originally my sounds worked completely, but now I only have sound out of the headphone jack. I used all the OEM software originally, but ended up following this step-by-step guide to run all pulse audio. After installing that I noticed that the sound keys on my laptop still showed that they changed the volume, but didn't have any effect in PulseAudio Volume Control... fixed that by changing the keyboard layout. While that bugged me the sound still came out of my speakers and headphone jack, but just recently the speakers randomly stopped working. Has anyone else experienced this?Computer:Lenovo 3000 N100 0768-4JUWindows 7, and Ubuntu 9.04*Edit- I tried to make it in one post, but it would not allow me yet saying I tried to post a link.

General :: Cannot Get Volume Buttons On Keyboard To Work

I just installed Linux Mint XFCE (newly-released Debian Based OS)My Problem is that I cannot get the volume buttons on my keyboard to work. I've done some research and it appears I need to install the "xfce4-volumed" package and I have done so. Still the buttons do not work. I've also tried installing xfce4 and also gstreamer.Nothing has worked.

I have bought a laptop 2 months ago with pre installed windows7 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit but still didnt get sound from the speakers. With headphones everything is OK . I have unmuted everything and searched forums but nothing so far. In windows I get speaker sound so it is not hardware problem. In alsamixer it appears I have 2 soundcards, one HDA -intel (chip Realtek ALC272) and a second one HDA nvidia ( a virtual one propably from my nvidia VGA ) that lacks controls . With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Tried to disable the first one from bios but it didnt help I also tried sound adjustment in preferences -> sound and gnome-alsamixer, nothing From gnome alsamixer, when I mute speakers, the headphones also get mute so may be the system doesnt recognize speakers and headphones separately ? May be it has to do with config files but my linux knowledge is low

I don't get any sound from my left speaker. With my headphones plugged in though I get sound in both speakers. I've upgraded my Kernel to .36. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. I'm on an MSI A7200 which is a great laptop but apparently a very rare one. There's like no info on it at all on the internet.

Hardware :: 4.1 Surround Sound Speaker System Didn't Work

I'm running slack64 13.1, I don't have KDE installed or any of the KDE libraries (so answers concerning KMix aren't going to help), I'm using xfce4 as the desktop environment. Anyway I just bought a new 4.1 surround sound speaker system from Amadeus and wanted to give it a shot. Obviously my first instinct was to plug them in and give it a whack... much to no one's surprise this didn't work. So I googled my ass off, and it seems for every person that has had a surround sound system, there's a different solution for them. I tried a couple tutorials to end at the same disappointing conclusion: the front two speakers and the subwoofer work. So here's the current situation:

The front two speakers are plugged into the speaker-out port (the green one) and the rear-two speakers are plugged into the line-out port (the light blue one). Since the subwoofer works I'm going to assume it uses the the same line that the front two speakers do. I've turned all the lines all the way up in alsamixer, and made sure it's playing on 4 channel. I reran alsaconf just to make sure and it configured snd-intel8x0 for me with no complaints. I also added a .asoundrc file that looks like this:

Then I ran "speaker-test -c 4 -D surround41 -t wav". Again only the front two speakers play any sound. I'm kinda new to configuring sound, as I've never before had a problem.

I upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 and now my sound control buttons on the key board don't work

I have dell inspiron 600m with xubuntu 10.10 with the latest updates.

I do have sound when I click on the sound indicter on the top right it brings me to the mixer where I could adjust the sound by clicking and dragging the slider up or down.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop with a fresh install of Lenny and KDE 3.5.10.On the computer there are these 7 Keys. I only care about the 3 related to sound. Now everything works perfect in Gnome, but when I switch to KDE, the 3 audio buttons don't work. I can't seem to figure out why and get them working. Does anyone have a solution for this? Again, they work in GNOME but not KDE.

I'm running squeeze (last updated today), and everything has been working great. There is only thing that would simplify my life minutely..Anybody know how can I have the volume buttons on my laptop change the "pcm" channel volume rather than "master"? If they could control pcm, then I could adjust the volume coming out of my headphones or my computer speaker (both controlled by pcm, but not master...seems strange to me) with just one click.I tried to find this info online, but all results seem to refer to an older version. The simple "click here, set this" solution no longer is possible.

Debian Squeeze 6.0.0 on a Thinkpad T43, sound volume is not synchronized between the laptop volume buttons and GNOME's Volume Applet. So if I turn the volume all the way down with the physical buttons, the volume applet may still indicate 75%.I did not have this problem in Debian Lenny. Pressing the volume buttons used to show a volume bar on the screen, as did pressing the mute button.

I bought a Toshiba Nb205 laptop with a Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) inside. After I first got it I installed Ubuntu onto it, and that's where the problems started. After everything was installed I noticed that my sound doesn't work. So I looked everywhere. I tried so many solutions offered on these forums including messing around with Alsamixer and nothing seemed to be working. Then one day I luckily stumbled upon this website that directed me here: [URL] So I went there and picked the Linux 2.6(X86)(DEB) from the drop down list and installed it. I rebooted my machine, and I now had sound.

However, the only problem is that I can't control the volume of the sound. When I play something, it stays at one volume and one volume only. Nothing on sound preferences will work. The only way I can raise or lower the volume is if I do it in the application that I run, like if I am playing a ..... video, I have to use their volume control to control the volume. My master volume won't work at all.

For a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)

My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?

I recently updated my computer Using 9.10 and I updated on the 14th. Before the update my sound was working great. No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.

I am using the HP DV2810 US notebook PC. With this being listed as the audio device.

I will also list the updates from my synaptic history. I'm having to use Win7 . And i only wanted that for the few games that one run well in wine.

I'm on 10.10 Everytime I start my iMac, the volume in alsamixer is reset to zero. It takes 8 seconds to fix, but I'd rather not have to do this every time I boot up. Anyone know how to fix this?

Every time I boot into my laptop, there is no sound. Going to alsamixer in a terminal shows that the "Speaker" volume is constantly getting reset to 0, and bringing it back up fixes the problem. How can I get Alsa to remember to keep the speaker volume above 0?

I have 5.1-speaker set, confed succesfully with alsa. alsamixer -c 0 -command shows volume of all the speakers I want to set up. My problem is, when I have alsamixer open and change main volume from gnome-panel (it's called pavucontrol for me, pulseaudio?) it "resets" all speakers to max (100%). Only master volume changes like planned. For example, if I have front speakers set to 50%, center to 75%, surround to 100%, subwoofer to 40%, when changing volume from gnome's panel it only changes master volume, and puts every other speaker to max. How to prevent this? Do you have any clue? I had not any problems with this in openSUSE 11.1. Alt+F2 not working with Emerald decorator Screens go black after 10 minutes or so in openSUSE 11.2

Just switched my laptop from that other operating system to openSUSE11.2. Everything works great except for one odd little bug. Both my speakers and headphones have output, are affected by the volume control and it even detects when I plug in headphones and stops output to the speakers. However the moment I adjust the volume, output to my headphones stops, and my speakers start.

so i just got a nice hp keyboard from my dad (very slim) to use with my laptop and external monitor. it has a volume up key, a volume down key, and a mute key. the only problem is, the computer thinks they are actually letter keys. whenever i press volume up, it thinks i hit "b" and types that on the screen. the same goes for the other two buttons. is there anyway i can get them to function normally? everything else works.

Debian :: Configure Volume Buttons Without Pulseaudio

I disabled pulse audio in favor of just working with jack, alsa_in & alsa_out and everything works pretty well except for one thing.

When I enable pulseaudio I can control the volume with my multimedia keys, volume up, volume down, mute.

If I kill pulseaudio not only do I not have volume controls but the little widget in the top bar seems to be broken.

I looked in my /etc/acpi/ folder and see these files relating to volume

nothing comes up for those keys, the terminal cursor just blinks.

also one more thing, those keys are set to shortcuts in the settings->keyboard->shortcut menu.

I can control my device with the amixer so I would like to just bind amixers functions to the keys but I don't really know how to go about doing that.

How can I bind amixers commands with those keys?

I thought the message received sound was too quiet in Empathy 2.32.0.1 and figured out that it was playing the file located here:[URL]...I replaced this file with a more suitable sound file but I have since noticed that the sound is only playing through my right speaker. I don't know if this was happening from the start or if I caused it by changing the sound file.

Playing the sound file manually proves there's no issue with the file as it plays correctly, through both speakers. I have no other sound issues.

My problem is that I can only get audio from this speaker, when I plug something into the rear jack stick, the sound still comes out of the internal speaker. Just completed a dual boot of win7 and jaunty today and all went well. Only problem is when I connect my mikomi headphones the audio comes through both the headphones and the speakers. So, I've got an Acer 5742G, and the silly thing is only built with one internal speaker. Ubuntu thinks it's my left channel, however Windows 7 'gets it' and plays both channels to that speaker.When I plug in external speakers or headphones, everything works fine.

i have a 5.1 setup ...

in fedora 10 things were pretty simpler . all i had to do was double click the volume icon and i could change the volume of each of my speakers individually ...

in fedora 11 that was not possible , this adjustment of volume had become more complicated, however there was this "advanced volume control" or something ... i dont quite remember its name , but thanks to that i could still adjust volume of each of my speakers individually ...

in fedora 12 i m not able to find that application - "advanced volume control" ... how do i adjust the volume of my each of my 5.1 speakers in fedora 12 ?
