Debian Multimedia :: Modify A File Called ~/.xinitrc, But It Does Not Exist?
Feb 7, 2011
I'm getting openbox up and running on squeeze. I performed a netinstall and did a simple apt-get openboxI need to modify a file called ~/.xinitrc, but it does not exist. I read that I can copy one over from /var/x11r6/lib/xinitrc, but the /x11r6/ directory doesn't exist either. I've installed xorg, but the directory still eludes me. A package search yields nothing useful. I am using the SLiM display/login manager, which I believe calls startx, which should theoretically generate the ~/.xinitrc file.
I want to copy a file from an old directory to a new directory and ideally I would like that the 'mv' command itself could create the directory for me in one step...That is to say that the directory would not exist until 'mv' has been called as in:Code:mv olddirectory/file.dat newdirectory/file.datso mv would create the directory 'newdirectory' in the above call....I am not sure if this is possible however, that is to say I think it may be necessary that the directory 'newdirectory' already exists before I make the above call to mv, as when I make try the above call when 'newdirectory' doesn't exist I get the following error:Quote:mv: cannot move `test1/4215/4215-001R.fit' to `test2/test.fit': No such file or directoryso to sum up, my question is:is there some paramater for 'mv' that I can change so that it will create the new directory as well as copy the file and if not, are there other commands that might do this?
There are some sites who are for example U.S.-only...Using Windows and Firefox, it often helped to just install Modify Headers, set it up correctly and you're done (it changes your ip-address you show to a website) Using a proxy really slows your connection down, but the app didn't.Is there an app for Iceweasel pretty the same, or at least one being able to do the same?
I am running a fairly new Debain Jessie stable installation with Xfce desktop. I need to use Xfce4 becuas the standard Gnome 3 does ot work when logging in with xrdp which I use becuase the actual box is headless.
I have an issue when starting synaptic. When I start it from the menu entry it just does not start. When I start from the terminal with
Code: Select allgksudo synaptic
I get an error box "Unable to copy the user's Xauthorization file" At the same time I can see in the terminal window a message
"Error copying '/home/userxxx/.Xauthority' to /'tmp/libgksu-SwcIe0': File or Directory not found".
I assume it is related to that I use a rdp session to connect, but I am otherwise clueless.
Code: Select alluserxxx@server2>xauth xauth: file /home/userxxx/.Xauthority does not exist
How can i change that login window's font rendering, i mean that screen which you can select user and type password. Is anybody have the experience for tweaking gnome login font or background image?
A folder called "file:" appears periodically in my home directory. It contains an empty mirror of my home partition's directory structure down to my user folder, under which is an empty Desktop folder. Deleting it causes no obvious problems. My home partition has an XFS file system and I think this is somehow related to that since I've never seen it on an ext3 home partition.
I feel there's a bit of a misunderstanding going on between C++ and me...My problem is that I have a deque of pointers to a class, and create objects then add them to the deque in a for loop. However, the destructor is called on the object as soon as the loop quits.
Code:
This prints:
Code:
Now, if I change the deque from deque<Test*> to deque<Test> then it works fine - I get:
Code:
However, I can't do this with my actual code, because I am creating a deque of pointers to an abstract class, so it won't let me instantiate the class. (This is all so that I can take advantage of polymorphism, and call functions on a set of similar objects without worrying what type of object I'm dealing with).
So, I suppose my question is: what is the correct way to create that deque of pointers to the abstract class? I don't seem to be barking up the right tree currently.
I am using a custom minimal install of Ubuntu 10.04 I built up from scratch using mini.iso. All went well till I decided to add .xinitrc to my home dir and autostart.sh (for openbox) to ~/.config/openbox in order to automatically launch a number of common programs when I load up my desktop using startx. I use alsa for my sound server; I installed alsa-base, alsa-utils and alsa-oss pretty much first thing after installing my new system and sound was working perfectly up until a few hours ago. What gets me is that alsa ought to be loading up as I boot into Linux, I can't see how xinitrc or autostart.sh can even affect it, but it seems switching to using those has caused some sort of issue with it, as I am now without sound. Everything else worked fine witht he change, my desktop is loading just how I want it now, all the rest of my sorftware is working fine as best I can tell, it's just the sound that is now borked. Has anyone else had this issue, I've searched all over with no luck so far. If it helps, I am not using any desktop environments, just openbox with a small handful of hand picked packages, I've been running this system for nearly 2 weeks now without any issues until now, and this one has me stumped.
So I run "xmodmap" in my xinitrc to make caps lock a second control button, but for some reason its not sticking. I'm not using a desktop environment, just running xmonad. If I run "xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap" once X is started, it works fine, but it won't run in my xinitrc.
Is installing "php5-suhosin" from yast and restarting apache enough to make suhosin work out of the box? Or do I need to add few lines to php.ini file and modify suhosin file?
I want to create a logon script (or somesuch) that creates a file (if it doesn't already exist) and checks the file for some info otherwise. If it finds a given trigger in that file, it logs into a local database and does some operations.
Now my problem isn't with creating that file or even getting it to function as a logon script -- it's with permissions. After the logon script creates the file, I want that user to have read access on it ONLY. Further, I don't want to give the user any kind of root access so that they could do the database operations in question or chown/chmod the file.
What's the best practice here? I'm noticing that whenever the script runs (in .bashrc right now) the script runs with the current user's permissions. Ideally, I'd like to make it so the login script can run at a higher level of permissions, (higher than the user has). Is this even possible? What's the best way to do this?
I was reading some old posts here and was wondering if anyone could give me or show me where I can download a file called cleanappledouble.pl Apparently it is included when netatalk is installed and is located in /usr/local/atalk/bin for most people. Here is the thread where I was looking at regarding the file.
depend on my sound card (which is Realtek, I think), but which file/folder in /dev is my speakers? In fact, a page with the meaning of all the /dev folders would be nice if that exists, but if not, just the speakers.
What is the Terminology called of a Binary using a file that is not part of it's self? An example would be when a browser uses a HTML file for it's interface. The binaries code has to know how to find it and so on. I imagine that the applications binary uses a system call and that another application takes over.
I'm trying to compile a program from source. When I run make the following appears:./ config. status --recheck make: ./config.status: Command not found make: *** [config.status] Error 127.There is no file called config. status in the current directory. Why was it not created?
Is there any software that can 'read' the log file in nagios and produce a so-called 'scoreboard' (something like a graph) to display the status of the services? I was told that one could 'read' the log file stored in nagios and create a scoreboard.
My firewall keeps blocking something called CPQ-Wbem. There have been about 10 instances of this.
A machine on the network is advertising it runs, or looks for machines running, Compaq Insight Manager on TCP/2301. If the machine isn't yours or you haven't enabled Compaq's web-based remote management then silently drop it.
Now as far as i know i do not have a network, just a dsl connection. I also do not own a Compaq computer. So if someone who has some knowledge of this could you explain to me how a " network is advertising it runs, or looks for machines running, Compaq Insight Manager on TCP/2301 " . This would seem to me to be a local network thing not a www thing ?
I need to modify a file that contains \tsus.fbfs.comappsdataStormLossProduction and replace the \tsus.fbfs.comappsdataStormLossProduction line with rm -f /mnt/nfsvol/PC/SLR/
I have tried:
But it provides an error on the second . I need to change this in place and not redirect to another file.
Is this possible? I have used sed and awk before but not extensively.
Whenever I modify my pam file as shown below I can no longer log into my centos; I have to go into single user mode and undo the changes. What I want to do is log all failed authentication attempts but I don't want it to affect the root user account.
I just setup the vim,and when i modify the vimrc file ,I obviously made some mistakes ,the error looks like this and this is where the problem is and why my user name is so long ,is there anyway i can make it shorter or use others
Why is the info in the (BASH_Profile) file different than (echo $Path). Is the Profile file just there to modify another file and not actually hold information?
