Ubuntu :: Get The Latest 10.10 .iso File?
Jun 26, 2011
Where can I download the latest 32-bit Ubuntu 10.10 .iso file that has all the updates already? I want to burn a DVD that I do not have to download a lot of updates for. I cannot tell which .iso files are more recent than others. I just upgraded from 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 and I like the improvements I see so far.

If I go to the website and download the ISO file is it the exact same one that was released in April or will it contain the latest patches (e.g. security fixes, etc) that have been release since then? If it doesn't I suppose I'll have to download the entire ISO file, install the OS, and then have another couple hundred MB to download which is not what I'd prefer.

I have Alienvault (which is debian based) running on an offline network. I need to have a repo server on that network in order to provide updates/other installation sources. Currently I have configured Ubuntu Server 10.04 as an apt-mirror on an internet-connected network.
What I need to do is find a way to automatically take the newest updates, and export them to disk. I need to mirror the internet-connected-repo server on the offline-network side. But I don't want to burn all 40 gigs or so every time new updates come out. Basically, I'd like to perform incremental backups of the mirror after the first full backup. Is it possible to automate this daily?

I want to write a script. I have the basic form working... but I would like to add some advanced features. I have a list of .zip files that have a version number in the filename (i.e. sudoku-134.zip, sudoku-176.zip, sudoku-203.zip, etc). I would like to have a script that will find the latest version of each game, and unzip it. I want the next to latest version left untouched. But anything older, I would like the unzipped folder deleted (But leave the .zip file)
Here's what I have so far:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
cd /var/www/vhosts/server.com/httpsdocs/games/$1
for file in `ls *.zip`; do
if [ -d ${file%.*} ]; then
echo
else
mkdir ${file%.*}
cd ${file%.*}
unzip ../$file > /dev/null
cd ..
echo 'date' $file >> /var/www/vhosts/games4roku.com/private/$1.log
fi
done
I can call the script with "game-unzip public" to unzip all the public games.
Here's my files:
Code:
sudoku-134.zip
sudoku-134/
sudoku-176.zip
sudoku-176/
When I add the latest version, sudoku-203.zip, I want it to unzip it to ./sudoku-203/ and rm -rf sudoku-134

About a couple of days ago I'm sure I saw that Open Office was offering a DVD file download of their latest version. It was including versions for Win. Mac and Linux all on the one DVD. Now, after buying a DVD burner for my 'puter, I have been unable to find that information again.

I recently installed Kubuntu 9.10 (I think, the latest anyway) on my gf's computer. Everything works great, except for the sound output. The volume control works, (both the buttons on the computer and inside Kubuntu) but there is no sound output whatsoever (not in vlc, system sound etc). Ive googled a little, and I've seen some tips about get it, right click in on sound settings in the panel, and choosing preferences, I don't seem to have that tab, however I've got a "show mixer window" where I the can adjust volume.
I've got 2 tabs here ; 'HDA ATI SB' and 'HDA ATI HDMI' I guess the first one is the one that is the ordinary output, the other if I connect a tv or something. I've also read something about 'alsa' and 'alsamix' I don't seem to have that one, and I've tried sudo apt- but I've haven't been able to find it. I dont know if it is of any importance, but it is the 64bit version of Kubuntu. I'm not sure about exactly what soundcard and driver I've got, but the computer (laptop) is a pretty new HP, and when I run:
Code:
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#*| grep Codec
I get the answer
Code:
Codec : IDT 92HD75B3X5

I'm just curious if this link:[URL}which downloads it in tar form has the most recent version of dvb-apps.I recently noticed a sudo apt-get install dvb-apps option, and from what it sounds like, it's a much older version. Can anybody confirm this?The other thing though is when I successfully install the tar package, why if I try sudo apt-get install dvb-apps is it wanting to install it, as if the tar was never installed?

I'm still running 9.10 (Karmic) on my main box and I'm trying to find a newer version of VLC. But almost all the recent blog posts re VLC 1.1.4 point to PPAs that only support Lucid and/or Maverick.The version of VLC in the Ubuntu depositories is 1.0.2 which is not only old but has a security leak; the VLC homepage warns against using it!
I suspect the problem here is that VLC is in the middle of rolling-out hardware acceleration and there's a bunch of different versions of it now (with and without the new VA-API enabled ffmpeg). So it's a moving target. But surely there's a better alternative for Karmic users than just 1.0.2?The best I've been able to come up with is the 'Nvidia Cutting Edge Multimedia' PPA which has VLC 1.1.0ppa:nvidia-vdpau/cutting-edge-multimedia
