I suddenly find that I'm waiting forever before loading a particular page. And then I discovered that, whenever this happens, I have only to hit "stop" (or "Esc"), upon which it promptly abandons some unknown task and loads the page immediately.
(i) what it's doing and why, and/or (ii) how to eliminate this snag?
I�m configuring my Ubuntu 11.04 installation but one of the thing that really annoys me is that beeping sound every time I press a key on the keyboard. I haveńt found a way to disable it through System Settings(Sound preferences) and pcspkr is already blacklisted in the blacklist file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have another opera browser problem,i upgraded to version 10.53 build 6330 last week. it keeps crashing the cpu goes to 100% and wont come down, i had this problem with the previous version but its a lot worse with the new version.
also noticed that when browsing ebay the scroll is very jerky until you get about a third of the way down the page then it scrolls ok again.
i get the feeling the crashes are something to do with the flash player.
i tried to uninstall flash but i cannot get it to uninstall .
Our mail server keeps on hanging after a while. This happened after there was a breakdown in electricity supply and the server room air conditioners stopped working for almost half a day. We are not sure whether this is a server hardware problem or a coincidence with a break-in attempt or malware activity.

Is there a terminal program that shows what you pressed on the keyboard?There are these two keys to the right and left of the up arrow key that are "PageBack" and "PageForward" for Firefox, but Midori can't use these keys like that, in fact, I don't think it even knows they exist. View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I boot, apparently any Linux (Ubuntu and CloneZilla), I see the letters Code: ^]]B scroll pass, over and over again. This represents the down key as when I try to do anything the down key is held down. This occurs during boot on Ubuntu (once I get to the login screen it stops and does not happen). This does not happen at the GRUB screen or in Windows. It also occurs during the entire CloneZilla process and Ubuntu alternative install process (making both of these impossible)
I can't find any reason for this to happen and have been using both CloneZilla and Ubuntu for a long time before this happened. Does anyone know what I could try to fix this.
Ubuntu no longer boots.
I want to prevent "^C" from echoing when Ctrl-C is pressed. I did "stty -echoctl" which some googling results suggested. Now it echos raw Ctrl-C characters instead of the string "^C". That's not any better since it displays some funny blocked hexadecimal in the terminal window.

Now it won't do anything except run the power supply and cpu fans while the start button is pressed. I checked for power on the blue , purple ,red and orange wires while 14 and 15 were jumped on the power supply. There are no lEDs on the board and no beeps. I disconnected all the peripherals also

I'm having a problem with vim and xterm. When I open a file and press any key, the colour scheme changes slightly. This doesn't happen if I run a 256-colour xterm (export TERM='xterm-256color') but if TERM is set to 'xterm' (the default) I see the colour change. Setting TERM='xterm-256color' in my ~/.bashrc is a "solution", but I'd rather not have to do that since it's never been necessary in the past (e.g., on 13.1) and I don't use any 256-color schemes for vim (usually just the default or possibly "delek"). It doesn't happen with rxvt or with Xfce's terminal. I've tried compiling some other versions of xterm but they either exhibit the same behaviour or don't build. I have tried running without any ~/.vimrc file just to be sure it wasn't one of my settings and I've also tried the sample file at /usr/share/vim/vimrc; the effect is the same.

When I press the power button, I see a dialogue box which asks for confirmation and if nothing is confirmed system automatically shuts down in 60 seconds.
I want to change this time of 60 seconds to say 30 seconds. Is it possible? Also is there a way to hide that dialogue box...
I want to be able to hide things so that they do not show up when show hidden files is pressed. Maybe something like a file that you can only get to by already knowing its location?

I have a Microsoft Wireless Desktop 3000 (Wireless Keyboard 3000 + Wireless Mouse 5000), actually, I have two of them, one in this computer, running Ubuntu 10.10 and another one in a box running Ubuntu 10.04.In the box running 10.04 I can perfectly use 70% of the hotkeys the keyboard has, the 30% left I guess they're not compatible, but that's not a problem.In the one running 10.10 whenever I use a hotkey,t works, but,sametimet "blocks" the mouse left button in the 'pressed' state. Let me be more clear, it's like I'm holding down the left click all the time and I don't ever release it. Unless I restart the system, I can't recover the left click.

whats the difference between restarting/stopping apache using 'service httpd restart/stop' and apachectl restart/stop. I know that using 'service httpd restart' is actually a script in /etc/init.d/httpd but what about apachectl?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my Opensuse dom0 from 11.2 to 11.3, and so Xen from 3.x to 4.01.Ever since, Windows HVM domus hang after a random amount of time. Always within 24 hours of starting though.The VMs are XP and W7, and have tried both hvm drivers and gplpv drivers. There are no errors in xend.log, or the qemu-dm logs or xm dmesg. I have tried apic and acpi both on and off.
If I VNC to them, I can see that they have simply stopped.If I force them off and start them again, there is nothing in the event log of the VM, it just stops and becomes unresponsive, with no associated log entry.I have re-installed one of the VMs from scratch, with a slightly different version of W7. No difference. The stalling even happens during installation, so it doesn't seem like any software I have installed or configuration could be related.
I'm trying to boot to install ubuntu 10.04 via a USB, and it keeps hanging on:

and it sits there for a long time, and nothing happens..
This is an HP Pavilion dv5000 laptop with a 120 gb IDE hard drive, 2gb of ram, if you need any more info lmk, but I can't boot into windows.
Using the latest version of Ubuntu. Trying to ftp to an ftp server. Able to successfully login through terminal but when I try and list the contents of a folder I get "200 PORT command successful" and then it just hangs. I thought it might be the server but I've tried it on different Mac and Windows machines and was successful. I can only assume there's something in Ubuntu which is blocking it.

View 4 Replies View Relatedtwo months ago i bought a fujitsu siemens pc (pentium 4)and installed ubuntu 8.04. initially the computer was very slow and you couldnt run many applications at once, in the end it just becomes very slow and even hangs. it could take years to open open office word processor, so i thought it had a problem with the RAM. it initially had a RAM of 256MB, so i bought another 256MB and made it 512. it started to work very fast and it could open word so fast, i could run many applications at once until recently when it began to hang again even when there is only one application running, but it still is very fast, though it hangs often, is there a solution for this problem? i am oftenly forced to restart the machine and its boring.

Using slack 13 this started happening after my last 'upgrade-all' with slackpkg where I think it updated ssl and sea monkey. When I shutdown (fluxbox) it hangs at "starting up x11 manager" I have to ctrl alt del to get it moving again.

i had successfully installed ubuntu on this machine before but then i replaced it with 11.4 open suse.now i am trying to replace the open suse with ubuntu because the open suse did not work well.
