Ubuntu :: Stop Annoying Beeping Sound When Any Key Is Pressed?
May 18, 2011
Im configuring my Ubuntu 11.04 installation but one of the thing that really annoys me is that beeping sound every time I press a key on the keyboard. I haveńt found a way to disable it through System Settings(Sound preferences) and pcspkr is already blacklisted in the blacklist file.

The solution given there -to edit settings via gconf-editor - worked fine.In Ubuntu. Now I wanna do the same thing in Lubuntu - the Ubuntu remix that uses LXDE instead of Gnome.I tried running gconf-editor but (duh) it's not installed because Lubuntu doesn;t use Gnome. How do I tell LXDE to quit asking for confirmation? I'd also like to have the option to just delete stuff right away, rather than it going into the trash file first.

When I record my voice, using the gnome-sound-recorder, I get an awful buzzing sound in the background. Altering the input volume or the output volume the recorder makes no difference: it makes the buzzing sound louder or quieter - but also makes my recorded voice louder or quieter. Can anyone offer me a solution that gets rid of the buzz whilst keeping the voice volume as it should be?

Mandriva-2009.1 tries to install a package called Task-Printing-Server every time I power up my PSC-1401 All-In-One (multifunction) printer. This is very annoying & I want to stop these pop-up messages. This printer uses the hplip package (PSC_1400.ppd for printing & hpaio for scanning) & everything works fine except for those annoying pop-up messages.

I suddenly find that I'm waiting forever before loading a particular page. And then I discovered that, whenever this happens, I have only to hit "stop" (or "Esc"), upon which it promptly abandons some unknown task and loads the page immediately.
(i) what it's doing and why, and/or (ii) how to eliminate this snag?

Sometimes (quite frequently) during the normal use of my laptop (64bit Ubuntu 9.10), if I do not play songs nor anything else, I get annoying sounds, like when guitarists cable their instruments while ampli are on.Apparently this happens particularly when I open new windows or new tabs in my browser, when I shut down my pc, etc...

How do I remove that annoying drum sound from the login screen.I went to PREFERENCES -> LOGIN SCREEN, but there are no tabs or boxes for sound. Only options to determine who I want to log in.I tried GCONF-EDITOR, and drilled down to /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/sound/active and unchecked the active box, rebooted, but it still plays that stupid sound. And the box is unchecked if I check it! I've tried the solutions in the forum and nothing seems to kill that annoying sound.I'm still on 9.10 right now, since 10.04 has a nasty screen flicker problem.

I am experiencing sound problems after an upgrade to kernel 2.6.29.6-213.fc11.i686.PAE from kernel 2.6.29.5-191.fc11.i686.PAE in several games like Neverwinter Nights (linux binaries) and Warcraft III (PlayOnLinux). The sound stops and changes into a very choppy annoying sound. When I boot into the old kernel the problems are gone.

Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0 When I run alsaconf, the first thing it does is to say Quote: If ALSA is already running, you should close all sound apps now and stop the sound driver. By apps I understand things like aplay, mpg321, etc. Am I right? So stopping them is no problem: symply do not run them. But how do I stop the sound driver?

When i play Music or Video i have no problems at all.
But.
Have World of Warcraft installed trough Wine and all is working perfect. The thing is that i hear a weird chirping sound when i log in the game (1 time) and then i hear a sort of ticking sound on the background and it stays there no matter if a disable music or not.
Have also tried all 3 settings in sound config (ingame) eg. System Default, Pulse Audio Software ((Null)) and ALSA Software on Default ((null)).
The weird ticking sound is staying.
Anyone knows a solution of have a hint where i must look to solve this ?

Whenever I play a flash object that has sound, there is this repetitive beeping noise audible over the audio track. I've tried this on different videos and different sites, always with the same result. Whenever I play a multimedia file in Iceweasel, for example [URL]... plodes.ogv , the sound is normal, as is the sound for any multimedia file that I play in MPlayer. So, I am convinced it is a flash issue. What I don't get is why this just started happening for no apparent reason.

i'm running 11.2 kde 4.3. i'm having issues with both smplayer and vlc. first, when i play an audio cd through smplayer, it pauses every 14-15 second. by pause i mean that the sound and time counter stops, and i actually hear the disc drive make a sound, the *typical disc-read sound. i tried a few discs, in case it was a specific cd; same thing for all. i also looked through the preferences to see if there was a setting that addressed it; nothing i see seems to address the issue.
playing the same cds in kscd works fine. but kscd really sucks....excuse me, it really really sucks. with vlc, whenever i start vlc, it will appear in my taskbar, but there is no other sign of its existence besides this. no system tray icon, no gui or any other sign of its presence besides the taskbar.

I am currently using a Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04
When I press the power button, I see a dialogue box which asks for confirmation and if nothing is confirmed system automatically shuts down in 60 seconds.
I want to change this time of 60 seconds to say 30 seconds. Is it possible? Also is there a way to hide that dialogue box...

I want to be able to hide things so that they do not show up when show hidden files is pressed. Maybe something like a file that you can only get to by already knowing its location?
