Sometimes (quite frequently) during the normal use of my laptop (64bit Ubuntu 9.10), if I do not play songs nor anything else, I get annoying sounds, like when guitarists cable their instruments while ampli are on.Apparently this happens particularly when I open new windows or new tabs in my browser, when I shut down my pc, etc...

now my main problem is whenever i change my visual settings from none to extra , i start getting noise on my usb headphone or even on my speakers especially if i play a video on full screen mode it become worse .. it starts constantly makeing buzzing noise. sometimes even when i minimize or maximize or scroll up down a window...
if i put the visual effects in normal mode i still get the noise on video playing full-screen mood but this is time bit low and on none mode i get the noise too but very low... so i m assuming there must be some problem with my vga card which is causing this chaos. unfortunately there is no driver for my graphics card dat ati supports on ubuntu, so i used gallium 3d project using this ppa https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/radeon .. graphics works fine now but this nosie is killing me ..
I would like sound from mono sources to play in both speakers/earphones. How do I do this? Currently, it plays in only one side (which makes for an odd listening experience).I generally use banshee to play sound.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI decided to break free from the horrible life of a windows vista user. I like my new debian (Wheezy) installation and everything worked fine so far. Now I stumbled upon a huge problem. When I want startup and login into my gnome installation the first application I open gets to play sound and others after that just don't work. I looked endlessly on google but in my understanding the problem is within the ALSA driver.

OS version : Debian 7 (Wheezy)
Laptop brand : Packerd Bell Easynote LJ-65
Kernel installed : 2.6.38-2-686 (Standard one in wheezy)
I don't understand what is going on... If I listen music, the sounds quality is just perfect, but if I play quakelive, I start heard some annoying noises such as my headphone wire is damaged. how to remove it? Maybe something wrong with sound drivers? I use ubuntu 10.04 LTS version OS. Sound card is realtek (integrated to motherboard).

It seems that every music program that has the ability to manage your music collection wants to use MP3 tags to do so. I severely do not want that behavior. I would like to be able to automatically create a library based on pathnames.
Winamp cooperates with my directory structure, but Rhythmbox / Songbird / Exaile seem to be hard-coded to just read id3 tags and operate according to that.
When I record my voice, using the gnome-sound-recorder, I get an awful buzzing sound in the background. Altering the input volume or the output volume the recorder makes no difference: it makes the buzzing sound louder or quieter - but also makes my recorded voice louder or quieter.Can anyone offer me a solution that gets rid of the buzz whilst keeping the voice volume as it should be?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just started to play with ssh so I connected to my media-pc with ssh from my laptop. I was always able to start a music player and play the music on the media-pc. Since yesterday the sound is gone. When I do top on the mediapc, I see my player running.
When I open my player locally on the mediapc, I can hear the music.
I think the sound disappeared after a update, but maybe it disappeared because I opened a player locally (on the mediapc) I don't know.
The laptop and mediapc both use a fully updated 9.10

When playing the Java based Game "Runescape", I am able to get the game music, but absolutely no sound effects or scenery sound. I have checked that all are at maximum volume, my sound works for everything else I do in total - this includes skype, ..... and minecraft - but not for the sounds in runescape.
I can copy and paste into a terminal, but that is about it.
i am using music composing software like nted and denemo.the problem is that when i play the score, i dont hear anything.this is not the case for other programs like videos on firefox, or playing dvds or listening to mp3s.the problem is only with these music composition softwares.

Only options to determine who I want to log in.I tried GCONF-EDITOR, and drilled down to /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/sound/active and unchecked the active box, rebooted, but it still plays that stupid sound. And the box is unchecked if I check it! View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some seemingly interrelated issues with music CDs that I can't find threads about. Music CDs don't mount, they just spin for a bit then sit there. While a music CD is in the tray, sound juicer (Audio CD extractor) dies with a Segmentation fault. Rhythmbox dies too with this fault:

I have this one AVI file legally downloaded from Veoh, which, however, I cannot playback. If I try to play it back under Totem 2.26.5, (GStreamer 0.10.25), I can see the video, I get no obvious error messages, but I get no sound no matter what I set the volume to: other files I get sound. Under Properties, I see for the Audio codec: Dolby Digital (AC-3). I am running Fedora 11 with all the updates.

It reloads alsa, and I can listen to a song again for approx 50 seconds. It is not depended of rhythmbox, because the same problem occures for amarock and banshee. I already installed the package libesd-alsa0 and put esd on, but the problem still occures. What is happening? I wanted to add 1 thing. And that is that I ahve 2 sound devices installed, both supporting alsa. 1 onboard, 1 pci card.
The strange thing is that only from the pci card, I can hear sound out of the speakers (after replugging the jack in the back off course ). But if, after an alsa force-reload, only the onboard sound card is detected, it does play the whole song, but does not output any sound.
I recently bought a new notebook, an Asus N73JQ. This notebook has a special sound system called "Bang & Olufsen ICEpower". The first thing I did was to install Ubuntu 64-bit. After installing and rebooting I am certain that i heard the Ubuntu login sound but ten minutes later when i tried playing music with Spotify all sound was gone. The login sound now gone too. I have tried editing settings in System -> Preferences -> Sound, with no luck. The settings dialog lists two sound devices, "Internal Audio Analog Stereo" and "HDA NVidia Digital Stereo (HDMI)". Sound output device is set to the Internal Analog ** device. I have tried different profiles for this device but nothing seems to work. Does anyone here have the same notebook/sound system with a working sound configuration?

I just got my hands on an MSI E7235-295US and slapped Ubuntu 9.10 on it. So far everything's worked great, but I am beginning to get a bit concerned about my sound quality. The laptop itself has 5 speakers + subwoofer so I should be getting 5.1 sound, if I understand things correctly (the newegg link should provide more details) and when I play anything (music, flash, videos, games, etc...) the sound comes out 'muffled'. Almost as if it is in a concert hall, maybe. I initially wondered if the problem is related to the 5 speakers and if the sound is initially only setup for two. If that is the case, nothing I've done has seemed to made any real difference. I've tried changing the master/pci channels, but it only hides it a little, and doesn't solve the problem.
This seemed to be on the right track, but the laptop is still really new and not listed in the alsa file.

When ever I play any sound, It 'pops' at the beginning. These pops could be split seconds of no sound, actual popping sounds, or clicking. I'm thinking its Pulse Audio.

On top of this I have installed xorg and awesome window manager. The only problem I am having is with sound; I am unable to hear sound played through both browser-based Flash and locally stored files.
Is there something that I have to do before I can use sound? Edit: I have solved the original problem however I would like to know if I can remove pulseaudio as it seems that I am only using alsa.
I decided to take the plunge and I totally replaced windows XP Pro w/ Karmic. I'm working on getting theatre mode set up as well as syncing my iphone.
for this problem I've set up dual desktop mode(both with the guide I found for Nvidia, and with ATI Catalyst control center) through the guide, the computer would freeze randomly and with CCC it seems to freeze when I start a video on the TV display.
I'm running a P4 3.2Ghz, 4G DDR2, ATI 256mb card w/ HDMI out
UPDATE: By changing the screen effects to none the computer doesn't freeze anymore
