OpenSUSE Wireless :: Intel PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN Stopped Working For 11.2?
Jun 6, 2010
The wireless on my 64-bit openSUSE-11.2 installed on my Dell Studio 1537 laptop stopped working some time back (possibly more than a one or two months back). I just discovered this last week when on business. I have not used the wireless under openSUSE-11.2 for a while so I am not certain what broke it, but I am suspicious of an update. I note openSUSE-11.3 milestone-7 works great with the wireless (on a liveCD). I note possibly two related threads, although I note no failed request for firmware in my case:request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2] - openSUSE Forums, and I see another thread here: Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums... but I can not tell if what I have is the same problem, so I did not add to those threads. In my case I can scan for the network, and see the SSID. An ip address is assigned. But a ping does not work.
Some details, the wireless is:
Code:
04:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection [8086:4235]
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device [8086:1121]
Kernel driver in use: iwlagn
In terms of installed apps:
Code:
rpm -qa '*wireless*'
wireless-tools-30.pre8-5.1.x86_64
wireless-regdb-2009.09.08-2.2.noarch
[code]....
I know the router wireless network is good, because I can connect to the router via wireless with another laptop (old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M with older Intel wireless), and the router wireless also works with this Dell Studio 1537 PC (with same hardware) but with openSUSE-11.3 milestone7 version.

I have a Dell E6500 with and Intel 5300 wireless agn card running Lucid x64. Wireless works fine and speeds are great except when I download with either the browser or thru a torrent or even updates. Once I get to around 100 megs in to the file wireless stops working and the only way to get it working again is to disconnect and reconnect to the AP. I have installed the back ports and tried several other fixed to get this to work but nothing has helped. One more note this happens on 2 other wireless routers that I have tried so I know that it's not limited to my Linksys.

I can't get my card Intel Wireless 5300 AGN to work. I'm running Slackware 13.1 and it's a full, fresh install.I get to show up with lspci -v:Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5300 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection...But it will not show up with 'ifconfig' which will only list the local loopback (yes we have have a eth problem as well but one thing at a time).

Since I originally started using Ubuntu (10.04) I have had problems with my wireless card. Now I have updated to 10.10 and it has stopped working entirely. I am using a "Dell Vostro 1520" with an "Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN" wireless card. Here are the details: 10.04
In this distribution version, if I had the wireless switch on my laptop activated at startup my wireless card would refuse to activate. There is a light to show when it is activated and this was off, but I checked anyway and wireless capabilities don't work when it is in this state. It didn't even resolve the problem when I switched it off and on again (although this caused the wireless indicator to blink on for less than a second when switched on). This was manageable because I found two workarounds:
1. Wait until my laptop had logged into Ubuntu, then activate the wireless card which would start and work as it should.
2. If I had already logged into Ubuntu I could put my computer on standby, switch off the card, come out of standby and reactivate the card while Ubuntu was running. As I said, this was completely manageable, and I got used to it. 10.10
Now that I have upgraded to 10.10 all workarounds fail, I can't use a wireless connection in Ubuntu, as my card won't activate, I cant even get the light to blink as I could before. The only way I can use WiFi is by switching to Windows.I tend to use Ubuntu for my university programming work.

I have a new Thinkpad t510 laptop with an intel centrino wireless N card (no bluetooth). I installed ubuntu a couple weeks ago after I got another hard drive in the expansion bay. I have the drive partitioned into two sections, 250gb for file storage, and 250gb for the linux OS. Currently no other OS is installed on the other harddrive.
I have had everything perfect for the past couple weeks, but once i installed some updates today, my wireless fails to work now. Just some general info that you might ask me, lspci | grep Network, returns
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82577LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 06) 03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 Furthermore, on the top right of my screen, my wireless is grey'd out and says no network devices available on hover.

Im trying to connect to my college wireless network. I have looked a thinkwiki and no one has posted any bugs. Any ideas on getting it working again?

I'm new to linux. I've just installed Ubuntu 11.04. It has all been going ok, but the wireless just stopped working all of a sudden. The indicator light turned off and when I tried to turn it back on (Fn+F2) nothing happens. Sometimes, when I restart the computer, the wireless might work; but if the signal is lost the LED on my laptop turns off and I cannot reconnect. Also, in these strange cases that the wireless works when I restart I can manually turn it off (Fn+F2), but nothing happens when I try to switch it back on.
In the menu on the upper right corner I see 'Enable Networking' is checked, but 'Enable Wireless' cannot be modified.
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 and the wireless device is an Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG.
I have tried to follow some of the threads on this forum on similar cases, but the ones that were comprehensible to me did not work (or I actually might not have understood them either). code...

I am running openSUSE 11.3 updated with all the latest patches and I cannot connect to my wireless router. I am running Linux Mint 10 on the same type of notebook HP Compaq 6910p and it worked right after the install. If I take off the security WPA & WPA2 Personal I can connect. lspci -v | less shows this for my wireless card.
10:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG or AGN [Kedron] Network Connection (rev 61)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 1000
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 29
Memory at e4000000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
[code]....
I am using the same settings for both notebooks just can't figure out why openSUSE 11.3 won't connect. I get the prompt to key in my password, I've even checked the box to show password to make sure I was keying it in correctly. Everything was good but it just goes right back to the password prompt after it fails trying to connect.

I've got a Dell precision with Kubuntu 9.10. Wifi worked fine on that machine for months, but stopped working last week. I don't know what happened, but I recently did an "apt-get dist-upgrade". That might have something to do with it.
When I boot in Windows, wifi works fine.

My wireless worked out of the box for the past few months. When I was running low on battery recently, I put the laptop to sleep. When I woke it up, there was a black screen with a flashing underscore. I pressed a bunch of buttons but nothing happened. Then suddenly it said something about a wireless hardware error and I did a hard reset by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on, wireless was greyed out. There's no hardware switch to enable and disable wireless and the software switch had no effect. I tried echoing into the 'state' of the adapter but it didn't let me. When I tried sudo ifconfig wlan0 up it gave me the following error:
Code:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Unknown error 132

I have Ubuntu 10.10 on a thinkpad X201. Wireless was working, but has stopped. It still works in windows, so it is not a hardware problem. iwlist wlan0 scan sees the available networks, but I cannot associate with any of them, including my own.
Last night was my first attempt to connect to a secured network, and nm-applet failed to make the connection even after entering the WEP encryption key and SSID. By turning networking off in nm-applet I was able to manually bring up the connection by editing /etc/network/interfaces and using ifup wlan0. (nm-applet seemed to be interfering as long as networking was turned on there.) Wireless was working perfectly until I rebooted. Now I can't get it to work at all. (There were some partially completed security updates which completed when I rebooted. I hope this wasn't the cause of the breakdown.)I notice that wpa_supplicant is always running. I tried killing it in case it might be interfering with the connection process, but something keeps restarting it.

Ive installed Ubuntu recently but none of my attempts to get the wifi network working were successfull. It establishes connection but the indicator shows no signal and I cant connect to any website, I tried pinging external IPs etc. None of these worked. lspci -nn | grep 'Wireless Brand'Does not show anything. I could find 03:00:0 Network Controller: Intel Corporation Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 lsmod | grep "wlan_module_name"Doesnt show anything. Restarting network says only: *Reconfiguring network interfaces... Kernel boot messages:
[Code]....
The network Im trying to connect to is hidden, so I have to input SSID manually, I doubt this causes the problem.

I followed the sticky about setting up wireless and I have come to an issue where the WLAN switch which is on this computer can be pressed, the light comes on, but no WLAN. When I looked in dmesg, this is what I get:
ipw2100: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection
firmware: requesting ipw2100-1.3.fw
eth0: Radio is disabled by RF switch.
When running iwconfig wlan0 heres what I get:
home/j-dub # iwconfig eth0
wlan0 unassociated ESSID off/any Nickname:"ipw2100"
Mode:Managed Channel=0 Access Point: Not-Associated
[code]....
Notice it says that the 'Radio is disabled by switch' in dmesg. I can press that switch until the end of the world comes and it does absolutely nothing but make the WLAN light put on a light show. And it shows the wlan to be unassociated with any clients. So, what are my options to get this Wireless up and working?
Computer/OS info:
Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M7400

until yesterday night wireless was working fine on openSUSE 11.2 After a reboot, suddenly wireless is not even shown as a possible network medium. In the network manager, the tab with "wireless" is greyed out. After going through many forum posts, here is what all I have tried.Output from various commands:
Code:
dmesg | grep firmware
[ 7.379074] IBM TrackPoint firmware: 0x0e, buttons: 3/3
[code]....
I guess that driver is not getting loaded since modprobe is giving an error which I mentioned earlier. What could be reason? Did driver crashed? Since this issue cropped up only after I rebooted the machine.

I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

pulled the wireless USB adapter out of the back of my laptop when I was using it. I plugged it back in and it can see my wireless network, but it can't connect. Everytime it tries, it just shows the connecting icon on the top bar for a few minutes and then says that the network has been disconnected.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the USB adaptor, but nothing I've done seems able to fix the issue. Anyone know how to fix this?
The USB adaptor I'm using is a Trendnet TEW-424UB

Just recently the wireless stopped working on Ubuntu 10.04. The machine is AcerOne AOA-150. I did notice recently the wireless would stop working, and I would need to either 1) reboot 2) switch the wireless off by moving the switch from left to right in front of the laptop.
However, this time nothing is working. I've provided some detail and if more information is needed, let me know.

A couple days ago I booted up my Ubuntu 10.10 machine as usual, but the wired LAN connection did not work; it doesn't seem to see any wired connection devices. I can still connect to a wireless network with no problem, and if I plug that same ethernetable into another machine it works fine. I've been happily using this setup for weeks; the LAN only stopped working a day or two ago. So I figure there's two possibilities:A recent update caused NetworkManager to stop working with wired LAN connections, but I'm e only persothed affected (unlikely)My motherboard's ethernet port died (this motherboard only a couple weeks old, so this also seems unlikely)I'm not good at diagnosing problems with networking, so who can tell me where to st

This morning my 2 year old son was pressing buttons, generally playing with the notebook. When he was done the wireless stopped working. I cannot get it to come back on. What could he have possibly done without entering the password.
I have restarted several times. ifconfig does not show the wireless adapter. iwconfig says its not active. i turned on txpower using iwconfig but still nothing.
