Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Transfer Songs And Podcasts To Mtp Player?

Apr 3, 2010

I recently installed Amarok v2.3. My Sony Walkman shows up under local collection and I can play songs directly off the Walkman. HOWEVER, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how I am able to transfer songs or podcasts from my laptop to the Walkman (akin to the old system where you'd right-click on the item you wanted to play and select queue to device, or whatever it was).

Ubuntu :: Cannot Add Songs To An IPhone 3G?

Jun 9, 2010

I've just today received my copy of Ubuntu 10.04, and I have to say so far I'm loving it a whole lot more than Ubuntu 9.10. However I am having one problem with managing my iPhone 3G. The device shows up in Rhythmbox, but I am unable to add music to the iPhone library.

I'm using the iPhone 3.1.3 firmware, so I know that's not an issue. Has anyone got any idea as to how to solve this?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Transfer Songs To IPod - "read Only" File Error?

Aug 11, 2010

I use Rhythmbox to transfer songs to my iPod (nano 1st gen). I installed Mediatomb the other day so I could stream music and video on my PS3 (which is awesome btw). Unfortunately, using Mediatomb my PS3 would only find a small portion of my music collection. So I ran Code:sudo nautilus then right clicked on my music folder, and changed the Group category to "Create and delete files" under the Permissions tab. After, my PS3 found my entire music collection. Great. But now in Rhythmbox I get an error about the mp3 files being read-only and can't transfer them to my iPod I've tried reversing the steps (with and without 'sudo'), but no luck. Under the File Access section of Permissions, I can never change anything (like to "read only" or "read and write"). No matter what I choose it always stays at "---"

Debian Configuration :: Slow Transfer Speeds On SAMBA Share But Gigabit Speed On SCP

Feb 12, 2016

I'm having a strange problem with data transfers between systems. I have a file server + my desktop. Both are running Debian 8.3. I have a samba share running on the file server and I mount the shares on my desktop on boot via /etc/fstab

When I copy a file using the nautilus from my home folder (on my HDD) on my desktop to the mounted network location, my transfers start out at gigabit speeds 80MB/s-90MB/s for a couple seconds and then drop down to about 8MB/s

But when I terminate the transfer and then use scp to transfer the same file, I get consistent gigabit speed throughout the transfer. I am not sure what is going on.

Debian Multimedia :: Restarting KDE Break A Simple Script

Aug 21, 2011

Just need some quick direction with this, as I have no idea where to begin:I run irssi in screen, and have a simple script that uses notify-send when I am private messaged/hilighted/etc. It works fine, and makes KDE pop up notifications like any other stuff does. However, if I restart KDE with /etc/init.d/kdm restart, the script fails with (every time it is triggered):

Restarting irssi doesn't fix this, the entire screen session has to be dismantled. Is there a way to fix this, or at least a place to start? It's a perl script, but I have no idea where to begin. I guess on a high level, some sort of ID is changing, but is still referenced by screen?

Debian Multimedia :: How To Change Simple Scan Preferences In Gnome Jessie

Aug 12, 2015

I had a hard time finding out how to change -- get to-- the simple scan preferences. There is no batten on the screen to open preferences window. I found two way to change the preferences on simple scan.

1. Easy way:
I found that when you run a program in gnome an icon of that application appears on top bar. If you click on that icon a window will appear and one of the items on that window is preferences, by clicking on that you could open preferences window, and change your preferences.

2. Hard way:
Go to applications and open dconf Editor
then go to org section click on it
then go to gnome section click on it
then go to Simple-Scan click on it
now you can change things

Debian Multimedia :: Gdm Simple-greeter Config Fails, Squeeze Amd64?

Jul 1, 2010

I want to set the login to the old default of having to enter a username, password. I've tried to use the configuration editor to achieve this and have ticked the "disable-user-list" option under /apps/gdm/simple-greeter but it makes no difference, the greeter still starts with a user list. It appears that the default valuef TRUE for this function is overriding my choice, but I'm notre why. My next step appears to be to edit /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults to change the default value. I haven't actually tried that yet so not sure if it would work but, even if it does, it doesn't seem a very elegant way of setting this up. Is there some simple way of changing the behaviour back to asking for username first?

I seem to remember the whole login process as being more configurable than it is now, with options to choose backgrounds, allow root accest finystem->administration->login_screen only gives a choice between selecting a user or automatic login of a particular user, with no further options available. On a general note, would the old method not be a more secure default than presenting an unauthorised user with a list of login id's to be tried?

Debian Multimedia :: Can't Transfer Files From KDE To Android 5 Via USB

Aug 26, 2015

I have a new smartphone with Cyanogenmod 12 (based on Android 5) and a new ext SD card in the phone which has been formatted. I turned on "USB debugging" in Android and connected the phone to Debian KDE with a USB cable. The phone shows up and mounts, and I can browse the files in Dolphin and copy from the phone to the desktop, but I can't copy from desktop to phone or modify the contents, even on the ext SD card. In Dolphin I always get the same error message, "writing to camera is not supported", even though I mounted the device as MTP* (not PTP) and even though I'm trying to write to the ext SD card which is not even where the phone camera stores things.

I chose to mount as MTP within Android. I don't know if I also need choose an MTP option within KDE somehow, or how to do that.

Naturally i tried, resulting in a music library with all the album artwork mixed up. I've tried to sync a couple of times, even added the repository for libimobiledevice and searched for the newest version (said it was already installed). When trying to sync with banshee (or rythmbox), it says syncing on my screen and on my iphone's screen. After syncing, my iphone updates the library, no new music is discovered. I can also add that banshee discovers 100 extra songs on my iphone.

Ubuntu Networking :: Slow Transfer To Mounted CIFS Share?

May 2, 2010

I have a Hitachi SimpleNET adapter (entry-level NAS device) on a Seagate FreeAgent 1TB external HDD (formatted ext3). The NAS device is connected over 100MB/s ethernet to a Netgear Wireless G router. All other devices connect using Wireless G. The NAS runs embedded Linux on an ARM processor and it runs vsftpd and Samba for file transfers.

If I transfer a large file using an FTP client the transfer maxes out at around 2.5MB/s. For my purposes that's good enough, especially considering the Wireless G bottleneck. If I transfer a file from a Windows 7 client (using samba) I get around 2.2MB/s. I know the CIFS protocol has more overhead than FTP and the difference in speed isn't that noticeable.Any combination of Ubuntu and Samba results in me getting less than 1MB/s. I've tried mounting it through Nautilus (GVFS) and /etc/fstab. FTP from this same Ubuntu client gets around 2.5MB/s.

I don't have root access on the SimpleNET to change the smb.conf. I've made a few adjustments to the mount options with no success. how to either speed up 10.04 as a Samba client or mount a folder on an FTP server locally? I've tried both curlftpfs and FUSEFTP. With curlftpfs any write operation results in an I/O error and it crashes intermittently. With FUSEFTP I never got that far and couldn't even browse the folder.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Songs Won't Play In Some Apps?

Feb 26, 2010

I'm running OpenSUSE 11.2. My sound has an issue, it must be played through PulseAudio. Phonon or whatever the default is kept dropping the ball, so I made PulseAudio the default sound server by doing:

setup-pulseaudio --enable So now, I get something as opposed to nothing. But Amarok still wasn't playing my songs, even after telling it to prefer PulseAudio for all outputs under Settings>Configure Amarok>Playback>Configure. I hit "Test" and the sound played. But it wouldn't play any songs from my music library. So I navigated there in Dolphin, found a song, right-clicked, and decided to Open With every audio program associated with it. Banshee and Mplayer worked. Kaffiene, Totem, and Amarok did not (though I could see that Amarok at least queued it up). What gives?
