I'm in a hurry to get the wireless to work on my Toshiba A205. Link to system data: [URL]. Didn't have to use anything like ndiswrapper on ubuntu, so thinking its an easy todo here - just need a little prod or two in right direction. In the meantime I'll take a look at the data myself and see if I ain't smarter than I think.
View 8 RepliesI am playing with SalixOS which is supposed to be entirely compatible with Slack. I've never put Slack proper on this laptop. It's run Ubuntu and Mandriva both and the volume wheel always works. It does not seem to be recognized in Salix. I figure the fix will be the same in Salix as Slackware so I'm asking here. The laptop is an A205 Toshiba Satellite.

I think maybe the driver is not loading, but I am a pretty much still a noob, so my opinion isn't worth much. If it is the driver not loading, I don't know what to do to fix it. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just installed CentOS 5, and am new to Linux. So I don't know much about the terminal commands or much of anything else for that matter.
I'm able to get online when I plug an ethernet cable directly to the computer, but cannot get it to recognize my wireless(which I do have the drivers for, and did work previously on Windows).
The card is a Linksys WMP54GS.
I downloaded ndiswrapper-1.54 but still cannot figure out how to get this to run. As I said, I'm new, so I'm not sure what information other than that to provide, and how to access it, so you may have to guide me through that.

I recently upgraded it from 8.04 to 9.04. Ive tried using the Windows Wireless Driver option in System - Admin but to no avail.

getting the wireless chipset (Realtek 8176) to work, but finally got the WLAN to show up. Now, it seems as though it will recognize my WLAN and SSID, ask for my WPA password, but never connect. I connect fine over wired ethernet. It will not connect wirelessly to an unsecured network either. I previously had Jolicloud installed on my netbook, and my wireless worked out of the box with no setup, but I really didn't like the lack of application support with Jolicloud. I ended up in dependency hell just trying to update Banshee for use with my iPod.

I recently bought a Toshiba Portege R835 and wanted to install Ubuntu on it. I wasn't too surprised that the wireless wasn't working, but what does bother me is that Ubuntu doesn't even recognize that I have a wireless card. I haven't installed Ubuntu you (10.04) because of this, however I am able to get online through a wired connection.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am a linux newbie trying to get the wifi setup on my Toshiba Portege R835. It is running an Intel WiMAX/Wifi Link 6050 Series (rev 5f) wifi card, and I am running ubuntu 10.04. From the ui under wireless networks it says "device not ready"
I tried running ifconfig and it only shows lo, but if I do ifconfig -a it shows me a wireless card listed under wlan0. I tried running sudo ifconfig wlan0 up But it gave me an error: SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory I also looked in lib/firmware and do in fact have iwlwifi-6050-5.ucode listed in there. Unfortunately, I am really not sure how to attack the problem from here.
I should also mention that the wired connections also do not work, so anything I need to download has to be downloaded from a windows boot and burned to a CD to transfer (making the problem much more difficult to solve!)
The cooling fan on my Toshiba Satellite m500 doesn't work after installation of ubuntu 9.10. I've looked on the internet but i can't seem to find anything.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the install disk on a pendrive and all that (Its the netbook remix 10.04) but when I try to run the "Demo and full installation" I reboot and it just goes back to windows xp. I tried to install the cd helper thing, but it just makes an error and fails. I can't seem to get into the bios because whenever I reboot, the screen is black until windows is loaded and everything. Any help would be appreciated. My netbook is a NB200 by Toshiba.

I got myself a shiny M305 Logitech mouse for my laptop. It comes with a littlee USB wireless dongle. When I plug in the dongle, DMESG shows me that the system notices the dongle:

I am a linux newbie, I spent more than 3 days trying to set up the drivers for my Intersil Prism 2 Wi-Fi adapter on CentOS 5.5. While trying to Make the driver source I receive errors of missing libraries. Is the hostap driver included in the Centos Kernel? I tried with insmod hostap but it didn't work..? Is there a kernel patch with the hostap drivers? I will be glad if someone can give me ideas or directions for setting up the driver properly.
