Empathy used to work perfectly, it would connect to my account well. Now, for some reason, it just stays connecting with the little rolling circle thing next to the status. My account works on Pidgin though.. What could this be?

Im trying to set empathy up with my msn account. I have added the account but it just seems to lag and take a very long time to do nothing! I haven't been able to connect to my msn account yet. Can someone walk me through how to set up my account?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm am successfully adding my gmail account to both empathy and pidgin (it shows up in green that i'm 'available' on my computer). However, I am unable to send or receive any messages. On empathy it just says there was a network error - unknown, and pidgin say there is an xmpp message error code 404.
I've been trying for months to get IM working with my gmail account.
I tried linking my MSN account to Empathy Messenger for the first time - all went well But.I went to my friends house the next day and he told me that my MSN account status on his Windows PC MSN was continuously logging in and out. My computer had been switched off all morning and only used the night before. I went home logged on to Ubuntu 10.10 Empathy and I was logged off - I logged on and then logged off and rang my friend he told me that My status was now showing "That I was away"
I have dual boot system (xp) I went and changed my MSN password and question- should I be concerned is this a known software glitch/ security issue?
Set aMSN to chat account in main menu instead of empathy.
Is it possible? To integrate aMSN into the key communication menu that is. aMSN is superior to empathy for one clear reason, file transfers work!
I just recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and I am trying to connect to IRC (freenode) using Empathy. When I try to add a new account, IRC does not show up in the list of "kind of chat account". I'll attach a screenshot of what I see. I have the telepathy-idle package installed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to Maverick and as the Me menu works with Empathy I started to use it as my default IM client.
But no matter what I do, it won't show my picture.
I tried resizing the picture to 96x96, I tried to convert it from jpg to png. I tried uninstalling the program with apt-get remove --purge. I tried also removing the ~/config/Empathy directory and all others related to the program and then reinstalling it but nothing seems to work.

Neither pidgin, aMSN, nor empathy will connect to my hotmail account, pidgin connects to xfire and gmail fine, but not to my hotmail, so i have to use ebuddy, which i don't like. The weird thing is that for a period of time it won't connect, then it works again (aMSN and empathy too) and after a while it'll stop working again. Also my buddies in hotmail usually see me offline, even though my status is set to online.
aMSN gives me: "error connecting to server" pidgin gives me: "Connection error from Notification server: Reading error"
I've problems to connect my empathy trough my office proxy. I already configure my amsn to access to my hotmail account and it works but when I try to use empathy it just doesn't connect.
View 2 Replies View Relatedjust did a clean install and update to Maverick, and found that empathy won't connect without internet connection managed by networkmanager (I'm using wvdial to connect to the internet since networkmanager doesn't recognize my modem). it keeps saying 'Offline -- No Network Connection' unless I deactivate and reactivate the account. It's kinda annoying.
for Lucid, there is a simple fix for this condition, [URL]... but now, there is no entry for empathy in gconf-editor after I did the Maverick fresh install.
is there anybody have the same problem and know the solution? I can just install pidgin, but I think it is better to not having redundant apps installed.
As of today I am unable to connect to Yahoo messenger in either Empathy or Pidgin. Empathy gives its generic "network error" and Pidgin says the account is disabled, and fails to connect when I click "re-enable." I've checked the obvious things such as username and password. I was able to connect through the web messenger so my credentials are good. Also tried swapping the server with the IP address and changing the character encoding as recommended here.

it shows "connecting..." n continues to show this for a long time untill it finally show that its unable to connect.
The default chat client in Ubuntu 10.04, Empathy, doesn't seem to have any affect in what my actual gmail status displays - I can change the status to be available, busy, or away, and change the custom message to be absolutely anything, but when I log into my Gmail account the status isn't changed whatsoever like it would have it I was using Google Talk in Windows. Also, in the notifications area in the top right, the "Me Menu's" available and busy icons don't have any affect either. If I click the available, busy, or away icon in Empathy or the Me Menu, the respective other will change to be the same, so something's happening, but not on my Gmail account.

The steps I took were the simplest ones: Edit > Accounts Add...Protocol: IRC Network: FreeNode Nickname: pedrosanta Real Name: Pedro Santa Start session This is very, very strange. Anyone got this too? Can you shed me some light on what's happening or how can figure that out? FYI, I'm using the Portuguese version.

It seems strange as i have skype working perfectly on my system, and can use the video option in it without any problem, so it cant be that my webcam isnt recognized. does anyone know how i can get my webcam working in either or both of these instant messengering services.
View 1 Replies View Relatedssh works fine on root but when i log into my other account, the ssh doesn't work, it just times out when i putty it. I used this to try and start it from terminal in my reg acc, and then as the su.
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start
After that didn't work i did this
sudo apt-get remove openssh-server
sudo apt-get install openssh-server
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start
and still nothing. I have no clue why it only works on root and no other accounts.
I just added the ppa for gwibber stable and I installed the Gwibber 3.0.0.1 because the default gwibber on ubuntu 10.4.2 LTS doesn't let me add twitter account. Now, after launching the application,
View 6 Replies View Relatedi have a large data file for gnucash of several years in age. when i did the upgrade, gnucash starts and loads, and the main account appears to load, but there is nothing displayed. just an empty gray space where the alternating colors of the ledger should be.the account listing loads, and i can view other smaller accounts just fine. but the main ledger does not display. however, if i click on some areas of the screen, it will display what i assume is the underlying text in the bottom status bar.
and when a window or some other graphic element 'over writes' any area, some remnants of the former image remain.
