Debian Installation :: Transfer Files From Squeeze Platform To Windows?

Last month I installed (not upgrade) squeeze in place of lenny on my dual boot laptop where the other OS is windows 7 Home basic (both C and D drives). I just noticed it today that while I can get any file from the windows to my squeeze I am not permitted to put any file to windows. As far as I remember I was not asked during squeeze installation whether the windows drives would be read-only drives. This difficulty was not faced when I had lenny. Can this problem be remedied now without going through a re-installation?
I have a website hosting on a windows server with its ads being hosted on .net. i want to transfer all the hosting to ubuntu platform now but i dnt know what alternative to use for .net as .net is not supported by any linux distro.
I would like to transfer my music library and movie collection from my Desktop computer running Windows Vista and my laptop running Debian Squeeze. I have the laptop connected via wireless but it's possible to connect the two either directly with a CAT5e cable or through the router. I'm just wondering what the best way to do this would be.
I'm running a x86-based Debian Squeeze LAMP server which is also my gateway between my home network and the big wide world (Shorewall/Shorewall6) As you can guess, when (as it did just recently) the hardware dies and needs to be replaced, the rebuild of a machine which has been tuned and tweaked over years is "interesting", to say the least. I am looking for some software which will allow me to do a bare-metal restore of the software and setups (data is accommodated already, so that part can be ignored) I'd like to use something to create a boot disc (CD/DVD) that I can put in a new machine and get my original setup installed on the new tin automatically.
I looked at Mondo, it looks ideal, but Google hints at problems with GRUB, and incompatibilities with Debian Squeeze....so the questions are: 1) Has anyone run Mondo on Debian Squeeze successfully? 2) Is there a good howto for Mondo on Debian? 3) Is there an alternative that runs on Debian and that fits my requirements?
I am trying to install Debian over Kali since in order to use steam, newest version of wine and a few other things causes a change reaction that would require about two-thirds of my main os re-written with non kali files which makes me a little uneasy.
I have downloaded the debian-live-7.8.0-i386-gnome-desktop.iso from torrent from the link from debian download listings at debian.org. and I put it on a 8gb flash drive formated with gparted to a bootable fat32 partition and is listed as being /dev/sdc I installed the iso to the drive uss dd using the following code
now it boots to the flash drive just fine with only the gnome3 drivers loaded by the live os isn't fully functional with my system. Ie. when I log into any of the live modes it gives me a message that it was switched to gnome3 [fallback] I am using the current version of gnome3 desktop manager installed from source on kali with out any trouble.
Also when I click the graphical installer or the installer modes from the grub i get a background image with some sort of artifiacts in the top inchish of the screen then everything but the mouse freezes. But when I go into one of the live modes and click the installer in their it opens just fine but when it starts transferring files it says that it couldn't transfer files from the cd after all the language and localization screens at the beginning.
I did find a misc page on the internet involving a cruchbang with the same problem [URL] I went to the folder in the usb drive in question and it looks like since that was originally post something has changed or it could have been a crunchbang format.
So basically I am asking did I do a step wrong should I try a different way of instillation, or do I have a corrupted image? also I am unable to use disk media due to the type of drives and disks I have access to.
I just upgraded to Debian 6.0 squeeze 32 bit XFCE from Ubuntu on my old Dell PC. Installation went well, however, i can't get into X windows after reboot, the screen just displays garbage Specs: Dell dimension 600Mhz/384M RAM/10G HDD ATI RAGE pro 128 Any pointers on what should I do?
I had installed ssh but something went wrong and I uninstalled it. I removed the SSH configuration files by hand (I deleted all /etc/ssh folder).After ssh installation (I mean apt-get install ssh) I noticed that I have no SSH configuration files.I tried apt-get install openssh-server but i still have no SSH configuration files.
I need to re-install windows on the windows side of my pc (my HDD is partitioned), and was wondering if there's any way to back up my pics and iTunes library by placing them on the Ubuntu side of my PC?
I have not installed Linux yet on my PC, andit has been years since I installed and used it.How will I transfer files between the two systems ondifferent drives the same computer? I suppose one still does not install Linux on an NTFS (windows) formatted disk so access would be natural?

I am runnig WinXP and OpenSUSE 11.4 on dual boot.Generaly i am using SUSE, XP only for UpNP Media Center(server) to watch movies stored on my computer on TV via STB.For this i am using TVersity for wich i not found yet Linux alternative - or better say - i found it but is too heavy for my PC(P4 1.6 Mhz, 768 MB RAM, an dinosaur from Nvidia Vanta with 64 MB RAM)But this is not a part of my question.My question is how to transfer(copy, move...?) files from SUSE to WinXP?A large files like avi, mkv, mostly movies.I solved this to copy them on USB and then from USB to Win.This is a very slow proces because my PC have only USB 1.0And before asked me - all files are legaly downloaded from paysites.From SUSE, partitions(disks), folders and files under WinXP are visible but is not possible to copy files on them - acces is denied.Is there any way to do this?Suse is insatlled on LVM - /root/home/swapI am interesting ONLY to copy files from SUSE to Win, not at al from Win to SUSE.Code:

My Windows XP Pro laptop has been attacked! Windows will no longer update and Microsoft Security Essentials will not update either. I've been trying to resolve the issue for over two weeks with Microsoft support, but it's just taking too long. I also tried some rescue CD options (all running some form of Linux, obviously):
- BitDefender Rescue CD (removed infections, now detects nothing), - Kaspersky Rescue CD 10 (removed infections, now detects nothing), - Trinity Rescue CD (won't load AV Engine, so can't use it to do anything).
Malwarebytes cleaned a bunch of stuff, but will not clean the final threat detected (it's supposed to get deleted on reboot, but never does). Hijack.FolderOptions is stuck in the accursed registry, and it keeps causing Windows Explorer to crash. I cannot rename files or work with them or everything just crashes.
So I'm ready to reinstall XP from scratch, and add a dual boot with Xubuntu & LXDE, which I'm already running on a much older laptop.
Question: I want to rescue the files I need. My idea was:
1) Install Xubuntu with dual boot. 2) Copy over files from Windows XP partition using Xubuntu. 3) Back up files to an external drive using Xubuntu. 4) Reinstall XP Pro and format hard drive. 5) Reinstall Xubuntu with dual boot. 6) Use Xubuntu for daily use. 7) Only use XP for those tasks that require it (TomTom updates ...)
Should I be concerned about the security risk from copying files from the Windows partition to the Xubuntu partition, and from there onto an external hard drive?
Is this the way to do it, or is there a better way? I just want my laptop back in working order. Right now I can't use it for anything.
I want to connect a laptop running ubuntu 10.04 to a laptop running windows 7 via direct connection in order to transfer files like music, documents, pictures, etc. I have an ethernet cable that I thought I would need in order to do it. Is that even possible?? If so, how would I go about doing that?
Now, I have tried to share the files wirelessly but for some reason when I pick up the workgroup on the ubuntu laptop and enter the password in order to connect to the windows laptop it says my password is wrong, when I know for a fact that it is not. I know I can transfer files with a flash drive and what not but I want to try to get this working.
I have a laptop connected to the internet through wifi, and a desktop connected directly to the router. I can trasnfer files of any size, with scp, from the desktop to the laptop; on the other hand, I can transfer small files (a 4,0K file, for example), but not files with some tens of megabytes, from the laptop to the desktop.
When I try to transfer a big file, the transmission starts at normal speed (around 2 mb/s), and then it slows down, and the message "stalled" appears where the remaining time was.
I am trying to transfer a files from my linux to my windows 7 virtualbox but how to do it. I installed samba as a server and bridged the virtual machine to my physical LAN but i just don't know how the real transfer is achieved...
I have 2 debian computers set up, and would like to transfer files from one to the other. I hooked up a cable to each of them, but how do I transfer files?
I have a new smartphone with Cyanogenmod 12 (based on Android 5) and a new ext SD card in the phone which has been formatted. I turned on "USB debugging" in Android and connected the phone to Debian KDE with a USB cable. The phone shows up and mounts, and I can browse the files in Dolphin and copy from the phone to the desktop, but I can't copy from desktop to phone or modify the contents, even on the ext SD card. In Dolphin I always get the same error message, "writing to camera is not supported", even though I mounted the device as MTP* (not PTP) and even though I'm trying to write to the ext SD card which is not even where the phone camera stores things.
I chose to mount as MTP within Android. I don't know if I also need choose an MTP option within KDE somehow, or how to do that.

My PC keeps crashing when copying files. The monitor displays the desktop, but the mouse doesn't move, nothing responds and I can't even ssh in to debug it.
This happens when copying files using nautilus and the command line. I'm trying to copy files from my local hard disk to an nfs drive which is mounted in my system and has been working fine for years.
how to debug this after a hard reboot?
This has only just started happening, last night was the first time.
I have just installed Debian 6.0.2.1 X86_64. I have enabled the Debian-Multimedia repository, and I have installed gstreamer base, good, bad and ugly plugins, and w64codecs too. Now I want to play MOV files using totem, it says it needs "MPEG-4 Video decoder" to play the file. When I press search, it finds no results. what other packages do I need to play MOV files?
I will be getting a new computer soon, and I would like to transfer Wubi partitions from one computer with Windows to another. (The reason I want to transfer the partitions instead of just making a new installation is because I want to keep EVERYTHING intact and all the files/settings/applications/etc the same.)

I would like to connect from squeeze to my windows network. Do I need samba server, smbclient is already installed? If I do a doubleclick -> Windows Network then get "Unable to mount location". If I use -> Connect to Server -> Windows Share then it works well. How to configure samba server that I can see Windows machines in "Windows Network"?
I have tftpd-hpa and dhcp3-server up and running. I just want to install server edition via network, from the host machine (my laptop, running ubuntu 9.10) with an ISO file (ubuntu 8.04 32-bit server edition). I managed to boot the client machine with pxe-netboot technique, but instead downloading all the files from internet, I need to do this process directly from ISO. To transfer ISO from host to client, I also installed Apache. I unpacked ISO file into /var/lib/tftpboot/server/. I created a link to the Apache root: /var/www
Code: ubuntu@ubuntu:/var/www$ ls returns => index.html server server folder is the place where I unpacked the ISO.
My dhcp3-server has this setup and it works well with netboot, but I don't know how to add Apache to the formula to transfer the iso file from host to client. Firewall is disabled. This is my edited /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf file.
When I pxe-boot the client, the process comes to a halt when tftp server is trying to access to pxelinux.0 file. I got thls error: PXE-T00: Permission denied PXE-E36: Error received from TFTP server I have no experience with Apache... so I think there is a problem with my IP addresses.. Do I need to use 127.0.1.1 instead of 192.168.2.1 (my routers IP)?
This is about the Squeeze (0.2.3-8) archiver in Debian Squeeze. I may be missing a dependency, but is Squeeze incapable of opening files inside archives? I created a generic archive with "tar -cvf arxiv.tar file01.txt" and Squeeze segfaults when I try to double click to open the file (file01.txt) stored in the archive (arxiv.tar).
Also, after experimenting with Squeeze on the command line, it seems the "-n" option works, but results in an orphaned gui window; the "-x" option will only extract to a directory which already exists (which is o.k., but should be documented); and the "-d" option doesn't follow the general syntax in the man page "squeeze [OPTION...] [archive name]", which isn't bad, but sure does make it unnecessarily cumbersome to use, and also, the gui runs (blinks for a split section) for no clear reason. Now it would be silly to use command line squeeze over tar, but the man page for Squeeze begins with: "Squeeze - modern and advanced archive manager for Xfce".
I would like a gui archiver/extracter to use with Xfce4 without all the QA problems. Unless I'm doing something really wrong, this software doesn't seem to be ready for release at all, and the upstream version has not changed in a long time.
I just upgraded from Lenny to Squeeze and now when I enter startx I get a solid black screen and the computer does not respond to any keyboard input. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, Ctrl-Alt-Delete, Esc, Alt-F2, Alt-F4, etc. all do nothing. No beeps or anything. I have an NVidia graphics card and have been using the proprietary NVidia drivers. I originally thought the problem might be related to this driver but I tried both the nv and vesa drivers and got the same results.
Attached is my Xorg.log.0 file. It just ends after the GLX extension initialization.I am able to use ssh to login after running startx. Running "ps aux" from the remote machine I did not see a process for X. I copied the output below the Xorg.log.0 file.
