How can I watch streaming XviD movies on Ubuntu? Whenever I go to a page with an XviD, all that happens is the little "Buffering" wheel in the corner starts spinning but never plays, and when I click on the "Download and install the XviD Codec" in the middle screen, an error message pops up saying "We're sorry, our content is not compatible with your computer configuration."
View 4 RepliesI like this linux distribution more than the others that i have used, because is more stable for my work. But there are some little problems that I can't solve. I'm using it with a laptop HP G60 and i can run OpenOffice, Mozilla and some other programs (python, grass, qgis) that used for work at the office, but when I go home and want to watch a movie with my girl, listen some music or any other simple task, i find a lot of little problems:
1. Adjust the bright of the screen, the Power Management Guidance don't do it and I really need it.
2. Can't play movies in VLC "No suitable decoder module. VLC does not support the audio or video format XVID. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this"
3. And today I can't play music because there is a message "KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed" this is: Output HDA Intel, INTEL HDMI 0 (HDMI Audio Output)
I know maybe these problems are stupid but in windows is easier to fix them. I'm tired of search in google because i just find solved problems for Ubuntu and it takes a lot of time.

First of all: I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal x64 on a Athlon 64 X2 2.1Ghz, with a NVidia GeForce 8600GT(quite old, i know). I Have 2 Monitors and generally use the 2nd to watch movies, music videos, things like that on Windows 7 and wanted to do that on Ubuntu too. But it won't let me drag anything on the 2nd monitor as it holds the cursor on the 1st monitor when dragging programs/windows/anything. Using Xinerama(on Xserver) give strange thing when 2nd monitor is totally black, can't see any menus and can only do anything by keyboard shortcut

Right now I have the net book set up so I can watch movies from my Ubuntu desk top (using XBMC) on my home network. What I would like to do is when I am on the road with my netbook, be able to watch my shows and movies on my PC at home. I am not sure if there is a VNC client that would work on both systems or not.

The intent is to use Mplayer without X or any other window manager/GUI to watch movies on TV. A simple 'mplayer movie.avi' command works fine, except that it locks out the keyboard and mouse. We're using the latest mplayer and slack 13.0 with the 2.6.29.6 kernel. Using mplayer under X presents no problems, but the use of anything but the console is NOT possible now. The whole problem is figuring out what to do to regain control of the keyboard.

All of a sudden I couldn't watch movies on Hulu anymore, so I have just upgraded Debian from the Etch to Lenny, because I wanted to update to the newest version of Adobe flash. In Iceweasel under add-ons, it says that I have the newest (10.0 r42) version. The old one (9.0 r124) is still listed. It is listed as disabled, white version 10 is listed as enabled. I still can't watch movies on Hulu.

This PC would be for Streaming Netflix, Hulu, internet movies, Playing DVD/BlueRay disk, Printer server, and file storage. The things i'm curious about is how well Ubuntu handles streaming movies? We will be ordering a projector for this PC, but i'm not sure i want a monitor. Trying to find a way i can remote over and play moviesthrough the projector and then close the connection without logging me out. or something along this line.

It's as if it goes into screensaver mode, but gdm/gnome is not installed. It is a minimal cd installation and it's used as a video server.In earlier releases of FF/Maverick, there is no problem. Not sure if it is the OS or FF. I am leaning toward FF since mplayer/FFmpeg do not have a problem with playing a movie from start to finish.Same problems with FF 4.0, just removed 4.0 and re-installed 3.6.16 and same problem.

I stream Audio through internet well but videos I can stream locally in my network only .. when I am connected to internet outside my network .. it doesn't stream I think their must be ports opened for that .. or any 1 have any ideas .. the audio is streamed on port 8000 .. video is streamed on port 7070 but locally only .. I opened those 2 ports in my router only the audio is working .. also I opened ports 554,7170 disabled the firewall of the router .. is it a problem of ports or something else .

When i tried to play it with vlc it played a small message that you need an xvid player that needs to be downloaded from a particular website... Then I tried to search for the missing plugins and i even found some and downloaded and installed but it did not work . the file which i downloaded was a 600 mb. then i switched to windows to play the file and it automatically opened the website and asked to purchase the xvid player.I even ttried to convert it to avi or mp4 format using avidemux but did not work.
