I'm running 64 bit openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. I would like to install Wi Fi Radar. where I can obtain the RPM for it? I have looked but can only find older versions of it for older versions of SUSE..
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to connect to a wireless AP, neither wicd or wifi-radar are able to obtain an IP. With wicd, a string of various hex/dec characters flow by, with an eventual error. This happens with both WEP and unencrypted APs (- the hex/dec). With wifi-radar it simply fails, but not every time. NetworkManager connects with zero problems every time; though I prefer to not use NetworkManager, so please spare me of such replies. Someone please tell me why there should be only one wireless manager in Ubuntu that works? I have used wicd since before gutsy gibbon, and it always worked fine until the last two versions, Lucid, and Karmic. What is occurring in Ubuntu which over time breaks these excellent applications? I have tried this with four different wireless cards, and all suffer either identical or similar issues. Those chipsets are Broadcom, two RealTeks, and an Intel.
I really wish to emphasize that this post is not a request for a lecture on why I should use only NetworkManager, or why I should go find another distro. With something like Linux, maybe we could push a little harder, and have maybe say, two, wireless managers that actually work? I would honestly like to see more than two, but one is not enough. It baffles me a bit why new versions of Ubuntu mangle some perfectly good applications, but not others. In IT, surely networking, IP4, WEP, basic wifi technology, etc. has not changed so much that every six months whole new programs should need to be written to connect to a wireless access point. Nor should old ones need much tweaking. What's going on? With such boastings of repositories abundant and brimming with free apps, why does anyone want to make NetworkManager the only app that works?
My laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter. The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device? This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

any ideas on how i can configure it manually? KDE does not detect any wifi device. .(of course since no driver is installed yet).
i used my desktop (win***)with DSL connection and installed the driver of the usb net adapter.. made it as the access point. . so my laptop detects the desktop as wifi spot.
I have recently installed Squeeze on my 2009 Acer Aspire laptop and updated the wifi firmware and still do not have wifi connection, I wasn't too concerned as I thought I would just use a usb wifi adapter however it doesn't work with that either, yet that same adpater works with Squeeze on my 2007 Desktop computer

In a specific context I want to automatically make operationnal some USB WiFI devices, deploying automaticaly firwmare (may be not free packages) depending on device ID (vendor ID/product ID). Dev device is a Netgear WNA1000 (driver ath9k, with htc_9271.fw firmware).
I tried to reset the USB bus (modprobe -vr ehci_hcd; modprobe -v ehci_hcd) but it's not really reliable, with sometimes kernel panic.
Is there an "official" way to "mount" the device (the system create the device wlan0) just after deploying the firmware? Maybe using udev ?
I have 2 connections, wlan and wired, and I'd want to have a few websites (in my browser) to connect through the wireless connection while other go through the wired rj45 connection. s it possible? (without unplugging the rj45 cable...)

I was wondering if there's any way for a laptop to be both simultaneously connected to a wireless network, while at the same time acting as an ad-hoc network with local access to serve as a wifi connection for my mobile device, which would be ssh-ing into the laptop and using local resources.

I have an old PowerBook G4 that I would like to use as a 'dummy' computer for learning wireless penetration (WEP/WPA attacks) more effectively. I had been using a wireless router, but I gave it away I can use Mac OS X to share an ethernet connection over wifi, but this is _very_ un-configurable. You get two options only, WEP and a key-length. So, I would like to install someway to make this wireless connection more configurable.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu Karmic. For the past 6 months I could pick up the WiFi spot in our house, until last weekend when it just disappeared from my network manager. Everyone else in my house can see the WiFi and connect, even the Karmic users - only me has nothing! I can see our neighbors' WiFi though - I could always see it, so I don't think the problem is with my hardware.
I tried to reinstall the connection via network manager - did not work. I reinstalled Karmic - no effect. I tried Lucid - nothing!! It just disappeared! I had connection 3 days ago, but now I don't know what to do.
Pc 1 : netbook with an usb wifi antenna spotted on a free wifi hotspot
Pc 2 : same model netbook that can't access internet
What I need : Share the wifi connection by the 2 internal WLAN on ubuntu by network-manager
I have a pc which has 2 network cards, 1 wifi and 1 ethernet card.
I'm using wifi card to connect to wifi network (internet) and i'm planing to share this wifi/internet connection via ethernet to wireless router (siemens sx763) so i can have internet on my other devices, e.g. mobile phone, laptop.
I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.
My exact hardware:

I just installed 10.10 on a Dell Inspiron 1300. The wired connection(eth0) works fine but I get no wireless signal when I unplug and try to connect to my network/internet. It shows that wlan0 does exist but it gets no signal. I've used the rfkill to make sure that it wasn't blocked and everything seems to be ok, except I get no wireless signal.
I uninstalled Network Manager and installed Wcid and it found nothing. I even tried installing several signal scanners I found in the package manager. I've removed, updated and reinstalled the broadcom drivers. I still get nothing. The wireless signal from my router is nonexistent according to Ubuntu.
The wireless works fine when I put my windows XP HD in and it also works fine when I put my Mepix or PCLinux OS HDs in the laptop. So I know that the wireless card is not busted.
I decided to switch from Ubuntu to Fedora Core 10 KDEdual boot installation worked perfectly... all smooth!untill i got to installing things....i wanted to install ndiswrapper, so i manually downloaded it on my second pc and transferred it trought a USB stick to the Fedora PC. When reading the 'installation manual' it clearly uses the "make" command a lot...problem is; bash error: "bash: make: command not found"So i google this and i get some solutions, all involving online repositories...so basically... i need internet to get the MAKE rpm, and i need the MAKE rpm to get the internet working... :')I tried searching online repositories but i haven't got a clue about what i need to download from there (to get the make command, or the "Development Tools") and how to install it on my fedora pc....i need help :P It would be much appreciated if someone could explain me how i could get these important packages up and running on my system with manual downloading and installing.I haven't got a clue how to do this manually... I've been on it for hours allready and I'm getting a bit fed up with it I can't understand why such an important package isn't standard included in the installation.
