My connection manager shows wired connections and shows wireless as being disabled. here is some terminal info getting wireless going?
Here is a bunch of things I have tried and the results.

I've installed ubuntu 10.04 on a hp mini 110. I've used netbook remix on this same computer and had no problems with a wireless connection. In this case, network manager shows wireless disabled. I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.
I remember that I did configure my desktop PC for wired and wireless connections since openSUSE 11.2, 11.3 and 11.4. Currently I have openSUSE11.4 x86_64 KDE. Today I happen to notice that the icon for NetworkManager in the taskbar has been replaced with a red X. I discovered that Network Manager only shows VPN tab, whereas Wired and Wireless tabs are greyed out. The strange thing is I still have Internet connection with the CAT5 cable being plugged in. I can still configure wired and wireless connections via YAST but I cannot fix Network Manager settings.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed ubuntu 10 on a thinkpad t410. At first everything worked swimmingly, INCLUDING the wireless. After about five minutes, the wireless stopped working, in that it seemed to think it was still connected but pinging didn't work. I've now restarted several times, and each time I restart, the wireless works for about 1 minute, then stops working. If I try to disconnect and reconnect it will not reconnect (until I restart, that is).
iwconfig shows the correct ESSID and ifconfig shows an address, and "connection information" shows a varying percentage of connection.
So, after installing Lucid wireless doesn't work for me. When I click on the network icon on the status bar, it shows "wireless is disabled".
With that message, I press the wifi button on my HP laptop and it turns off my blue-tooth, without changing the status of my wifi.

Just had an issue crop up where connecting wired network seems to stop wireless connections from getting an IP (happens on multiple networks both while the cable is plugged in and once it's been unplugged; also persists across reboots). Machine is a Dell Latitude 2120n with UnionFS running. Connection was working fine prior to the wired connection
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.

However it does not get an ip address from the DHCP server. Below is what I get in the messages log:

The Network Manager shows (under Wired Networks) ifupdown(eth0) - I've never seen the "ifupdown" here. Wireless shows as disabled.
When I boot I see a few of these:
But I get No DHCPOFFERS received. So, Wireless is disabled.
Fresh install of squeeze gnome, completely updated.
My network connection is working fine, but the Network Manager in the system tray shows "no network connection."
When using the live dvd, and during the install, it showed that it was connected.

I was using my usb Alfa AWUS036H-v5 usb wifi card, and then after I rebooted, it randomly stopped working.. did some searching on the site, one idea was to do

which I did, and it shows my internal wifi card (iwl3945) working fine, but says my wlan7 (Alfa usb) as:

Also, in the upper right hand corner, the antenna is greyed out and says "Device Not Ready"
I messed up my Network Connections when I put a different NIC in my computer. Now I just went back to using the old NIC. It shows up in ifconfig, but the GUI Network Connections is blank. So i installed ubuntu 10.04 on my Hp dv9000 and all went well, then a few days after it asked if i wanted to update to 10.10 so i did and this is where things went kookie.
After i installed i noticed my wifi was all screwy. It would connect but kick me off after several mins of use. I installed WICD hoping that would fix the problem but it didnt. internet work for a few min and then just suddenly cuts out and i have to restart to reconnect because it shows no networks in the manager?
i use Huawei usb modem as default connection device , Why i have to connect and disconnect my usb many times to work properly? when i start my PC i have to connect and disconnect the usb about 5 or 6 times to get a connection to the Internet, the icon above shows that every time i get a successful connection but really i don't have it. i have to do it many times to get the connection actually established and the Internet truly works

Has anybody else experienced this phenomenon? (I googled and searched LQ but couldn't find anybody else reporting this)Is netstat broken, or is there another explanation?
My current network setup at home is all wired, and that's worked for me so far. Now I want to set up a wireless connection on my Linux box that I can connect to with both my laptop and my Nintendo DS. I'd like to be able to host a wireless network from the Linux box, connect to it with some other wireless device, and have the wireless device communicate with the router, the internet, and other computers on the wired network. I have the wired network set up (statically configured) as eth0. Other network adapters present on the system are eth1 (not in use) and wlan0, wlan1, and wlan2 (identical cards, remnants from the last time I experimented with wireless).
So I guess my question comes in two parts:
1) How do I set up wlan0 such that it can host? Is Ad-hoc mode okay for this, or do I need to set it up in Master mode?
2) How do I forward connections between the wireless net and the router?
Note that I will be using WEP, as it is all that the NDS supports. I'd like to set up MAC filtering as well, but not until after I get something that works.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell 710m. Fresh install of OS yesterday. Initially I had wired connection but no wireless. So I started chasing threads & trying different downloads & commands [WITHOUT KNOWING essentially what I was doing; throw your rocks at me HERE] & now I have lost the wired connection also.
Also:
[a] If I go into System > Administration > Additional Drivers, I get "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system."
[b] As far as being able to copy a downloaded driver [using a working M$oft machine with net connection] onto an SD card & transferring that driver to the Dell laptop, I have tried formatting 3 different SD cards with the Dell, & each time I come up with various failure errors--& I have no idea why something as simple as formatting an SD card isn't working.

I'm having trouble getting this wireless card to work. I installed the broadcom-wl driver on Fedora 12.

The card is recognized by System--admin--network as the correct card (BCM43XG) and assigned eth1. However, NetworkManager shows no wireless network. I have a great signal on the same machine if I boot into a Windows partition.
Ubuntu 10.04 fresh install 64bit. Wireless was working in 9.10, now does not even show up in restricted drivers. Installed bcwl-kernel-source, and b43-fwcutter. ifconfig, iwconfig only show eth0 and lo - no wlan
Other restricted drivers show up - using NVIDIA driver with Compiz running better than ever on 2 screens

I do notice that in the firmware section that both b43 and b43legacy are listed. Somewhere I reads that I should be using b43 - not the legacy version. Should it be blacklisted?
I've installed backtrack 3 in a vmware machine also i'm using a tp link adapter for to do it this is the model tl- wn422g 54 mbps high gain i have wifi internet i can surf the internet (inside backtrack) but the problem starts when i type in the kernel console airmon-ng nothing appears in interface channel etc then i try iw config and also nothing detects and it's frustrating because i'm connected to the internet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed CentOS 5.4 on my desktop yesterday after facing crashes from Ubuntu 9.04 Everything worked fine and few didn't which I could resolve, but this problem is absolutely strange to me. I've USB wireless adaptor Belkin F5D7050 v4000 which uses a zydas zd1211 chipset. The problem is that I've not been able to connect to internet or even in the local network. (I've this another Laptop (Windows Vista) which can connect to internet and thus I can post and download stuff.)
I read the CentOS wiki [URL] to setup the wireless network and it asked me to download a firmware for it.. I downloaded and installed the firmware from the specified location but to no respite and I can't connect to network. now the strange thing is the result of iwconfig which was here even before installing the firmware. iwconfig shows

I looked through the forum and found these commands to put in the terminal from other posts. Could someone please see if they can fathom what I've done wrong. I have an wG111v2 netgear usb which works fine in windows but is very sluggish on Ubuntu. It worked for a while but since i have deleted and reinstalled my wireless numerous times I now can't get iternet at all. I have Ubuntu 9.10 on my machine which I duel boot with winXP.

I've tried to configure :
- a wired network
- a wireless network
- a mobile broadband network as both "system connection" and "automatic connection".
I need to have a laptop that will try to connect as sson as I plug the ethernet cable in or as soon as it senses a certain SSID or as soon as there's a mobile broadband device plugged into a USB port. Non-system connections are working but I am not willing the actual user (non-admin) to read the WPA2 key or the SIM PIN. But the check box for the system connection is disabled. And running "sudo kcmshell4 --icon networkmanager kcm_networkmanagement kcm_networkmanagement_tray" doesn't result in a system connection.
