Mandriva-2009.1 tries to install a package called Task-Printing-Server every time I power up my PSC-1401 All-In-One (multifunction) printer. This is very annoying & I want to stop these pop-up messages.This printer uses the hplip package (PSC_1400.ppd for printing & hpaio for scanning) & everything works fine except for those annoying pop-up messages.
View 2 RepliesEvery now and then on my non-graphical console-orientated Debian Squeeze system, some services see it fit to spill their juices all over what I am doing.
A message about a service stopping/starting/restarting prints at the location of my cursor ontop of whatever I was doing at that moment, forcing me to either redraw ( if the currently running application supports it ), background and then foreground what I'm doing or clear the screen if at the shell.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe solution given there -to edit settings via gconf-editor - worked fine.In Ubuntu.Now I wanna do the same thing in Lubuntu - the Ubuntu remix that uses LXDE instead of Gnome.I tried running gconf-editor but (duh) it's not installed because Lubuntu doesn;t use Gnome. How do I tell LXDE to quit asking for confirmation? I'd also like to have the option to just delete stuff right away, rather than it going into the trash file first.

I haveńt found a way to disable it through System Settings(Sound preferences) and pcspkr is already blacklisted in the blacklist file.

When I print e-mail messages from within evolution the output comes out really ugly. Specifically the letter spacing (kerning) is very uneven with some letters squished together while others are spaced too far apart. This happens for printing to a file as well (PostScript or PDF). Attached is an example (converted to jpg). Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know if this is an issue with evolution itself or perhaps a backend used by it for output.

And currently the same logs are written to /var/log/firewall and /var/log/messages. I still want messages be written into the first one, but not the second one — it is redundant and it is polluting regular system logs.So how to stop the firewall from writting logs to /var/log/messages?

I was not able to find packaged binaries for RHEL 5 or 6 for ggv-2.12.0, so I downloaded the source and compiled it. Unfortunately, it fails to start, printing these error messages:

The individual window "buttons" themselves keep changing size - flashing even, and the space between them also changes. It is driving me nuts! You know, the usual, /var/log/messages, lastlog, etc. What I've been using is just a simplistic grep statement that looks for keywords in certain log files, such as warn, crit, etc., with the -i flag to ensure no case searches. I thought, well, surely there are others out there doing the same thing, but more automated. Perhaps something that can check files for keywords and then notify, via email, if anything out of the ordinary is seen.

Is there an application or plugin which periodically displays the contents of the tasklist or even better, it briefly displays the most urgent/important tasks when I login? Or anything else which automatically displays the most important tasks. Currently I have to open the task list and look at them (which I usually forget). The problem is that my ISP doesn't allow usage of port 25 (as I understand a lot of ISP's don't).I have PHP scripts hat use the mail() function to send e-mails through the Sendmail application.So, my question is: How can I relay messages sent to sendmail to an external SMTP server (like Google Mail, for example)? Would this be easier to do in the PHP configuration, or on the Sendmail side of things?I've used PEAR extensions in PHP to achieve this before, but scripts downloaded from the Internet generally just use the basic mail() function, and it would be a real pain to modify them all.
