CentOS 5 Hardware :: Wireless - Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000?
Jul 12, 2011
I'm releaving a HP Probook 4710S from it's native Vista) First of all let me say I'm happy because CentOs 5.6 handles it's Ati Radeon graphic flawlessly, unlike other Distro's I tried on this type of machine. So thumbs up for CentOs! But now I've come to a stop on the wireless card.

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on a thinkpad X201. Wireless was working, but has stopped. It still works in windows, so it is not a hardware problem. iwlist wlan0 scan sees the available networks, but I cannot associate with any of them, including my own.
Last night was my first attempt to connect to a secured network, and nm-applet failed to make the connection even after entering the WEP encryption key and SSID. By turning networking off in nm-applet I was able to manually bring up the connection by editing /etc/network/interfaces and using ifup wlan0. (nm-applet seemed to be interfering as long as networking was turned on there.) Wireless was working perfectly until I rebooted. Now I can't get it to work at all. (There were some partially completed security updates which completed when I rebooted. I hope this wasn't the cause of the breakdown.)I notice that wpa_supplicant is always running. I tried killing it in case it might be interfering with the connection process, but something keeps restarting it.

My wireless card is:
Code:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [8086:0083]
On Fedora 15, when I boot kernel 2.6.40, my laptop is unable to connect to my wireless-G AP. dmesg shows the following:
Code:
[ 43.866090] wlan0: direct probe to 00:27:19:14:c2:ca (try 1/3)
[Code].....
It works fine, however, when I boot using kernel 2.6.38 (from which I am posting) and in Windows. Also, I found some emails from the linux-wireless mailing list which appear to be talking about the same problem.
The system is fully updated. I've tried the 11n_disable=1 hint I came across on the ThinkPad wiki, but it didn't help. (I'm on an Asus K42Ja, in case it's relevant)
Although I'm fine with staying at 2.6.38 for now, are there workarounds/fixes for this?

I just got a new laptop equipped with some weird (at the present) hardware.
=> Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N100
=> Atheros Communication Device 1083
During the squeeze install no network harware was detected. (no wired, no wireless) On the net I read the wireless-N100 should be supported from the kernel 2.6.37 At last I tried Ubuntu 11.04 (LIVE) and the wifi was working. I also tried Fedora 15 (LIVE) and the wifi was also working. (kernel 2.6.38)But I want to stick to Debian (I am using it since Potato) What could I do to get at least the Wireless-N100 working ?

Alright this is my first post on here and I hope I got sufficient Information for you available. I ran Ubuntu based Distros before but this is the first time under a Debian based Distro for me. I got a newlaptop and this one does not seem to let me get my wireless to work after multiple efforts
My problem: My Intel Centrino N-6300 () does not seem to find any network connections.
My previous attempts: (Some of which required me to reinstall Suse)
1. I installed new kernels as my first assumption was that the kernel was not supporting it. I know now that it is supported.
2. I installed drivers from http://intellinuxwireless.org/ which was pointless.
3. I installed backports (THat was still under Linux Mint. Same problem there.)
4. I tried NDiswrapper without success.
5. I checked rfkill as you can see further down below.
Alright here are some of my info's I have collected so far. Let me know if anything is missing.
RFkill:
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no

I have a new Thinkpad t510 laptop with an intel centrino wireless N card (no bluetooth). I installed ubuntu a couple weeks ago after I got another hard drive in the expansion bay. I have the drive partitioned into two sections, 250gb for file storage, and 250gb for the linux OS. Currently no other OS is installed on the other harddrive.
I have had everything perfect for the past couple weeks, but once i installed some updates today, my wireless fails to work now. Just some general info that you might ask me, lspci | grep Network, returns
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 06) 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 Furthermore, on the top right of my screen, my wireless is grey'd out and says no network devices available on hover.

Im trying to connect to my college wireless network. I have looked a thinkwiki and no one has posted any bugs. Any ideas on getting it working again?

I'm running Linux 11.04 and my wireless network was working just fine until today. I cannot connect to WiFi - it acts as if the device wasn't there. The hardware switch led isn't working. No matter how much clicking on it, it won't work.

what is really a rant disguised as a question, but does anyone have this combination working? My NetGear router shows the connection as allowed from the MAC address in the router logs, And I can see the network I want to join in the list of visible networks from the laptop, but dmesg shows Ubuntu disconnecting with
WPA-PSK [TKIP] only:
wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=15)
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3)
I'm sure there is a simple explantion that has been sufficiently buried somewhere but after several hours of googling and searching the forums here I can't find it. Anyone want to help out an old man RTFM?
I'm getting really disappointed here lately - things are getting worse, not better. In my case in particular I have this laptop with supposedly open and supported drivers and they don't work, however, the exact same distributuon on a Dell D830 with a broadcom NIC does. under 8.10 and 9.04 this worked out the box - just logged in, gave the PSK and away we went. I can't see the attachment I just uploaded so to include the information requested in the "how to get help" post, I'll put it all here inline...

I have been getting from my wireless adapter. This has been going on for quite some time but only now am I able to see a pattern. The behavior seems to be the following: Start up, connects to network and work fine until I suspend my machine. On wake up, it works again but after a seemingly random amount of time the connection is lost and I can no longer find any networks. Attached is dmesg output after startup and connecting to a wireless network (dmesgAfterConecting.txt) and the same after the connection has been lost (dmesgAfterConnectLost.txt). I get this error which seems important:

I've noticed that my wifi connection is significantly slower than my wired connection. Obviously wired is always faster, but when I boot in to windoze or use Mac, the difference between wired and wifi is negligible. I'm running Debian 8 testing on a Lenovo X201 with Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak] network card.

I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.
10:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 1000
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 29
Memory at e4000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
[code]....
I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.

I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

The wireless on my 64-bit openSUSE-11.2 installed on my Dell Studio 1537 laptop stopped working some time back (possibly more than a one or two months back). I just discovered this last week when on business. I have not used the wireless under openSUSE-11.2 for a while so I am not certain what broke it, but I am suspicious of an update. I note openSUSE-11.3 milestone-7 works great with the wireless (on a liveCD). I note possibly two related threads, although I note no failed request for firmware in my case:request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2] - openSUSE Forums, and I see another thread here: Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums... but I can not tell if what I have is the same problem, so I did not add to those threads. In my case I can scan for the network, and see the SSID. An ip address is assigned. But a ping does not work.
Some details, the wireless is:
Code:
04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection [8086:4235]
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1121]
Kernel driver in use: iwlagn
In terms of installed apps:
Code:
rpm -qa '*wireless*'
wireless-tools-30.pre8-5.1.x86_64
wireless-regdb-2009.09.08-2.2.noarch
[code]....
I know the router wireless network is good, because I can connect to the router via wireless with another laptop (old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M with older Intel wireless), and the router wireless also works with this Dell Studio 1537 PC (with same hardware) but with openSUSE-11.3 milestone7 version.

Wireless Card
07:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43225 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)
If you haven't added any repositories to your system you will need to do so before using zypper to install the required packages below. (instruction on how to do this under heading add repositories below)
Short Fix (This fix works if you haven't already installed b43-fwcutter firmware, and the b43, ssb kernel drivers are not load.)
zypper remove b43-fwcutter
zypper in broadcom-wl broadcom-wl-kmp-desktop
modprobe wl
reboot (and wifi worked after I activated it using FN F3 to turn it on)
Long fix if required
code....
List of Repo's I have added
1. main (contrib)
2. Mozilla
3. Packman
4. Wine
5. Kde Extra's
Packman and Main (contrib) are the most likely sources of the required files.
Once you have added these you should be good to install the required files.
One final note, I had to use an external usb wifi card to connect to the internet to add the repo's and download the required software. Lan card support coming in 2.6.38 kernel (it is suppose to add a driver for our lan card).

This is my first post! I am a brand new Linux fan and am determined to understand how this system works! I am running Fedora 11. My wired NIC works just fine. I am having problems with wireless. I ran lspci -v to find my driver details, found it online and got it working so it would show up in the network configuration. I am having problems getting it to work from there. I am used to getting windows to install the driver and then being able to search for wireless networks. When I try to activate it i get:
