i have a little problem i use ubuntu on my htpc, which is connected to a LG Plasma 42 the playback from smplayer is ok, but after some minutes, let's say, 30 the TV goes to black and shows "no image detected", then i have to move the mouse in order to recover the image imagine that in the middle of a movie (a great movie, like THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS) what can i do?

I used to have a working vlc. Then I added debian-multimedia to my sources.list and installed several other movie players (kplayer, kaffeine,). As a result, my vlc no longer works: When I run it to display a movie (any movie, I tried several) I get the sound OK, but there is no image, and the window stays small (like when playing a sound file). How do I get vlc to display movies again?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just used EasyTAG 2.1.5 under Ubuntu 9.10 to update the tags on my music files running on Rhythmbox 0.12.5, and now Rhythmbox shows that the runtimes (Time) of dozens of my mp3's are now 27:03:11. That means Rhythmbox thinks all those songs are 27 hours, 3 minutes, and 11 seconds long, which they are not. Some are now shown as 54:06:23. So far they are all playing correctly, but the slider at the top of the Rhythmbox window barely moves, making it difficult, if not impossible, to jump to different points in the songs. Nothing else seems to have been affected.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi'm running 11.2 kde 4.3. i'm having issues with both smplayer and vlc. first, when i play an audio cd through smplayer, it pauses every 14-15 second. by pause i mean that the sound and time counter stops, and i actually hear the disc drive make a sound, the *typical disc-read sound. i tried a few discs, in case it was a specific cd; same thing for all. i also looked through the preferences to see if there was a setting that addressed it; nothing i see seems to address the issue.
playing the same cds in kscd works fine. but kscd really sucks....excuse me, it really really sucks. with vlc, whenever i start vlc, it will appear in my taskbar, but there is no other sign of its existence besides this. no system tray icon, no gui or any other sign of its presence besides the taskbar.
I restored my .kde directory after changing some stuff unrelated to my clock and now all plasma clocks are exactly 5 hours faster than my system time (the correct time).I've set the time zone for Date&Time in System Settings properly and that's working well and I've ALSO gone into the time zone settings for the plasma widgets and switched between UTC and Local manually but that doesn't do anything.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe desktop stops working, the panel stops working.. but compositing, desktop cube etc all work fine.I can still launch a program with Alt-F2.When I try and kill it (to restart) using 'killall plasma' / 'kill -9 <pid> / 'kill -15 pid' from a terminal, nothing happens, the process keeps running. If I leave it for about 30 mins it suddenly dies, allowing me to run 'plasma' from a terminal - then everything is back to normal.
If I log out and try to log back in again, I get a black screen. Only way to fix it is either to kill it and wait for 30 mins or so, or totally reboot the computer.Tail of the xsessions error file:

However, sound keeps disappearing in smplayer and won't come back until I reboot. Sound is still present in all other players including mplayer.
Running smplayer from the command line gives no output so I don't know what night be wrong. Volume is at max and not muted.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and have it hooked up to my HDTV. My GPU is an 8600 GT and I am using the current nvidia driver. Mother board is GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H, CPU is AMD 4850e, using 2x1G ram 800MHz. Everything I have installed on it comes straight through Synaptic. Smplayer seems to work fine with the VDPAU selected (cpu usage is nice and low during HD playback), but there is a slight problem that really annoys. Every 2-3 seconds the picture seems to have the hiccups, its as though it gets stuck on one frame for a split second and then jumps to the next.

View 1 Replies View RelatedHad ubuntu 10.10, sound worked fine. wiped that, installed xubuntu 11.04, sound worked fine with banshee. had some stability issues, so i then installed xubuntu 10.10. now, on the fresh install, i only have sound from smplayer when playing videos. NO sound from banshee, vlc(videos or otherwise), parole, or exaile. neither when IEC959 is active no disabled.
here is a screenshot of alsamixer showing that volume is up, and un-muted. and the xfce4-mixer as well.however, the upper right panel indicator looks like a mute symbol, or at least a no volume symbol. ive tried removing, purging, then re-installing banshee multiple times. ive checked the other sound cards listed in xfce4-mixer; they are all un-muted (found this on a couple forums, fixed this problem for a few people, but not me!). What can I do?

the dialog for "open with other application" is broken in that you cannot use 'remember this application for "AVI Video" files'. they always open with Totem. while totem is very capable, it lags at times and sometimes loses the stream if the lag is too long, while smplayer is not as finicky. besides, smplayer has more options that i require.i wish dearly to be able to double click an avi/mkv/etc video file and have it open in smplayer. are there instructions somewhere to do this? i have searched extensively, but there are too many threads that are similar that don't answer my question.

Now I can play back these files perfectly with mplayer from teh command line but when I open them with smplayer there is no video, just (choppy) sound. Xine also plays them back now although it didn't before. I know the first time I ran smplayer on this installation I had to choose which version of mplayer it was running with but don't know if I can do this again to tell it to use the installed medibuntu mplayer. Once the drop-down menu animation has completed, the video playback will play normally. This happens when using VDPAU to play back H.264 MKV files. Audio playback of the video is never interrupted. why VDPAU will not play nice with SMplayer & Compiz?

The sound device is just shown as "default" but I have no idea what that is.I have just downloaded another file and when I clicked on it SMPlayer opened and started to play but there was no sound.
Wondered why SMPlayer started instead of VLC and saw that the newest file was .mp4, however SMPlayer doesn't give any sound with the .flv videos either, on the other hand VLC plays .mp4 files too with sound.However when I searched for the suggested file I couldn't find it but before I go any further, is this a real problem or could it be due to having the sound turned off from the keyboard? .

There is an option to have SMplayer to do so within the settings menubut that does nothing, screensaver is still being activated after 5 min. Anyone managed to have the player do this? When VDPAU is enabled every video file gives the same error (see log at the end; don't mind the extra channel entries, they're for converting AAC to AC3 on-the-fly).
