Ubuntu Networking :: LAN Connection Doesn't Connect

Aug 12, 2010

Just installed 10.04 on a Toshiba Portege laptop. Everything works fine except the LAN connection. Just doesn't connect. Based on what I know everything is on and enabled but no luck. The wireless works fin but can't connect to the network in my office through the standard cable. Installed the same operating system on a newer Toshiba (the second is my but the older one is a friends) and no issues at all. Wondering if it is a driver issue but can't figure it out. Am relatively new to Ubuntu but so far have found it easy to troubleshoot just reading posts and just trying out **** until it works. But this I've hit a brick wall.

Also ran in to a similar issue my work pc, except I had been working with it fine with 10.04 until I did a security update and puff... no more network. The eth1 connection is enabled and set to automatic but just can't connect to it. Sorry if I'm not providing enough info, just tell me if there is anything you need to know first and I'll post it.

Fedora Networking :: Networking - Connect To The Internet Using BSNL Broadband Connection

Mar 6, 2010

I have installed fedora 12 recently. after installation i tried to connect to the internet using BSNL broadband connection. I filled in the details such as IP, Netmask, Gateway and even DNS servers. In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.

There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.

Everytime I try to connect it will ask for the WEP so I put it in, it tries connecting then ask for the WEP again then repeats over and over....does 10.10 not like WEP connections? I don't know what to do.

Ubuntu Networking :: DSL Connection Won't Connect After Upgrade To 11.04?

Apr 29, 2011

Just updated to 11.04 Natty Narwhal on my Dell Inspiron 1501 this morning and I bumped into a problem. The DSL connection I used to connect to before the update doesn't work anymore. When I was running 10.10 I had this DSL connection set up via Network Manager (right-click on the network notification area=>edit connection=>add new, using PPPoE method and user name and pass from the ISP). Now I still get the AutoEth1 connection that is created (automatically), but when I try to connect to the DSL connection, it just doesn't connect. I tried deleting the connection and creating a new one, then rebooting, but still cannot connect. Another problem is that first time I ran 11.04, after beeing prompted to reboot at the end of the upgrade, I had my wireless on and while I was trying to get the DSL connection to work I switched it off (Fn+F2). Now if I try to turn it on again, it won't start. The network manager applet is looking also different now, wheter I left-click or right-click on it is the same (used to be different in previous releases), and this makes me even more confused.

I know I probably shouldn't have rushed into upgrading without getting aquainted with the changes and the possible issues, but to be honest I wouldn't want to downgrade now to 10.10 (unity looks kind of interesting and I am looking forward to see it improved in the future) and I really need to fix this DSL connection problem on my laptop (using my desktop now)

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Connection Doesn't Work / Get That?

Sep 18, 2010

I recently tried out OpenDNS on my wired connection, however after it was slower than faster, I tried going back to the original settings that the connection had (so basically to Automatic DHCP).

For some reason the connection wouldn't connect again. So I thought I'd try deleting that connection and creating a new one, but this still doesn't work. When I try to connect using NetworkManager it just does the 'loading' icon for 30ish seconds then says disconnected.

My wireless still works fine however.

I'd very grateful as i'm worried i've messed up the ethernet port and I need it for when I got University in a couple of weeks

Networking :: Networking Script Doesn't Allow Local Machines To Connect To Each Other?

Jan 21, 2009

I wanted to be able to have separate NICs with separate IPs connecting to separate gateways on a machine so I could put an ftpd on each one. I tried binding an ftpd to each, and running separate instances of the ftpd. I tried virtual hosts.

NOTHING worked. I could either use one ftpd or the other. I could either connect via ssh on one IP or the other. the second I turned one NIC off stuff would work again. I messed with basic iproute commands, andnothng worked until I got this script to run, which allowed me to use each NIC independant of the other.

Code:
#!/bin/sh
#ip route flush all
ip route del default dev eth1
ip route del default dev eth0
ip route del table 1
ip route add table 1 to default via 10.10.10.1 dev eth1
code....

But now, samba client doesn't work. cifs mounting doesn't work either. It can't connect.

BEFORE I ran that script, I could connect via ssh, or to the ftpd running on the machine using a LOCAL IP - 10.10.10.2. AFTER, I have to use the external IP, or I cannot connect. I know that has something to do with it, but I do not have the advanced linux routing knowledge to redo the script or come up with a solution.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi - Set Up The Wireless Connection Using WPA But Could Not Connect

Mar 19, 2010

Using an old (5 year) laptop with XP loaded I installed wubi to save altering partitions etc. It all downloaded fine and connected to the internet by wire. I set up the wireless connection using WPA but could not connect. The wirelsss card does see my network and others. After lurking around the forum and trying various things I found that I could connect without encryption. The more I read the more I became confused.
Anyway what I could glean about my Wireless Card it is a Intersil Prism2 mini usb adapter - but also shows up as an Acer ?? Warplink 802.11.

Using lshw I found this reference to wireless

I became even more confused and got a bit lost using the various codes in the terminal and looking up things about drivers etc but would like to persist.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Shows Connection But Doesn't Work

Jun 7, 2010

I just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.

Ubuntu Networking :: Windows Doesn't Connect To The Ethernet Either

Aug 8, 2010

I wanted to test 10.04 and downloaded Wubi to do so. Normal setup, it automatically picked the 64-bit version. After booting into Wubi, installing my ATI drivers and restarting it did no longer connect to my ethernet. A few reboots didn't help so I went back to Windows for troubleshooting.

However now Windows doesn't connect to the ethernet either. It's plain dead, Windows doesn't find any connections and the modem doesn't light the Ethernet cable LED. The modem itself works fine with wireless devices. I have now tried everything including uninstalling Ubuntu, system restore, driver rollback, driver update, BIOS default settings, a different cable, a different modem etc.

This is a 64-bit specific issue because I tested the 32-bit version of Wubi 10.04 a few months ago without problems.

Windows 7 x64
Wubi 10.04 x64
Gigabyte P55-UD3 with onboard Realtek RTL8111D LAN.

I'd like to get out of this without Ubuntu effectively having broken my hardware and my trust in it.
