Ubuntu jaunty 9.04 and i installed it to my toshiba l450-02n and i updated the updates. one thing is the wireless does not work.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAll my other systems work fine, tried setting mtu to 1492. Everything is set manually in network connections. Tried deleting and making a new connection. I set the dns servers in the /etc/resolve (don't remember the exact path.) I can ping servers fine. This was a fresh install of 9.10. Again, the internet worked fine until I installed the updates from the update manager.I had internet problems when I first started using ubuntu a couple years ago.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Jaunty 9.04 and I was sitting online yesterday and the update manager came up. I let it do its thing as usual, but it seemed to have an issue with some firefox related package (having to do with branding?) and then the little flipping-out icon showed up in my tray saying that a package broke. It did not, and the firefox launcher turned into a missing puzzle brick and clicking it causes a small window to come up with the following message:

So I might have tried to uninstall firefox from synaptic or something, but this just created more errors and I don't think it worked properly anyway. Inside Synaptic, there is one listed as a "broken" package in the broken filter. It is something to do with Firefox Branding AMD64 and all that goodness.
I am using a Toshiba Satelllite L670 laptop and I can not get the built in wireless card to work....using F14.

Didn't have to use anything like ndiswrapper on ubuntu, so thinking its an easy todo here - just need a little prod or two in right direction. To give one example. I go to a web I use frequently and the following message is displayed at the top: "Additional plug-ins are required to display media on this page"
I click on "install mising plug-ins" and select Flash Player-installer. Bu then it tells me it's already installed! This has only happened since last night when I installed the updates!
I installed a clean installation of ubuntu 10.04 inside Windows 7 and wireless worked normally in the beginning that I downloaded and installed all the updates "I selected without updating Grub".On the first reboot after updates, the wireless icon disappeared from the panel and could not connect to the internet although the settings in the Networking tools were correct.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI got Ubuntu 10.10 installed. Unfortunately, my wireless doesnt work. I'm connected to my router, but web pages wont load.
I thought to myself, maybe Ubuntu needs to update. So I lugged my computer out to the router itself and okugged my computer in. I went into update manager and let it do its thing. It was PAINFULLY slow. I had a less than 100 b/s. But I let it do its thing. After all 200 Mb's were done, which took a couple hours, I rebooted my system. Now, I cant even connect to my wireless and the internet symbol (the wireless bars thing in the top right) is gone.
1) How can I get my wireless to work?
2) How do I get the wireless button back?
I just installed a series of Ubuntu 9.10 updates, and after rebooting the machine, I can no longer connect via ethernet / lan to the internet. The connection manager just shows the spinning graphic showing the adapter is attempting to connect to the internet. I don't know which update caused it, and I'm not very good with linux. I was using network manager, and I believe that package was uploaded! Help, what should I do now? My Ubunutu is completely useless without a connection to the internet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Toshiba NB100 originally came pre-installed with 8.04 LTS and even has a 'Ubuntu Certified' case sticker, so I expected that jumping to the next LTS should be easy... It was. Simply burnt the image to a thumb drive, booted into the live mode, saw that everything worked and installed it. Everything that worked in 8.04 works here. Not a single problem!
Of course, you have to do a clean install though because the 8.04 supplied by Toshiba is disabled to only allow updates for 8.04 but not to upgrade. I did not need to install any 'Payson' packages and the once proprietary wireless driver is now not, so I have a totally non-proprietary system.
As well as looking nicer and booting faster there are other pluses. I can now upgrade in future without a clean install (if I want) and hopefully no longer have to put up with updates breaking the system - for example sound disappeared on two 8.04 updates (a finding found by many NB100-11R users) and the last update which pushed me to try 10.04 ASAP also made my webcam undetectable and the keyboard mapping all wrong. No such problems here now and I don't expect it.
So, if you have Toshiba-NB100-11R, there is absolutely nothing to lose. Backup your valued files and go for it. Totally painless. Of course you'll need add all the restricted stuff back yourself, but that's not hard. EDIT: Only one thing doesn't work (that doesn't bother me): the function key to toggle wireless on and off. It always remains on.
I used to dual boot Windows XP and Ubuntu for quite some time now. Yesterday after seeing OpenSUSE installed on my friends lappy, I decided it IS the time to bid goodbye to Windows. I don't play games, just internet browsing, listening to music, some letter writing and movies of course!
So today I removed Windows XP by formatting C: drive and installed OpenSUSE.
I am happy with OpenSUSE, but I still want to dual boot OpenSUSE with Ubuntu. But in the GRUB,only OpenSUSE entry is shown, Ubuntu is nowhere. It seems OpenSUSE has overwritten the Ubuntu GRUB during install and doesn't include Ubuntu in the boot list as Ubuntu does for other OS when we install Ubuntu.
How to create an entry in the GRUB so that I am able to boot into Ubuntu also.
I'm not computer savvy at all - a friend just installed Ubuntu onto my laptop and I can't get the WIRELESS to work. I'm not sure what info you need so let me know...

I don't know what xulrunner is for and I'm hesitant to just do a yum remove of the f14 one as I've learned that I can cripple or kill my system if I do this to the wrong programs.

I bought a netbook and couldn't handle windows xp at all, so installed ubuntu 9.10, but the wireless network icon doesn't appear on the top of the screen like it should, presumably because ubuntu doesn't automatically recognize whatever card is in there. This is an asus 1001-HA. could anyone assist me with getting this thing up and running on a wireless network?

No heavy CPU usage when restoring from minimized and a general performance boost were the results of that use.But recently made an upgrade and realized that xserver-xorg-core package (check it from synaptic manager) has been upgraded to a jaunty-proposed version and the problems started to appear again!So using Synaptic I selected this package and hit CTRL-E key in order to choose the nobackfill version. This way things got back to normal!

My original mouse is old and has no scroll wheel, so I purchased a new Logitech Optical Mouse with USB. I purchased a PS/2-to-USB converter so that I could plug it in to the PS/2 port. After booting up, the mouse does not work at all. While the computer is on, I can unplug the new mouse and plug in the old one, and the old one will work. But the old one is close to failing, and I need to get a new mouse to work.The configuration file /etc/X11/xorg.conf did not have a mouse configured, so I tried adding the following code to it:

However, it works 100% when running from the live cd.
Can i install/copy the driver from livecd to hard drive, or is there another soultion for this?
Wireless worked fine on live cd, but for some reason not after install. I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. Here is my wireless output information.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded fro Jaunty to Karmic and then to Lucid and my TV card has stopped working. I had been informed that this was a result of the splitting of the linux-firmware into two separate packages, but having installed the linux-firmware-nonfree package the problem persists. The card is a Hauppauge WinTV PCI and although it is properly recognised by commands like lsmod, lspci and in the sound card settings, I can't tune in a single channel. It worked out of the box in Jaunty. Is there anything else that needs to be done to get the nonfree firmware working properly?

I used all the OEM software originally, but ended up following this step-by-step guide to run all pulse audio. After installing that I noticed that the sound keys on my laptop still showed that they changed the volume, but didn't have any effect in PulseAudio Volume Control... fixed that by changing the keyboard layout. While that bugged me the sound still came out of my speakers and headphone jack, but just recently the speakers randomly stopped working. View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just updated from 9.10 to 10.04. Everything seems to run fine except for zend optimizer which is throwing "Zend Optimizer not installed" error. I went to php.ini and the following line is still there

I did a clean install of 11.04 this morning. Upon logging in, Update Manager appeared, telling me there were 67 packages to upgrade. I obliged, and the update progress window appeared, as usual. At this point I realized it was not a convenient time to install the updates. No progress had yet been made; Update Manager had not downloaded anything, the progress bar had not moved, and the status was "waiting". I canceled the update and closed Update manager. However, upon running it again, it thinks that it successfully installed all the packages. In the "Ubuntu Software Center" Update history, it shows all those packages as having been updated with a timestamp of when I canceled the update. Apt-get and aptitude will not update the packages either. It seems like the packages have been marked as updated even though no update was installed. How can I rectify this problem and get the package managers to actually install the updates?

I am really enjoying recently slackware. Using slackpkg and sbopkg it is so easy to keep slackware running current. Sometimes I feel like a master of Linux, which is absolutely no true. Apart of some objectives I have regarding slackware's philosophy, I have this question please. I have about 8 packages installed via sbopkg. my question.
1)Is there a way to keep these packages updated via a program? (If not I guess I am obliged to check manually for each of them.) 2) Also, sometimes when we build a package via sbopkg it is necessary to build other packages. Is there an option to install via sbopkg and the package and its dependencies required through just one command?
