or cut and paste, it will show as if file transfered in an instant,like click paste and poof.the whole 1 gig file transferred in one second, and it wont show dialog box of transfer process, and then i have to predict some minutes and wait (till the transfer actually finishes, i have to usually see my USB's transfer indicator light), if i plug out before or my prediction goes wrong, i end up with corrupted files. This aint related to window manager, as same is case for KDE and XFCE tried thunar, konqueror, midnight commander, all of em resulted with same problem.

2. Between Windows computers, I access shared directories simply by \hostnamesharedmap or \host_IPsharedmap. Between Windows and linux i use SAMBA. But there must be a simple way to copy 2 files between linux hosts?

I have a new smartphone with Cyanogenmod 12 (based on Android 5) and a new ext SD card in the phone which has been formatted. I turned on "USB debugging" in Android and connected the phone to Debian KDE with a USB cable. The phone shows up and mounts, and I can browse the files in Dolphin and copy from the phone to the desktop, but I can't copy from desktop to phone or modify the contents, even on the ext SD card. In Dolphin I always get the same error message, "writing to camera is not supported", even though I mounted the device as MTP* (not PTP) and even though I'm trying to write to the ext SD card which is not even where the phone camera stores things.
I chose to mount as MTP within Android. I don't know if I also need choose an MTP option within KDE somehow, or how to do that.
I have just begun using Debian Kwheezy and I'm also a newbie to Linux. My question is, how do I create or transfer folder icons to the desktop? Kwheezy's way isn't the same as most distros I've used.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a lenny system up and running, my CF-card reader is supported and I can mount a 1GB card. My PC _can_ boot from CF cards, I verified... My Linux resides in sda3 (other partition is XP). How would I transfer the partition to a cf card? I tried using dd if=/dev/sda3 of=/dev/sdb1, but as that doesnt work I have the feeling there's more to do... Maybe install GRUB on the CF-Card? Change some paths after copying?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Debian over Kali since in order to use steam, newest version of wine and a few other things causes a change reaction that would require about two-thirds of my main os re-written with non kali files which makes me a little uneasy.
I have downloaded the debian-live-7.8.0-i386-gnome-desktop.iso from torrent from the link from debian download listings at debian.org. and I put it on a 8gb flash drive formated with gparted to a bootable fat32 partition and is listed as being /dev/sdc I installed the iso to the drive uss dd using the following code

now it boots to the flash drive just fine with only the gnome3 drivers loaded by the live os isn't fully functional with my system. Ie. when I log into any of the live modes it gives me a message that it was switched to gnome3 [fallback] I am using the current version of gnome3 desktop manager installed from source on kali with out any trouble.
Also when I click the graphical installer or the installer modes from the grub i get a background image with some sort of artifiacts in the top inchish of the screen then everything but the mouse freezes. But when I go into one of the live modes and click the installer in their it opens just fine but when it starts transferring files it says that it couldn't transfer files from the cd after all the language and localization screens at the beginning.
I did find a misc page on the internet involving a cruchbang with the same problem [URL] I went to the folder in the usb drive in question and it looks like since that was originally post something has changed or it could have been a crunchbang format.
So basically I am asking did I do a step wrong should I try a different way of instillation, or do I have a corrupted image? also I am unable to use disk media due to the type of drives and disks I have access to.
Last month I installed (not upgrade) squeeze in place of lenny on my dual boot laptop where the other OS is windows 7 Home basic (both C and D drives). I just noticed it today that while I can get any file from the windows to my squeeze I am not permitted to put any file to windows. As far as I remember I was not asked during squeeze installation whether the windows drives would be read-only drives. This difficulty was not faced when I had lenny. Can this problem be remedied now without going through a re-installation?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI pulled the MicroSD card out of a non-working Android phone to backup its data onto my Debian system. My Desktop is Cinnamon and I was simply using copy/past from within Nemo. The files began to be transferred but during the transaction a dialog popped up declaring an input/output error. From that point on the card was not readable on my system.
I initially plugged the card into the computer via a USB card reader. I later tried using an SD card adapter and plugging it in my printer's SD slot. Still the system would not recognize the card. I also tried plugging the card into another Android phone. The phone could not read the card and attaching the phone to a computer did not recognize the card either. I then logged into a Windows 7 system but it could not detect it. The partition manager always showed the USB drive or SD slot as "device not connected". The last thing I tried was putting the card, with the SD adapter, in my camcorder. The camcorder prompted to format but failed to do so.
I would like to recover the pictures and videos off of the card but I am afraid that there may have been hardware failure on the card's controller. I have been searching around most of the day trying to find a solution but nothing I have tried has rendered it detectable on any system. If it is controller failure, need repairing or recovering data from physically damaged SD cards?

i am trying to transfer a file from my live linux machine to remote linux machine it is a mail server and single .tar.gz file include all data. but during transfer it stop working. how can i work and trouble shooot the matter. is there any better way then this to transfer huge 14 gb file over network,vpn,wan transfer. the speed is 1mbps,rest of the file it copy it.

I'm having a strange problem with data transfers between systems. I have a file server + my desktop. Both are running Debian 8.3. I have a samba share running on the file server and I mount the shares on my desktop on boot via /etc/fstab
When I copy a file using the nautilus from my home folder (on my HDD) on my desktop to the mounted network location, my transfers start out at gigabit speeds 80MB/s-90MB/s for a couple seconds and then drop down to about 8MB/s
But when I terminate the transfer and then use scp to transfer the same file, I get consistent gigabit speed throughout the transfer. I am not sure what is going on.
