Apr 7, 2009when i log in to a centos server, it shows me the last login ip. i wanna see the username. how can i realise that?

CentOS 5 Server :: Vsftpd: 530 Incorrect Login Regardless Of Username Used
Aug 14, 2009I am attempting to connect to VSFTPD via Filezilla from a windows machine, but regardless of which user name I use I get a "530 Login incorrect" error. I have tried turning off the firewalls on both the CentOS and Windows side of things with no result. I disabled the SSL/TLS commands in the config file, also with no change. I tried a couple of different FTP clients, but got similar results regardless of which client I used. I have been going over man pages and documentation for a couple of days now, but cannot come up with an answer. I suspect it lies in my configuration, but I got the same results when I reverted my config file back to the original. what else I can do? One other note is that I am attempting to connect via a LAN, at this point I don't care if it works across the WAN as I only intend to use it to upload files to my web server.

Apr 18, 2011I have a problem regarding the ubuntu enterprise cloud. I have installed CC,CLC,SC,NC and a client and logged into thje user interface using my browser for the first time with bith username and passwd as admin and downloaded the credentials.But now as I try to login with the same username and passwd, it says that its an invalid login. I understand we have to change the password on the first login but i don't remember doing the same.
I tried recover password option and gave the user name as admin and email address as my gmail id. It says that I have to follow the instructions sent to the mail, but there is no mail sent I have done it like 5 or 6 times with different mail ids

Nov 3, 2010I recently installed vsftpd on my server. I noticed that users on the machine can login into vsftpd with their username and password on the machine and go to their root dir "/home/username".Now, I want to give some people a vsftpd username and password so they can upload and download files and folders to their folder, but this folder has to be in the "/var/www/(username)" folder. I don't want them to be able to go to any other folder than their own folder like "/var", "/etc" or "/home" etc. Also I don't want them to be able to login on the machine as a user, through putty for example. They should only be allowed to acces their folder with vsftpd, nothing else.

Oct 20, 2010I'm having a hard time installing Ubuntu 10.10 (32bits). I load the CD and everything's ok throughout the installing procedure, but when the installation is over and it says it's gonna reboot it doesn't do it!
The screen resembles a terminal with a message like "the computer is going to reboot NOW!" but it could stay like that for hours. The keyboard is locked so I can't reboot by commands, and if I press CTRL+ALT+DEL it just reprints the same message. Therefore I'm forced to turn off my computer manually.
After that, the Ubuntu desktop doesn't load. The screen shows a terminal asking for my username and password to access the computer. No graphics at all.
Fedora :: Shows Login Seems To Be Right - But It Doesn't Login Normally ?
Nov 21, 2010I just added "export PATH=.:'printevn PATH'" to ~/.bashrc, then i can't use any commands, like "vim" or 'ls', it shows 'command not found'.
I cound't figure it out why. Then I logged out and tried to login. Another more serious problem occurred. after I type in login id and pass, it shows login seems to be right, but it doesn't login normally, but immediately bring me back to the login dialog box, and ask me to type log info again. I tried many times, it just constantly brought me back to the login page.
OpenSUSE Install :: Cannot Login Under An Username
Apr 25, 2010Been using 11.2 for a couple of months now, mostly I've solved my own problems or read from some preexisting already solved problems on threads like these. But, I'm not even sure where to start with this one. I cannot login under my main username, the account is set to autologin, and I get the login screen instead. When I attempt to login I get a black screen for about a second then it bumps me back to the login screen, no error messages. I'm able to login under runlevel 3, but as soon as I try to "init 5" it bumps me out and back to the login screen.
Root account works fine, and I used it to create a secondary account from which I am posting from right now. The behavior started after the system put the display to sleep while I was watching a movie in VLC, I woke it up just as it turned completely black, it hung there and I was forced to hard reboot. Had the problem ever since (for several hours now, lol).
I use Gnome but I installed KDE to see if it would resolve my problem, but no dice.
Debian :: Safest Way To Change A Username / Login Name
Apr 6, 2010I would like to change my username (or login name) and am wondering what the safest route to do so is. The install is on a headless server, which I just use ssh.There's a) using usermod -l newname oldname. The line in the usermod man that says that changing the login name doesn't change anything else, which makes me think that something else is bound to break. I've also considered b) creating a new user, moving the contents of my home directory to the new user, and deleting the old user. This is kind of cumbersome, but would this be the recommended way to ensure everything goes well (considering I still have to redo some config files).

I go to log in and the login screen is different. And it doesn't have the user-name that I used saved. So I don't remember my user-name for ubunutu. While I like to new login screen (I was using a face based theme previously), I am stumped on how to control the order that the user names are presented.
As best I can tell, they are presented in the order who logs in most frequently. While that makes a certain amount of sense, I would like to be able to force the list to remain alphabetical.
Is there any way to control this, and if so, where?

Jun 22, 2010When I login, all I get is a terminal in the upper left-hand corner of the screen with the wallpaper in the background.
I uninstalled what I thought were random orphaned packages relating to evolution (evolution-data-common, etc..) Turns out that this uninstalls gnome-panel as well, although it didn't warn me. Reinstall gnome-panel and it will reinstall the required packages (you can still run synaptic from terminal!)
Ubuntu :: Login Cycle Loop After Username / Password Entered
Aug 12, 2010The login cycles- I already have a problem with mounting something connected with USB (long term minor annoyance, but everything works), but suddenly I cannot log in. When I put my username and password in, the screen flashes black for about half a second, then the login screen re-appears. If I put the wrong password in, I get an authentication error message (as expected) without turning black and then cycling again.
I have no problems going into terminal mode and logging in. I've tried all sorts of suggestions related to this problem- reinstalling ubuntu-desktop, apt-get clean, sudo startx, and the last indicates that x-windows is already running. I've found a couple more things to try, but I'm not too sure how well they'll work. It seems to be connected with x-windows, but I don't know what is causing it. Last night I had a big problem that required reinstalling nautilus (couldn't set up a connection to a remote server), and that problem was fixed- but this developed when I booted this morning.

I can't change my system time, shutdown or reboot under system or my username in the top right hand corner. I have to su and manually type reboot or shutdown to shutdown. It is like the computer is completely restricting me from using it.

I noticed that home folder sharing is quite easy as I just need to change the smb.conf file to enable it. However I can't seem to login anyway. It seems that Samba keeps its own records of username and passwords. Is there a way that I can map/sync the Linux users' usernames and passwords automatically to Samba? The end result should be that whenever I add a new user or a user changes his/her Linux login password,Samba automatically changes its password as well.

Mar 24, 2010My daughter from New Zealand gave me her Acer Aspire 4315 Laptop/Notebook Linux System in December 2009 so that I could use it in bed on days that I was unable to get out to use my main computer as I am a very ill man. I was able to log into the unit as she just said to me to use her name and password to. I have been able to use the unit on the internet at home and my other daughters home through a home wireless system. I clicked on the Upgrade Icon which it did, I think it went from a 7. something to 8.something All the way through the set up it asked me questions and I just clicked yes thinking that was what I had to do. My problem now is, that when I turn the unit on it asks me for a username and password. I put the details my daughter gave me but it tells me invalid user and password. All I do know is that a friend of my daughter installed the Ubuntu Program onto the Laptop/Notebook. Can anyone tell me how or what I have to do now to be able to use the unit again as I am getting very frustrated with the whole thing. I am not used to using Ubuntu and am totally lost with it as I have always been a Microsoft user.

Sep 14, 2010Everything looks fine until when the login screen should show up but doesn't. The cursor is there and can move. I can switch to terminal by ctl-alt-F*, and login. After gdm stop and startx, gnome is back but only in fail safe mode, with non-movable non-resizable window, only one workspace, and cursor is a black cross.
I ever met a similar case before, which comes to the login screen but it keeps reloading after entering password. Finally got solved by run sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop in terminal. This time it doesn't work anymore.

Jan 11, 2010I don't know what caused it, but as I boot into Ubuntu (9.10), the login screen never appears. Boot splash shows,then the cursor shows up but never the login screen. I haven't found anything that will reset the default gdm or login screen that works.

Last login: Sun May 1 08:45:53 2011 from 192.168.10.198 At first I only notices the 5 packages can be updated. But after runing apt-get update and upgrade as well as trying aptitude full-upgrade without any packages being updated I noticed the sysinfo actually showing two different days. Any idea on how to get rid of the second one?

Oct 28, 2010Well this problem has been here since Lucid. When I start up my computer and select Ubuntu, I get a blinking underscore for about most of the start up time for Ubuntu. Then It quickly shows the nice Ubuntu Loading Screen (Plymouth) for about two seconds, then it gets to the login screen. I am using the Open Source ATI drivers, I believe the open drivers are called "radeon".

Nov 29, 2010So I have installed LXDE on my SuSE install to have a addition to the GNOME desktop. The installation went fine (of course). But I'm now faced with a problem with the transparency in LXDE, I have a box around my cairo-dock with a piece of my login screen background (looks like the well-known black-box bug. See Screen shot). This is a bit strange and I've been looking at the solutions for the black-box bug since I've had it before, but have not found a way to sort this yetv(though i have found many solutions for the black-box bug itself).
But, not only is this box around cairo-dock, the rest of the transparency in LXDE also shows the login screen background. See screen shot. Screen shot: [URL] As you can see, i haven't had time to work on the eye-candy yet.
