May 29, 2010I have recently installed Squeeze on my 2009 Acer Aspire laptop and updated the wifi firmware and still do not have wifi connection, I wasn't too concerned as I thought I would just use a usb wifi adapter however it doesn't work with that either, yet that same adpater works with Squeeze on my 2007 Desktop computer

get the wifi working in ubuntu on my laptop. Ubuntu is pretty much useless to me if I can't get the wifi to work on it.

Feb 24, 2010I am using a Fujitsu Amilo pi3560 with a Realtek rtl8172 wireless card, and running the latest driver (rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0014.0115.2010). The OS is Ubuntu 9.10.
Everything runs perfectly - when my laptop is connected with the power cord. But when I go battery the wireless disconnects after a few minutes. It then asks for the wpa password, searches for the router, asks again, and so on indefinitely, until I reboot and it all replays once more.

Sep 12, 2014I'm a brand new user of Debian, and I just bought a (too much?) new laptop, the HP 430 G2. It seems to work great for almost everything, except that I don't have any wifi available.
I tried so many different things (without any success) that it would be hard to resume. But for now, all I have is a new installation (to avoid parasite installations of weird things), and a kernel updated to 3.16. I don't know if it's useful though...

The first element I notice is that I don't have the line with "Kernel driver in use...". Which seems to indicate that there's a problem with the kernel module (is that right?). But I don't know how to fix it...
The other thing that puzzles me with these last two commands is that according to this page, my wifi card is a Broadcom BCM43142. But it's not the result I get with the lspci command.
Anyway, I'm really lost, I don't know what to do, what to check, what to install. I don't want to go by random, testing all the different solutions I see on the web blindely. This is the reason why I ask it here.

Dec 8, 2014I have a Lenovo T440p.I am on Debian Jessie. I use KDE as my desktop environment. My Wifi adapter is Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260. I have configured my laptop not to suspend itself when the lid is down. I can verify that the laptop still runs when the lid is down, because I can hear the music if it is already playing. However the Wifi always disconnects when the lid is down. If I am downloading a file, it always gets interrupted.

Mar 16, 2011I just installed Debian only to be confronted with a problem. My wireless internet won't work. If I click the internet thing, under "Wireless Connections" it says "device not managed", btw my internet works and it did when I had Ubuntu, so nothing wrong in that department.

Apr 17, 2016I am new to linux and decided to use Debian. I installed it on my laptop and have a few problems.First one is my WIFI.
Laptop type: HP Omen 15
Wifi adapter: Intel Wireless 7260n
rfkill list output:0: hci0: Bluetooth
Soft blocked: yes

So wifi is not displaying
Kernel: 3.16.0-4-amd64
Debian version: 8.4

Debian Hardware :: WiFi Card Not Working
Dec 6, 2014I have some problems with my WiFi card I'm configuring for Debian Wheezy. I've used it in other computers successfully (It's a USB device), but this box doesn't seem to be able to recognize it or use it properly.
I've identified the card using Code: Select alllsusb with the output Code: Select allBus 001 Device 002: ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS]
I've used the Wheezy docs to download the firmware necessary and it apparently is supposed to run fine with this firmware, but nothing is working. There was mention to a GitHub repository of a fixed version of the driver in question, which didn't work either.
Debian Configuration :: WiFi Connection Isn't Working After Install?
Mar 27, 2016I just installed the lastest stable Debian (gnome) today and what I was most afraid just happened: my laptop's wifi isn't working properly, it isn't turning on. This had already hapened on livecd.
In the laptop's chassis leds, the wifi led apears as green. When I click to turn on the wifi, as shown on the picture the button, quickly disappears and appears again not seeming to have any effect at all at turning on the wifi but not showing any error either!

What's interesting about the wifi not working is that in the installation process I was able to connect to a wifi hotspot and it connected to the internet fine!
Now after installation was complete and my system did the reboot, I was no longer able to connect to the internet using wifi.
My wireless card is Atheros AR9565 and my LAN card is also Atheros.
Here is an output of lspci and lsmod which may have some leads about the problem.

Sep 22, 2014A couple of days ago I followed a guide online in order to install Adobe Reader and this guide recommended a specific package that needed the jessie repository, I added it (unaware the jessie was the name of the new distribution on testing) and so I found myself upgrading to Jessie, which is fine since is working quite alright, but since then I can't sent any document to my wi-fi printer.
I had no problem with Wheezy, I installed two printers: one connected to the usb interface and the other one to the wifi (but is actually the same). With Jessie when I try to print something and select the wi-fi one nothing happens. If i try to add a new one I can't since debian doesn't find it and I can't even delete the old "malfunctioning" one.

Debian :: Laptop Keyboard Not Working After Change To KDE
Mar 9, 2016I just reinstalled Debian 8.3.0 "Jessie" on my laptop using KDE as the desktop environment instead of GNOME. Using GNOME I had no problems with the keyboard or mousepad but now changing to KDE my keyboard and mousepad won't work. It was obviously working fine during the install but now won't work once I login my desktop. I'm using a USB keyboard and mouse in the meantime.
I've tried going into System Settings->Input Devices->Keyboard and changing the keyboard model. Originally it had installed by default as "Generic 101-key PC", and I tried swapping to "Asus Laptop" but that made no difference. I tried a few other random keyboard models but that didn't make a difference either.
My laptop model is an: ASUS U40SD.
Any commands I can type into bash that could track down the problem.

May 14, 2010Install Debian Squeeze onto Thinkpad T410. Got the basic things working and noticed that - movement of touchpad results in moving of mouse pointer, which is correct, but - tapping on the touchpad does not simulate a click action. Confirmed that the touchpad hardware is working by booting into a CrunchBang LiveCD. how I can enable the touchpad tapping action?

Jul 12, 2014I just did a Wheezy reinstall (I just started using LVM on LUKS), but my Ralink RT5370 usb wireless adapter wouldn't work, even though I have firmware-ralink installed. When I click on the Network Manager icon, it lists my home network (WPA2 passphrase) as available, but clicking on it yields no result.
Before the system reinstall, I've been using the adapter with firmware-ralink without problems. As far as "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade" goes, my system is up-to-date.
I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling firmware-ralink (rebooted too), but to no avail. The adapter seems to be undamaged.

All drivers are present and correct and necessary modules for my sound device appear to be loading properly, the device seems fully functional except for headphones.

Apr 13, 2011on my netbook I have a Debian unstable/sid system. A few days ago I did an apt-get (dist-)upgrade which I think also updated the X-Server. Since then my netbooks keyboard and touchpad are not working as soon as the desktop is started (I think gdm).
The Keyboard works during the Grub selection and also in recovery mode (Root Terminal), so I'm sure its not a hardware problem. Could it be that the X-Server unloads the kernel modules for those two devices?Also if I plug in a USB keyboard or mouce they are working.

Sep 27, 2015I've recently bought a Dell Latitude E4310 off ebay. Wifi chipset is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN. I'm using Debian 8.2 with Gnome 3 and I've installed firmware-iwlwifi.
Wifi shows up in Gnome upper bar, it correctly scans the networks and seems to connect successfully to my home router but internet doesn't work, it doesn't seem able to load any page.

Debian Hardware :: Laptop Headphone Jack Stopped Working On Wheezy
Apr 3, 2015My laptop's (Acer Travelmate P243-M-6456) headphone jack had been working fine, and has no issues when booted into Windows, but it suddenly stopped working.
I've gone through alsamixer, and the volume is up, and nothing seems to be muted, and I've tried to do everything I could throughout the sound options in the Gnome System Settings.

Debian Hardware :: Lenovo X140e Laptop - Getting Broadcom BCM43228 Working On Jessie
Feb 1, 2015It's for a Lenovo x140e laptop with Jessie. Specs online commonly describe the laptop as having BCM43142 but I ran "lspci -knn | grep -iA2 net" and the output says I have BCM43228. Not sure why there is that discrepancy but I am assuming the latter, BCM43228, is what is actually in my computer.
Anyway, I originally installed "broadcom-sta-common", "module-assistant", and "broadcom-sta-source", but that resulted in nothing happening so I think I am going to "apt-get purge" those and start over.
I know about the Debian wiki "wl" page but it only provides instructions up to Wheezy, not Jessie. And I read many previous threads but they often contain different instructions and mixed results, plus there are many moving parts here (kernel, OS, driver, packages) and the instructions seem to be changing over time.
I was thinking I'd install these:
1) firmware-realtek
2) wireless-tools
3) module-assistant
4) broadcom-sta-common
5) broadcom-sta-dkms
6) broadcom-sta-source
Does the order of install for those above packages matter at all? Do I need the kernel header or not and, if so, how do I use it? Are there any other packages I need? What is the process?

Ubuntu Networking :: Use Laptop As Wifi Hotspot?
Feb 17, 2010I occasionally stay at hotels where I get free wired internet but not wifi, I'd like to use my laptop as an access point so that I can have internet on my Ipod Touch. I know it's possible because after trying unsuccessfully in Ubuntu 9.04 a few times I decided to try it with windows vista and it took me a matter of seconds and both the laptop and ipod touch were surfing the internet. I'd prefer not to boot into windows just for this.
In ubuntu when I create a new wireless network, network manager shows that I'm connected to both the autoeth0 and the wireless network I created but neither computer has internet access.
