Slackware :: No Transfer Process Shown During USB Transfer?
Jan 20, 2010
using Slackware 13.0, and whenever i trasfer my files to USB, like copy or cut and paste, it will show as if file transfered in an instant,like click paste and poof.the whole 1 gig file transferred in one second, and it wont show dialog box of transfer process, and then i have to predict some minutes and wait (till the transfer actually finishes, i have to usually see my USB's transfer indicator light), if i plug out before or my prediction goes wrong, i end up with corrupted files. This aint related to window manager, as same is case for KDE and XFCE tried thunar, konqueror, midnight commander, all of em resulted with same problem.

Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.

About NFS.
Server:
Client(s):
Code:
I have followed Robbie Workmans' HowTo [url]
Reading and writing works absolutely fine with small files but large files are tediously slow in writing to the server. (rw,no_subtree_check) are options in exported directories.
What is your experience with NFS and how can I speed up large file/folder transfer(write) speeds?

My friend bought an old hard drive. He noticed something with the hard drive that it was just replaced with a SATA socket. So meaning, the SATA socket was soldered to the PATA hard disk to replace the PATA socket to SATA socket to make it a SATA.
Now the question is:
1. Does the Transfer Rate of the harddisk (that has been replaced from PATA socket to SATA socket) would be SATA transfer rate? OR would still be PATA transfer rate?

I have a Iomega Prestige 1TB harddrive bought it half a year ago, but now I have a problem copying anything from it or to it. When copy something to the harddrive the copying window pops up, and when the green progress bar fills about 9/10 of the bar it stops, and another window pops up saying "can't read from the source file or disk", and below it the description of the file and two buttons "Try Again" and "Cancel", but for most of the files the green progress bar in the copying window doesn't even show, and a green small bar just keeps going from left to right without starting the copying, this stays for about 15 minutes then the "can't read from source or disk" pops out. I can't copy or move anything to it or from, and right now my computer's HD is full so I really need the External HD.

im running fedora 12 and am relatively new to linux..i have been unsuccessful researching this issue.a complex task for an otherwise simple question.perhaps the phrase is not native to linux but the operation is universal.how to transfer filesr move files from one location to another.on windows there was a tweek i found that added an option to the context menu "move to".it would physically move the file.any file to any location.fedora has "send to" but leaves the original and may not be the correct method.fedora also has copy/paste but does that duplicate or merely produce a copy?i want to transfer or move video files both small and large and audio files as well.i want to move them from one hd to another.code is possible but would prefer a more manual solution such as an application or context menu option.perhaps copy/paste would be legit enough for linux and i can see why.but for windows copy/paste and "send to" were considered sub standard methods of file transfer.

But anything I want to copy from remote machine to local machine by gui, is showing 'path not found' error. CLI work just fine but is it possible to transfer files between remote and local machine by gui over ssh?

Machine A holds important source data that needs to be backed up. Machine B is where the data will be backed up to.They're both Ubuntu.I want to have an automated process that allows machine A to create an encrypted tarball and copy it to machine B, without human intervention, but doesn't allow anything except copying the file over to a target directory.I thought about using a chroot jailed account, but this seems to be a pain to set up and overly complex. I really just want to be able to have machine A to copy files to machine B, via automatic cron, but I also want to prevent the mechanism that allows the copy from allowing any other actions (copying to any other directory, logging in, executing any other commands noninteractively, etc.). Also, the transfer must be encrypted (e.g. using ssh somehow).

I just transferred some 300mb worth or music, and I was shocked to see it going so fast! I have some really old generic mp3 player, it was reading at 6mb/s (thats mega BYTE not BIT) and write at 2.2mb/s, sense when was usb2.0 this fast? But when I try to benchmark it with the disk utility I get an error:
Error benchmarking: helper exited with exit code 1: Device /dev/sdb is too slow to benchmark
I benchmarked my TB hdd, and I got 139mb/s! on 10.04 I got only 70ish. What did they do that's so different? According to [URL] 2.0 max speed is 480Mbits/second so that 60mb/s (member this is theoretical speed, real world speeds are nothing like this XD), I have never got that, the max I have ever got before this was 2mb/s read.

Is there a device that would allow me to transfer files from my old IDE hdd to a new SATA hdd? My computer died (motherboard, possibly ram and psu) with my files trapped on my old IDE hdd. I do have a backup on DVD, but it is a little old. Thus, I would like to get the current files on the IDE hdd and either transfer them to a SATA hdd or burn them to DVD.

I need to create a program that has both a server and a client and can transmit PDF and text files between the two using UDP as the underlying carrier while behaving as if it is TCP. We have successfully created a UDP program that can simply transmit strings, but we are not really sure on how to transform this code to do files. We know that we need to use a buffer of some sort to transmit the file in pieces.
Code:
//dg_cli.c
#include "unp.h"
#include "sys/socket.h"
#include "string.h"
#include "stdio.h"
#include "stdlib.h"
#include "arpa/inet.h"
#include "netdb.h"
#include "sys/file.h"
#include "sys/types.h"
void dg_cli(FILE *fp, int sockfd, const SA *pservaddr, so
{ int n;
char sendline[MAXLINE], recvline[MAXLINE + 1];
while (fgets(sendline, MAXLINE, fp) != NULL) {
sendto(sockfd, sendline, strlen(sendline), 0, pse
n = recvfrom(sockfd, recvline, MAXLINE, 0, NULL,
recvline[n] = 0; /* null terminate */
fputs(recvline, stdout); } }
Code:
//dg_echo.c
#include "unp.h"
#include "sys/socket.h"
#include "string.h"
#include "stdio.h"
#include "stdlib.h"
#include "arpa/inet.h"
#include "netdb.h"
#include "sys/file.h"
void dg_echo(int sockfd, SA *pcliaddr, socklen_t clilen)
{ int n;
socklen_t len;
char mesg[MAXLINE];
for ( ; ; ) {
len = clilen;
n = recvfrom(sockfd, mesg, MAXLINE, 0, pcliaddr, &len);
sendto(sockfd, mesg, n, 0, pcliaddr, len); } }
Code:
//udpcli01.c
#include "unp.h"
#include "sys/socket.h"

sockfd = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, 0);
dg_cli(stdin, sockfd, (SA *) &servaddr, sizeof(servaddr));

I'm having a strange issue with a RHEL 5.2 system with SE Linux. I can scp files to it, but I always have to hit ctrl+c to end the scp process. The file transfers 100% and everything, but scp just hangs there for a long time, or until I kill it. If I wait until it dies on its own, its exit value is 1. I'm not sure if it'll help, but here is the output when I add the verbose option. $ scp -v create_users.sh rhel5.2-server: Executing: program /usr/bin/ssh host rhel5.2-server, user (unspecified), command scp -v -p -t .

I have a 500gB USB drive connected to my laptop for backups and filestorage. But I can't get it to play nice with Midnight Commander. My transfer speeds max ut at 2MB/s wich is painfully slow when moving large files such as movies. Worker FM transfers the same files to the same drive much MUCH faster (not sure by how much, though). This leads me to the conclusion that the problem lies with MC.

In my laptop with debian-lenny OS I have a number of ripped dvd movies some of which are about 2.5GB. I have transferred those with less than 2GB (that is the size of my usb-flashdrives) to my netbook (with opensuse-11.3 OS) with the help of usb-flashdrives. Is there any method of tranferring the larger files by connecting the two machines by ethernet cables with usb ports and using some software packages?
