General :: Batch Converting Video From Avc1 To Xvid?

Aug 8, 2010

I need a way to batch convert 720p video files from avc1 to xvid in Ubuntu 10.04. I'm not terribly concerned about file size, but I do wish to retain the picture quality as much as possible. I believe the audio is encoded as aac, which is fine for my purposes.

What would be the best and easiest way to do this? I've tried using Handbrake. During my first attempt, I had it using ffmpeg to convert to MPEG-4, but that just gave me a super-low quality video at twice the file size. Trying h.264 now, so we'll see how that works out. But just in case it doesn't pan out so well, what other ways do you recommend?

I was thinking I'd write a bash script to reencode the files one by one, but the problem is that I have very little knowledge about codecs and containers and whatnot - so I wouldn't know what parameters I would pass ffmpeg/mencoder.

Programming :: Custom Progress Bar Of Video Conversion Script (FLV To XVID)

Aug 7, 2010

i have written a bash script to convert flv files (e.g. videos) to xvid to be played on my dvd player. the conversion is not really the issue, as it works. what i am dealing with now are 2 problems i have not found a good workarouond:
1. surpressing the shell output of mencoder completely ( i do not want to see all the mencoder messages). this i have only solved to a certain extend.
2. i want to create a progress bar. this one i have not yet cracked.

the script:
code:
#!/bin/bash
## settings
v_bitrate=768
video_opts="-ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=$v_bitrate:autoaspect"
audio_opts="-oac mp3lame -lameopts fast:preset=standard"
store_dir=./converted_files .....

#start the script
main_menu
1. mencoder output: using /dev/null works more or less. for example: if mencoder detects a double frame while converting, a message is still printed on the bash screen
2. progressbar: i have no clue yet on how to do this. any link or tip is welcome.
my goal is something like this:
[56%] [time in progress] [timeleft]

Slackware :: Can't Play Movies In VLC - Doesn't Support Audio Or Video Format XVID

Feb 23, 2011

I like this linux distribution more than the others that i have used, because is more stable for my work. But there are some little problems that I can't solve. I'm using it with a laptop HP G60 and i can run OpenOffice, Mozilla and some other programs (python, grass, qgis) that used for work at the office, but when I go home and want to watch a movie with my girl, listen some music or any other simple task, i find a lot of little problems:

1. Adjust the bright of the screen, the Power Management Guidance don't do it and I really need it.

2. Can't play movies in VLC "No suitable decoder module. VLC does not support the audio or video format XVID. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this"

3. And today I can't play music because there is a message "KDE detected that one or more internal sound devices were removed" this is: Output HDA Intel, INTEL HDMI 0 (HDMI Audio Output)

I know maybe these problems are stupid but in windows is easier to fix them. I'm tired of search in google because i just find solved problems for Ubuntu and it takes a lot of time.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound And Speed Up Multimedia Files In Natty 11.04?

May 9, 2011

so i don't know what happened, but all multimedia files are suddenly speed up/and-or with no sound (ubuntu 11.04 with all recent updates, firefox 4, adobe flash-instick etc.)

if i try to play a flash movie on for instance videos it's sped-up with no sound, if i play an mp3 song (i use exaile) the bar is sped up and there's no sound either, if i start an avi movie (vlc) it's not sped up but there's no sound though.

when i log in to the system the logging in jingle is not playing, so basically the sound just got turned off for some reason but according to the soundbar it should be on.

this problem started just recently. i don't know if it has to do with recent updates or that my log in re-started a couple of times after using a kde program (kmess).

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Find "hidden" Mp3 Files (incomplete Files Or Just Rubbish)

Jan 26, 2010

I've got a collection of MP3 files, but sometimes I stumble across a double file in Rhythmbox. At first, I thought they were the real files, but after trying to fix the tags (artist names were incorrect or missing) in tag editor, I didn't see any change in the files in Rhythmbox.

This made me search for the album in which the files were (in Rhythmbox). I found out that these incorrectly named files were doubles, but they didn't show in the actual folder.

So, I deduced, They had to be fakes. I threw the doubles in the trash bin, and there it was. They were hidden files (with a dot in front).

How can I find all these hidden files, so I can remove them?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: VLC Media Player Doesn't See Files As "media Files"

Jan 22, 2010

I have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.

What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Create MKV Files

Jan 12, 2010

I received a popcorn hour set top box for Xmas, and I am trying to figure out the best way to convert my extensive DVD collection to MKV files to play on the PCH.

I know I could just create an ISO of the DVD, but that would take up 4-8 gig per movie, where from what I've read, MKV offers GREAT audio and video quality at a fraction of the space.

Is there any software packages out there for linux that would allow me to rip my DVD's to MKV? if so, will they allow me to just rip the movie part of the disc, and not the extra's or menu?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Where Are The Files From ODVR?

Mar 12, 2010

I installed a program to let me use my OlympusVN-4100PC voice recorder in Ubuntu 9.10. From the terminal the recorder is found. then I ask it to download all the files on it, and the first time I used it it stated all files were donloaded -- but it doesn't say where. The files are supposed to be wav, so I searched my entire system for all wav files and found none of the ones I am looking for I then tried to specify a folder to download too and this is what I got

Code:
douglas@desktop:~$ odvr -d a
Model: 2100PC
"DA_0049.wav" already exists. Skipping this file.
"DA_0050.wav" already exists. Skipping this file.
I searched using DA* and found nothing!

I would really like to get these files onto my computer. Alternatively can anyone tell me of a good quality recorder that will work straight up in Ubuntu?
