Debian :: GUI App - Installing System Config Samba

May 7, 2013

I use this GUI app a lot when I was using Ubuntu. Very simple to use. I want to use it in my new Debian 7 xfce install. My understanding is that I would have to build a deb from source to allow me to use this app? If this is the case, what is the best (easiest) way to do this. I saw some videos in YouTube but I'm not sure if things have changed with the new Debian 7. I have never used Debian before so if possible, go easy on me...

Debian :: Samba - 7.0 Wheezy And Windows 7 Cannot Login

Feb 23, 2016

I'm using Windows 7 & Debian Wheezy, and samba is the software that I use to share the folders/files for Linux & Windows.

The issue is one of my users(nv) cannot login to her folder in Linux using his windows credentials(the password keep prompt). But If I'm using my windows password she can access to her linux folder. But it is a temporary solution as when she restart the pc,the password authentication will prompt again.

This is my smb.conf file:
==============================================================================================
#
# Sample configuration file for the Samba suite for Debian GNU/Linux.
#
#
# This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
# smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
# here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options most of which
# are not shown in this example

Is there a way I can slip in the drivers via USB or some other method so I can do a netinst of Debian on this new system?

Debian :: How To Fix Python-libtorrent Kept Back Package On Wheezy

Oct 11, 2015

I'm currently running Debian Wheezy (upgrading to Jessie is not possible since I'm using OpenMediaVault which only supports Wheezy) but ever since I installed Deluge BitTorrent client that I've had this python-libtorrent package as "kept back". I'd like to fix this system state but how...

A few things I've tried:

Code: Select all$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done

The following packages have been kept back:
  python-libtorrent
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

Code: Select all~$ sudo apt-get install python-libtorrent
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

[Code] .....

I have the following APT repositories on my sources which I believe are causing my problem:

Code: Select alldeb http://dh2k.omv-extras.org/debian/ stoneburner-miller main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/ppa/ubuntu precise main

They were added through OpenMediaVault's interface when I enabled some checkboxes to be able to install Deluge.

Debian :: Apt In Wheezy Not Downloading Package List From 'all' Group

Mar 23, 2011

For some odd reason in wheezy it's not downloading the packages in the 'all' architecture, this leads to interesting issues when it comes to things like installing chromium and other packages that aren't built for one particular architecture. I've only noticed this in wheezy, and i'm not sure if this is normal. If there is any easy way to fix this, I'd be more than happy to hear. When i try to do an apt-get update, it only downloads from amd64 and not all. I've tried the mit mirror, and also the one shown there or well the default one but it still doesn't seem to be working right.

Debian Multimedia :: Package Conflict With KDE And Xfce (wheezy)

Jul 27, 2011

I have Xfce installed on wheezy, and I was planning on installing some KDE components for kicks. When I tried to install kdebase-workspace I got this error from aptitude The following NEW packages will be installed:

[Code]...

The following packages are RECOMMENDED but will NOT be installed: kinfocenter plasma-scriptengines policykit-1-gnome polkit-kde-1 upower 0 packages upgraded, 30 newly installed, 0 to remove and 49 not upgraded.
Need to get 78.5 MB of archives. After unpacking 137 MB will be used. The following packages have unmet dependencies: xfce4-notifyd: Conflicts: notification-daemon but it is not going to be installed.

If it's not going to be installed, then where is the conflict? I've seen "Depends: X but it is not going to be installed", which makes sense. The only solutions are to remove xfce4-notifyd or to keep most of the KDE stuff uninstalled. apt-get also wants to remove xfce4-notifyd. Edit: Ok, it looks like both plasma-widgets-workspace and xfce4-notifyd provide notification-daemon, but I still don't understand why the aptitude error doesn't tell me that xfce4-notifyd conflicts with plasma-widgets-workspace instead of notification-daemon.

Server :: Some Options In System-config-samba Dialog Are Not Working Properly?

Apr 13, 2010

I am using Fedora 12. I have the following problem, when i working with system-config-samba dialog:I add the new user on the server:as following:

Unix username: vova
Windows username:test

As described in Customisation Guide for Red Hat 9: "If the user has a different username on a Windows machine and will be logging into the Samba serverfrom the Windows machine, specify that Windows username in the Windows Username field."So i logged from the Windows machine not under test(Windows username) but under vova. And i logged in without the problem. However it seems that samba should check windows username=test (as have written in samba-config) and ask an password for different users. And additionally, if samba check the currect user in Windows itself and verify it with Unix user, what for we need write the Windows username in samba config? I don't understand

Debian Installation :: Install Wheezy On Any System With Either AMD / ATI 68xx Or 69xx Card?

Has anyone had any luck in trying to install wheezy (latest testing snapshot available) on any system with either a AMD/ATI 68xx or 69xx card? All goes well in the install, but on reboot, all that is seen is a "_" and no text, and it hard locks.I am pretty sure this is a conflict with the video card drivers that get installed by default (and which should be blacklisted), but I have no idea how to fix it.The recovery mode don't work either, it is the same "_" with no text, and it ends up hard locking. There is no chance at getting access to a console at all.

Debian Configuration :: Wireless Config With System In Testing?

Nov 8, 2015

I'm trying to set up my Intel Wireless 3945ABG (which is supported in the kernel) and I don't understand where to start if I want to use systemd to do this.

I've installed my Debian (Stretch Alpha4) base system using the wireless to download the necessary components but when I boot into the system I need to set up the wireless card separately.

I would prefer to be able to install wireless without the requirement of connecting via ethernet so no package installs other than what is downloaded by the installer.

I can't even find documentation on this specific issue because everyone seems to reference /etc/network/interfaces which AFAIK is not supported in systemd. How do I configure a wireless card using only systemd?

Debian Configuration :: Standardizing System Account UID/GIDs To Allow Shared Config

Feb 6, 2010

I run a network with about twenty Debian systems, currently running Etch. I maintain a central passwd and group file, which is regularly copied to each system. This works fairly well, but I have some problems with the system account UIDs and GIDs.

I find different systems often pick different UID and GID values for system accounts like bind, ntp, sshd etc. I think the values chosen at install come from the system UID and GID ranges, and are allocated sequentially, so the values on a system depend on which packages were installed, and the order they were installed in.

Is there any way to specify the UID and GIDs for system accounts at installation time? Are there any other thoughts on how to implement shared passwd and group files (apart from NIS, which I don't want to use)?

Debian :: Load On Idle System

Nov 2, 2015

I had noticed that my workstation (running debian testing) is having a constant load of about 0.9 (+/-0.1), even while the system is completly idle. The system starts with a normal load and then goes up to about 0.9 within a few minutes and then will stay there forever (well it can get higher, but never lower). This is the load graph after the system runs some time: URL....

I have tried everything I know to find the cultprint but there is no cpu usage and no io usage. I even have disabled the desktop and still have this problem. Also I have tried booting an older Kernel (4.1 and 3.16) with no difference in the load. Here is some information about my system:

Code: Select all» uname -a

On my old system when I quit out and load top, it automatically loads up my settings from the ~/.toprc file - I dont recall setting this up at all, but maybe I have and just dont rememmber.Eitherway, on my new system it just ignores my toprc file. I can't see anything in the settings to choose a default file to load, and so am a bit confused by this issue.
