Debian :: No WiFi On Boot

Mar 28, 2016

I messed around with bluetooth today, and now, I am unable to connect to wifi after boot. In order for network manager to even see my wifi network's name I have to manually enter:

Code: Select allsudo /etc/init.d/network-manager restart

I didn't change anything other than bluetooth. All I have done was installed the necessary components to get blueman-applet working, that was all. Before this, I was able to get wifi instantly. Some technical info:

* rfkill list shows that nothing is hard or soft blocked
* I'm on Debian Testing (recently upgraded from Jessie)
* The wifi card is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000
* The wifi driver is iwlwifi

Debian :: Best PCI Or USB Wifi Adapter To Use?

Jan 7, 2011

I have another thread started [URL] asking for support on configuring a Netopia TER/GUSB-N USB Wireless Adapter. But, I figured it would be interesting to get some opinions about other wireless adapters. I don't mind shopping on eBay for a new adapter or purchasing one at Walmart or BestBuy. So basically, I wanted to find out which wireless adapters are guaranteed to work out of the box after installing Debian. I am setting up webcam servers throughout my house and want to use the same hardware as much as possible. So if anyone has any recommendations on a wireless adapter that is proven to work and work well, please let me know.

Here are three that I can get pretty cheap at Walmart: Belkin N150 Enhanced Wireless USB Network AdapterNetgear WG111 Wireless-G 54Mbps USB 2.0 AdapterCisco - Valet Connector (Wireless N USB Adapter) AM10-4A

Debian :: WiFi Card Isn't Identified By OS

May 28, 2015

I booted Debian in Live mode on a USB to try to see if the internet will work on my Linux machine before I actually install it (there is some tricky internet software where I live that I must overcome, but that will come in another thread).

Currently I have no WiFi whatsoever. When I go into the internet access menu I only get back the fact that there is a wired connection that's possible (theoretically, I should be able to also see networks to which I can connect to, but I don't). Also, it's impossible for me to actually get a wired connection going, unless I can somehow give it through my Windows laptop.

When I did some research, the people seem to say that I need to update the driver after enabling the use of non-free software; I can't do that since I have no connection in the first place.

The OS recognizes that the PCE exists (I am using asus pce-ac68), when I did "lspci" command it told me I have BCM4360 and BCM43225 chips.

I think I found the drivers here "[URL] ......" but I don't think my chip is listed there (there is no BCM4360 or BCM43225 on that list). What to do with those drivers, I mean how to compile them and install them on a Debian machine, and I'm not sure I can even install them on a live boot (but I want to make sure my internet works on the live boot before I actually install the OS).

Debian Configuration :: How To Connect Wifi From CLI

Jan 7, 2014

I did a netinstall earlier today (latest version, amd64) on my Dell XPS laptop and ended up with a minimal installation because I couldn't connect to the internet. Now I'm trying to get online without a desktop environment.

I have an Intel Centrino 1030, so I downloaded and installed the firmware [URL].... with a usb, then rebooted. My searches have turned up a lot of instructions involving a utility called iwconfig and wpasuppliant, but these are apparently not installed. I don't really know much about it, but my /etc/network/interfaces file looks rather empty:

Code: Select all# The loopback interface
 auto lo
 iface lo inet loopback

Shouldn't there be something like wlan0 there? The network card does show up with lspci

Debian :: Installing The Wifi For Atheros?

Feb 8, 2010

i used to have shaw cable that i paid for and with that a "wired" connection which no matter what linux i chose to play with would recognize and automatically install the network drivers etc... so that i could access the web. now though i use a connection via wifi in the hotel that i now reside at and when i install or use live cd versions of linux i cant get it to use my wifi. due to the fact i have an atheros card. i researched this and found that apparently i need to have mad wifi installed and configured. however i haven't been able to get it to work. i can't seem to get an accurate step by step on installing it. same when i step by step try to install linux onto a usb stick and have it bootable. furthest i've gotten is the start up splash screen and then it freezes. anywho can someone steer me towards the "easiest dumbest person using it" install madwifi and or get a copy that works for an atheros card.

Debian Installation :: 7.4 - WiFi Configuration Fails

Apr 8, 2014

I've been installing multiple versions of ubunutu over years and now I better understand why I faced always problems with wifi configuration on these different baselines : Debian root of course.

Now on Debian 7.4 :
The Broadcom BCM4313 driver is not loaded by default (not free product) for my wifi card. This is stated thru the UNCLAIMED declaration

Code: Select all
sudo lshw -c network
 *-network UNCLAIMED
       description: Network controller
product: BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller
       vendor: Broadcom Corporation
       physical id: 0

[Code] ...

Unclaimed means : no driver found (no kernel association)

So I installed the driver located in the non-free backports by adding this target into the repository

Code: Select alldeb http://http.debian.net/debian/ wheezy main contrib non-free

and install :

Code: Select allsudo apt-get update && apt-get install firmware-brcm80211
sudo modprobe brcm80211

Check seems OK :

Code: Select allsudo lshw -c network

  *-network
       description: Wireless interface
product: BCM4313 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller
       vendor: Broadcom Corporation
       physical id: 0

[Code] ....

I can't connect with wlan0, it doesn't work. I found information here regarding WPA2/PSK wifi configuration on debian : [URL] ....

so I added this setup to my interfaces file an got :

Code: Select allauto lo
iface lo inet loopback

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
 wpa-ssid Hznteam-Datacenter
 # hexadecimal psk is encoded from a plaintext passphrase
 wpa-psk 12345678901234567890123456

It's worth ! no more wifi network are detected and ifconfig gives no ip address allocated :

Code: Select allwlan0     Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 78:e4:00:4e:49:a3
          UP BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

Debian Installation :: System Does Not Have Any WiFi Drivers Unfortunately
