Slackware :: [Bug] Qtconfig Does Not Load Config On Startup / What To Do?

Apr 17, 2011

The program "qtconfig" does not load saved config on startup.

I just installed slackware-current from today's update (mirrored from ftp.slackware.com). The program "qtconfig" seems to have saved my changes to "~/.config/Trolltech.conf". However, after restarting qtconfig all options become the defaults.

I verified this in both the C locale and a UTF-8 locale.

Another computer of mine has a -current system from a few months ago and doesn't have this problem.

Slackware :: How To Save Needed Modules Config To Create .config?

Apr 9, 2011

I am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel 2.6.32.36. I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for 2.6.29.6-huge. Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.

My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)

Debian Multimedia :: VLC Fonts Can't Be Set With Qt4-qtconfig (Testing)

Feb 1, 2016

I've just set up an alternative testing installation starting from Jessie and I've instantly noticed that the appearance of VLC can't be set via the qt4-qtconfig application (as I've done so far in Wheezy and Jessie), in short VLC doens't respond at all to any setting changed in qtconfig .

Looking at the bug reports for qt4-qtconfig and particularly this one #564548 looks like there are indeed issues with qt4, and comment 17 states thatQt4 entered in "only security bugfixes" mode, so this won't be fixed.

Software :: Oxygen Theme Doesn't Appear In Qtconfig / Show That?

May 29, 2011

I have KDE 4.6.3 installed, but I'm not using KDE as my desktop (just Openbox).

For some reason, KDE's "Oxygen" theme isn't available in qtconfig. Also, KDE apps seem to be following the selection in qtconfig, not the one in KDE's System Settings.

I rember that before, qtconfig let you choose Oxygen, and KDE apps followed the choice in KDE System Settings (even if you were not using KDE).

Here's my .xinitrc code...

. What should I do to fix it?

OpenSUSE Install :: X COnfig Error Startup?

I really want KDE so I tried again Text install == hung near the end of the install after printers -- I assume trying to configure XRebooted no command line parameter at all ( no vga=) -- hung at login password screen (blank)Rebooted again with -- vga=normal 3 -- and got a text mode login prompt and successfully logged in -- now I can not find the page that talks about sax2 configuration from run mode 3. This video card needs to be set for VGA I think maybe vesa at 1024X768 16 colors (I succeeded at this under OpenBSD)I believe if necessary I can probably successfully edit the x config file but I would like to try the recommended approach first (as a non-root user as recommended) -- can anyone direct me to that page I cannot find again. It discussed 11.3 x config recovery with a section at the bottom for 11.2 and earlier

Server :: Top Doesn't Load Saved Config

Aug 5, 2010

I've been building up my second gentoo system, and I've found a strange issue with top. Basically I'll load it up, configure it how I want it, sorted by CPU, set the colours etc then I'll save the config via 'W'. On my old system when I quit out and load top, it automatically loads up my settings from the ~/.toprc file - I dont recall setting this up at all, but maybe I have and just dont rememmber.Eitherway, on my new system it just ignores my toprc file. I can't see anything in the settings to choose a default file to load, and so am a bit confused by this issue.

General :: Config Service Startup Options In Ubuntu?

Jan 23, 2011

I'm not used to using Ubuntu or Debian as a server. I'm more accustomed to Red Hat/Fedora ways and even Gentoo (yikes).

Under Red Hat installs, you can often configure most services that start from init using config files in /etc/sysconfig named by the service. Is there and equivalent thing under Ubuntu?

Specically I'm trying to control how the libvirtd and kvm processes are started as far as command line options go. I need to add the --listen option somewhere.

This was the case on CentOS 5.3 and on 5.4. I have tried removing the .vnc dir in the users home dir and re running vncserver so that it recreates it, I found this in the logs:

1. (nautilus:14718): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically
2.loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly.
3.This probably means there was an error in the creation of:

5. You should create this file by running pango-querymodules.

Ubuntu :: Can't Load Any OS At Startup

Jan 22, 2010

When I turn on the computer, the Grub2 shows up and asks me to choose what OS to start. And from today on, whatever I choose, I end up with nothing. When Linux (Ubuntu) is chosen, then the blinking logo is shown (depicting it's loading) and after some time I can only see a black screen. In case when Windows is chosen, the black screen appears immediately. Kive cd works fine but don't know what I could do with it. A week ago I changed a booting order in my BIOS, so that GRUB2 is loading very fast now. Then I also chose: sudo dkpg-reconfigure grub-pc and selected the disk that had my boot partition. For a week or so it worked fine.

Ubuntu :: 10.10 Startup Programs / Won't Load Preferences

Mar 16, 2011

I've found mentions of this problem in Lucid Lynx, but this is a recent development for my system, since I've been running Ubuntu since Gutsy Gibbon. On start up my gdm theme/icons appear for a second, but by the time I've entered my keyring password the theme reverts to the system default (what Synaptic package manager looks like). It also does not load my start up programs Gnome-Do and Screenlets. My theme only appears if I go into the Appearances menu, and Gnome-Do only starts if I pick it from the Accessories menu (and I've gone into Gnome-Do's preferences and clicked on "start GNOME-DO at login"). About once in a blue moon it will load everything correctly.

Ubuntu :: Booting But Doesn't Load The Startup GUI

May 2, 2011

I am still new to Ubuntu but I am having a problem when booting into Ubuntu 10.10. When I turn on the computer, after a few screens go by I see a boot manager giving me the option of:

1: Earlier Versions of Windows
2: Windows 7
3: Ubuntu

All OSes are working with no trouble. But when I try to boot into Ubuntu, I get another boot screen that states:

1: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-28-generic
2: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-28-generic (recovery mode)
3: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-22-generic
4: Ubuntu, Linux 2.6.35-22-generic (recovery mode)
5: Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda2)

When I choose 1 or 3, quite often it doesn't load up the startup GUI, it loads up some command line crap that I don't understand yet, where I type in reboot until I finally get Ubuntu loaded, this happens several times then finally works to the point I can log in. What could be going on, my install is inside Windows 7, not a full install if that matters. What is the difference between line 1 and 3?

I've added a document to /etc/init.d so that it may be loaded on startup, but it does not seem to work.
