Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless 802.11n Card That Works Out Of Box For 9.04 / Jaunty?

Jul 4, 2010

I have found a few older threads that have asked a similar question, but wonder if updates and new devices have improved the situation:

Is there a PCI (not express) 802.11n adapter that will work with 9.04/Jaunty "out of the box"?

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom BCM4312 Dell Studio - Built In Wireless Card - 'disabled' And No Longer Works

Jun 10, 2010

I recently installed Ubuntu x64 on my dell studio 1535 using the windows installer (wubi).

All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.

The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g

I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?

The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.

Slackware :: Good Wireless Card That Works With System Out Of Box?

Mar 7, 2011

I have an older laptop (Dell Inspiron 4100) on which I have installed a minimal Slackware system, and have just managed to get wireless working by using a Linksys Wireless-G card (WPC54GS) and installing the b43 packages from the SlackBuilds site.

Unfortunately, I am experiencing system freezes ... and if my Google searches are correct, these are related to the firmware driver (b43 stuff).

I wonder if anyone can recommend a good wireless card that works with Slackware out of the box ?

Ubuntu Networking :: Gigabit Card Only Works On 100 MBit

Apr 14, 2010

I have bought two Asus NX1101 gigabit cards for my kubuntu box and ubuntu server box. The cards are automatically detected as eth1. However the speed is set to 100mbit instead of 1gbit.

ifconfig eth1 .....
capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list rom ethernet physical tp mii 10bt 10bt-fd 100bt 100bt-fd autonegotiation
configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=Sundance Technology IPG Triple-Speed Ethernet duplex=full ip=130.89.169.33 latency=64 maxlatency=10 mingnt=80 multicast=yes port=MII speed=100MB/s
resources: irq:17 ioport:ec00(size=256) memory:f7d00000-f7d000ff memory:f7c00000-f7c0ffff(prefetchable)

I noticed that both lshw and ethtool claim that the card does not support 1000mbit. So changing the speed manually with ethtool doesn't work. In windows XP the card works as it should.

Fedora Networking :: WMP54G PCI Card Works With FC9 But Not After Upgrade

Jan 24, 2009

I have a now pretty old PC, I think it is 400 Mhz Pentium II, on which I installed a Linksys WMP54G 802.11g PCI card, and on which I wanted to run Fedora 10, but I can't get the wlan card working. As I had a vague memory of having it seen working before, I reverted to Fedora 9, and it worked, at least before I made an update of it. So I took a closer look at it, and besides finding out that there is nothing wrong with my PC and the WLAN card, I also found some oddities. My feeling is that the configuration settings in Network Configuration window seems a bit unrelated to the behavior of the system. Here is a summary of what I found:

1) The WMP54G/RaLink does neither work rightly after installation of Fedora-10-i386, and nor after updating it.
2) The WMP54G/RaLink device worked rightly after installation of Fedora-9-i386, but not after updating it.
3) It seems strange to me that there is no wlan0 entry in the Network Configuration window, neither for fc9 nor for fc10. (There is an eth0 entry though.) It feels even stranger that the systems connects anyway over wireless, even though there is no wlan0 entry, both for fc9 and fc10.
4) After having manually added wlan0 in Network Configuration window, it seems strange to me that the system tries to connect via wlan0, e.g. after a restart and login even though nothing is checked in the Wireless Device Configuration window for wlan0. (I believe this oddity is valid for eth0 too).
5) For Fedora 10, I get prompted to save the network configuration even in the case nothing has been changed.

Fedora Networking :: F9 And RT2500 - Card Works But No IP Address

Mar 30, 2009

I have an auxillary laptop that I use with Fedora 9 on it. Up until now, I have been using wireless just fine with a an old Marvell card. A friend needed a wireless card, so I gave it to her because I had a spare Belkin card (PCMIA) with a RT2500 chipset. This chipset has been supported in Fedora for a long time, and it does it fact work but it will not obtain an IP address and disconnects from the Network Manager upon every attempt to connect.. I get an error that says "set bit rate" failed and I cannot get assigned an IP address from my router.

I do not use encryption. Nothing I have tried with sysconfig-network has had any affect.

iwlist scan finds the router just fine with a good signal, but will not connect.

Networking :: Broadcom Card Works But Sensitivity Reduced?

Feb 28, 2010

I have a Broadcom based PCMCIA wifi card that works great on an older kernel in Debian after a friend of mine did the fwcutter business.

I just installed Backtrack 4 release version on another laptop. While this card works right out of the box the sensitivity is greatly reduced. The built in wifi card (Intel chipset) can see twice as many APs at any given time.

Now, I know that Broadcom chipsets are not the best but this card normally has fantastic sensitivity and Tx power plus an external antenna connector so I really need to get it working properly. When it's working properly under Linux or Windows it blows the competition away.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: TV Card Fails To Work After Upgrade From Jaunty

Oct 30, 2010

I upgraded fro Jaunty to Karmic and then to Lucid and my TV card has stopped working. I had been informed that this was a result of the splitting of the linux-firmware into two separate packages, but having installed the linux-firmware-nonfree package the problem persists. The card is a Hauppauge WinTV PCI and although it is properly recognised by commands like lsmod, lspci and in the sound card settings, I can't tune in a single channel. It worked out of the box in Jaunty. Is there anything else that needs to be done to get the nonfree firmware working properly?

I even added mode 1280x800 in the Section "Screen" of xorg.conf but it was ignored.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Ubuntu Networking :: Tenda W322P Wireless Card Crashing Wireless Router On Connect

Jun 30, 2011

I installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.

Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 - Broadcom Wireless Never Works

Apr 30, 2010

I've got a Dell Inspiron mini 10 that has the Broadcom 4322 wireless chipset in it. I have NEVER got this thing to work satisfactorily despite the numerous tutorials online about getting this damned card to work. I thought everything would finally be fixed with 10.04 but no luck at all. I've tried the b43 diver (which isn't supposed to support the 4322) with no luck.

I also tried the restricted STA driver, which seems like it will work as it identifies networks and even connects to them! However, the speed is excruciatingly slow and connections drop like flies. This netbook is actually a friends that I convinced to let me put Ubuntu on and have them try it out, but they are most surely not going to be impressed if the wireless never works.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Only Works On Certain Networks

Oct 11, 2010

I have a pretty beat-up laptop, on which the inbuilt wireless doesn't work, and so I now have an ASUS WL-167g, which is acting up!It almost always connects to the required networks without an issue, but then once I'm connected it's REALLY slow on some of them! For example, while I'm at school, it works flawlessly! And at a couple of friends' houses, it works too! however, at home, and at a couple of other places, despite the fact that it connects, its so slow, that google takes like 5 mins to load and searching for anything on google leads it to time out!! This happens whether I'm right next to the router (full signal strength) or 2 floors up (at like 3 bars strength)!

It's getting pretty frustrating to have to swap my lan cable between my desktop and laptop constantly, and also to not be able to use my laptop away from my desk!Does anyone know what might be going on??Also, while i have you guys here! I have another problem -- with the inbuilt card.. Initially, it wouldn't work at all.. but more recently, it has started to function (it connects and works on my home network fine) the only problem is that about 10 mins after I turn the wireless switch on on my laptop, it hangs! (EVERYTIME) (if it's relevant, my laptop is a SONY VAIO VGN-S46GP). Again, any input would be appreciated!!
