Debian Hardware :: Installed Wheezy - Audio Players Stop With Error Message About No Sound

Aug 22, 2014

Installed Wheezy. Audio players either stop with an error message about no sound, or they quietly play silence. Tried with gui and comand-line versions.

Mucking about with lspci indicates that I have two sound cards. News to me. I try "lspci | grep -i audio" and get
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Haswell HD Audio Controller (rev 06)
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Lynx Point High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)

Debian Multimedia :: No Audio - Error Message - No Volume Control GStreamer Plugins And/or Devices Found

Sep 2, 2010

I'm brand new to debian and quite new to unix based systems in general.

I just switched to debian from ubuntu in search of something different and I want to find a system that works for me before I settle down.

I DO NOT HAVE A SECONDARY OS

just two problems I have with debian:

No sound

Error message: No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found.

When I try to open sound from the speaker icon at top right.

I think it's a driver issue but Its not as easy as ubuntu was lspci:

My trackpad also does not work so I have to open documents manually if I don't bring my mouse to class.

Debian Hardware :: ATI Radeon HD 3200 HDMI Audio On Wheezy

May 6, 2014

I recently switched over one of my Ubuntu machines to Debian Wheezy. On the Ubuntu system I was able to get the HDMI audio working by adding radeon.audio=1 to grub. I've tried this on this system to no avail. The fglrx-legacy-driver causes underscan and I'd like to avoid it if possible for convenience.

Things I've tried:

fglrx-legacy-driver - Introduced underscan while not solving the problemradeon.audio=1 in grub boot line - No effectGoogling for several hours - There's a lot of topics about this, but most are old and irrelevant, and the ones that are current enough didn't solve my issue.Yelling at it - HDD light blinked a few times, no change
lspci shows

Debian Hardware :: Wheezy Not Setting Up Audio On Zacate MSI E350IS-E45

May 14, 2011

Yesterday I downloaded and installed Wheezy 64 from the most recent debian-testing-amd64-netinst.iso (as of yesterday) on my new Zacate-based MSI E350IS-E45 (MS-7698) AMD E-350 ITX motherboard. I figured I needed something recent to support a very new chipset, I don't think Squeeze was even stable when this chipset came out.

Everything seemed to go smoothly, I was asked for the firmware tarball, but I guess I hit the wrong button and the installing just continued. Everything set up OK, it seemed, but I didn't have speakers or headphones on the system. I didn't appear to need the firmware-linux package, the networking was working, radeon was providing proper screen resolution, if kind of crummy performance (Desktop Effects wouldn't work in KDE, for instance, and 1080p won't play, though it does better than in Ubuntu).

But as I was configuring some program it complained about no sound output, I didn't make much of a note of it, I figured it was just some muted mixer, or such, I haven't had many problems with Linux audio before (except getting spdif to work, but I didn't need that here). But I started noodling around and sound was just not working.

aplay -l
aplay: device_list:235: no soundcards found...
lshw -C sound

So I installed the the firmware-linux & firmware-realtek packages, no effect (actually, not quite true, my ethernet speed seemed to increase). Then I tried the Liquorix 2.6.38-6.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 kernel, no joy. Attempting to "insmod" various snd modules just gives me "No such file or directory"

At this point I don't know what to do. I guess I could try "upgrading" to sid and hope for the best. Or I could uninstall all of pulseaudio, which I know has been very problematic for a lot of people. I could even try to purge and reinstall a bunch of alsa packages:

[Code]....

I suppose I could try to go to the alsa web site and download & install its driver, lib & utils. I'm really hoping it won't come to that, sound should really work out of the box. Or I could just wait and hope a future upgrade sorts out the sound.

Debian Hardware :: No Sound After Upgrade (Wheezy)

Jan 17, 2014

Sound is not working perfectly since installation. I fixed it by command: 'alsactl init' every time sound doesn't come out. However, since last week, sound was not working. I suspect it was caused by the 'apt-get upgrade' I did.

Code: Select allroot@debian:~# alsactl init
alsactl: init:1743: No soundcards found...
lspci (only audio)
Code: Select allroot@debian:~# lspci -v
00:02.7 Multimedia audio controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] SiS7012 AC'97 Sound Controller (rev a0)
Subsystem: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. Device b002

[Code] ....

It seems I am missing a module/ kernel driver for the sound card

Note: I have testing in sources list but have stable with higher priority. So I should still be in Wheezy

Debian Hardware :: Wheezy Stable 7.5 - Crackling Microphone Sound

May 21, 2014

My microphone in skype is crackling on Debian Wheezy stable 7.5 ... It is OK on Windows so it is obviously not the hardware to blame.

I have tried already all the options I could find regarding this on the internet, by changing in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf:

Code: Select all resample-method = speex-float-10
OR
Code: Select all resample-method = speex-float-1

My output was also crackling but I solved it by changing:

in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf:
Code: Select all default-sample-rate = 48000
 flat-volumes = no
in /etc/pulse/default.pa:

Code: Select allload-module module-udev-detect tsched=0

I also tried starting skype with

Code: Select all PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 skype

Without any success. Now the output is perfect, but the microphone in skype (haven't tested it elsewhere) is crackling.

Debian Multimedia :: Upgraded To Jessie From Wheezy - Sound Plays On Everything But Browsers

Dec 25, 2014

I just installed wheezy and upgraded to jessie. I had previously gotten sound working in wheezy by installing the flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound packages, after configuring my headset in system settings. However, now I can't get sound to play in firefox. I've installed flashplugin-nonfree, flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound, and pulseaudio, still without luck. The volume is turned all the way up in alsamixer, sound tests play fine, and I can play music in VLC without any problems. This leads me to believe it's not a problem with drivers, but with some package I'm missing that will allow firefox to play sound. Sound wasn't working in the default video player either, before I installed the flash plugin. Is there something I'm missing?

Also, sound doesn't play on Konqueror either (KDE browser), which seems to indicate it's a problem with flash and not with firefox itself. After removing the flash plugin and installing pepperflashplugin-nonfree to ensure the pepper plugin was used instead of flash, sound still would not play in chromium, so I reinstalled the flash plugin and still don't have sound in any browser.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 - KDE Not Installed Correctly (Error Message)

May 24, 2011

I've been creating a website of late, and I've decided that I've come far enough along to get actual web development software (though gedit has served well). In Gnome, I have Bluefish, which is alright, but I also wanted something for KDE, since I also have Kubuntu 10.04 installed. I did some reading, and decided to see what all the fuss about Quanta Plus was about. I download the tar file, extract it, but when I run ./configure, it goes through a couple of steps and everything seems to be checking out okay.

Then I get an error message that says I am missing kde-config, and that I should check my KDE installation. I didn't do anything abnormal during the Kubuntu installation, so I can't imagine what I could do to check that installation. So then I go tot the INSTALL file, and try the alternative installation ./configure method, and I get an error message that says the the C compiler can't output an executable.

Debian Hardware :: Serial Port I/O Error On Intel NUC With Wheezy

Mar 23, 2015

I have a problem getting Serial Port working on INTEL NUC DE3815TYBE. I have Debian Wheezy installed with kernel 3.16.0-0.bpo.4-amd64.

When I do :

Code: Select allsetserial -g /dev/ttyS*

I get:

Code: Select all/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS1, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x0000, IRQ: 19
/dev/ttyS2, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x0000, IRQ: 19
/dev/ttyS3, UART: unknown, Port: 0x02e8, IRQ: 3

I can connect to ttyS0 - ttyS2 without any problem but ttyS3 is not working and I am getting this error:

I call command:

Code: Select allstty -F /dev/ttyS3 9600 cs8 cread clocal

I get:

Code: Select allstty: /dev/ttyS3: Input/output error

I am running the commands as ROOT. I also tried: setserial /dev/ttyS3 irq 3 uart 16550A skip_test but I am getting the same stty: /dev/ttyS3: Input/output error

Output of:

Code: Select alldmesg | grep tty

Code: Select all[    0.000000] console [tty0] enabled

[Code] .....

lsof /dev/ttyS3 doesn't return anything so it means there is nothing connected to ttyS3 I guess but I am not very skilled with linux so I might be mistaken

Why I can see 4 ttyS* in my Linux but physically I have only 2 physical Serial Ports on the board?

There was a link the the Vuze wiki, and the problem is that I (or is it the Azureus updater?) do not have permissions to write to that directory, or words to that effect.

How do I apply the proper permissions so that when an update from Azureus is downloaded, it is applied?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Audio Mp3 Players Doesn't Show Errors At All Just Skips The Songs?

Jun 10, 2010

I have very strange problems with all the good audio mp3 players in Ubuntu. Not the bad programs only the good (whcich have good skins and library and so on). Amarok for some reason skips all the music files but only mp3 if I put m3u online radio it works. It doesn't show errors at all just skips the songs. I've never had issues with mp3 files before. The movie player works liek a charm but is too cheap (no library to browse files). Banshee was great and suddenly it stopped working just like the good old Rhythmbox... They appear to be starting in background but don't show nowhere. I cannot install XMMS players too it isn't found on the apt-get server. Also my packages are fully updated.

Reinstalling the programs don't help at all! It must be some major issue with the programs not launching. It's not a single program Banshee, Rhythmbox and I think some other but don't remember the names. Movie player plays all but is too simple. I want something like Winamp with nice library please help. No need for movies just mp3. Exaile works not fine with mp3 but I preffer how Rhytmhbox shows the music library with all the songs not like in seperate folders. I could try song shuffle. But why the other programs don't start what command can show what's happening?

I've dedicated most of today attempting to get some sound out of my Debian Lenny installation and I'm getting nowhere. I've tried a varity of potential solutions and still no peep from the machine. I'm using ALSA (and ran the 'alsaconf' utility with no errors and then used 'alsamixer' confirming that the volumne is set and not muted) for sound playback but nothing works?!? Here's some of the output that may resonate to some people...

Quote:

I've tried everything that I could find online and installed a variety of alsa related stuff, but at this stage my lack of experience (coming from a Windows background) is really beginning show. The only unexplored thing is that the device is not listed in the xorg.conf file, but there doesn't seem to be many mentions of this online and a possible red herring. The only other thing is that when running the 'alsaconf' utility it does show two cards installed on the system, these are: via82xx and legacy. I've always selected 'via82xx' as the other options prompts 'Probing legacy ISA cards might make your system unstable.' I'm plugging the speakers into the 'green' audio out socket.

Finally, when running videos on mplayer it does report that it is using alsa as the audio output option and it doesn't highlight are errors...Oh yeah - the speakers have been tested and do work.
